I collect books by Maurice Sendak, so purchase The Jester because Sendak wrote a forward. I didn't know the story of the author, and his sad, early death. I found the story quite uplifting and touching. The drawings are charming, even if not the calibre of Sendak or Lobel, but they are colorful and appealing. The moral of the story is a simple one, but well stated.

This book has a great message: that it is up to each person to decide how they will respond to life's ups and downs. The author's own story is inspirational, too, adding depth to the children's story.

Although the age group for this book is 6-9 years of age I read it to my 2 year old who absolutely loves it! She asks for and is constantly bringing it to me or my husband to read. It is a treat to read.

This is a must have book for kids and adults. Although you'll find it in the children's section, it really belongs in self-help! I highly recommend it to all my friends.

This is a touching allegory for Everyman: the idea that we each carry our own happiness and the responsibility for our own happiness with us wherever we go. Third graders will appreciate the humor and can begin to understand the message. The story is somewhat long for younger grades---my first grade class had a hard time sitting still. My own 9- and 11-year old children loved it.
