The Last Caddy
Frank Carter felt bitter as he took in the beauty of Potash
Country Club from his seat outside the pro shop. He hadn't
always been like this. As a boy, he remembers the excitement he
felt when he set foot on the grounds for his first job: a caddy.

Back then he knew every golfer of the club--the finest
players, the struggling hackers, the cheaters and drunks--
caddying for each of them at one time or another. Now some
fifty years later, the popular use of golf carts has made the
demand for his services obsolete; but he still sits in his spot
outside the pro shop waiting for the odd caddy job.

This explains why, when young Tommy Wilson started
hanging around, Frank began reminiscing and sharing club
stories of a bygone era. Through the telling of his humorous and
sometimes poignant stories, Frank relives the joy of life that
he had growing up and Tommy learns more than he ever
imagined about this small-town New Hampshire country club.
