"The Leaf and the Water" is an epic of addiction, desperate, youthful love and the final catharsis and coming-of-age, set to poetry at once blistering in its intensity and profoundly moving in its meditative stillness. The entire poem, divided into four parts, represents a medley of leitmotifs, centering around the titular Leaf and Water, to explore the depths of the author's psyche and, in the exploration, provide a catharsis allowing for the personal transformation of the author and the reader.
