The Muted Muse: A Poetry Collection
What do you write about when words won't come easy?

The Muted Muse explores the space between the creative urge and writer's block. In her first standalone chapbook of poetry, Jocelyne Smallian-Khan quiets the "lizard brain" of self-doubt, rejecting imposter syndrome, and facing the void of the blank page head on.

This little collection offers a variety of poetic forms to enjoy: short poems; haiku, free verse, humorous poems, confessional poetry, and declarations of self-deprecation and self-affirmation.

About the Author

The pandemic lockdown and an online poetry workshop helped Jocelyne Smallian-Khan re-ignite an old pastime of playing around with words purely for creative enjoyment. After 30 years of spending her writing time on decidedly less artistic pieces such as essays, business cases, briefing notes, strategic plans, Treasury Board submissions, Memoranda to Cabinet, and other works of mundanity, she has rediscovered a joy in writing poetry. The Muted Muse is her first standalone collection of published poems.
