I don't mind a time travel book. Usually I enjoy them. And in this one the time travel wasn't the problem. Esmeralda was. She was conniving, two faced, dense, dishonorable and dumb. Because the Brands in 1881 were bad people she assumed the Brands in 1999 are bad also in spite of mountains of evidence to the contrary. Esmeralda's plan is to seduce Elliott, get pregnant so he will marry her, divorce him and get part of the ranch as community property. When Elliot DOES wants to marry her and says so in front of his entire family she yells at him and turns him down. When Elliot is injured she admits exactly what she had planned to do, that she lied and schemed but she couldn't go through with it because he is the sweetest man she's ever known. 15 pages later she tells him that she changed her mind because she's too decent of a woman and that he deserved far worse than what she tried to do to him. Esmeralda thinks, 'First he told her didn't expect sex as a payment, and then he made love to her anyway.' Apparently she hasn't caught on that having sex and making love are two different things Also have these Brands never heard of 'safe sex' or 'birth control'? I've never given a book in the Brand series such a low rating and considering how many books were in this series I suppose one had to be bad.

I did not enjoy this one. I reached a point where I skimmed just to finish it.

This is weird and wonderful - Shayne's paranormal habits peeking through in her cowboy series. Esmerelda adjusts too easily but the family break is really strong and well-depicted. Of course the premise is just silly - backtime doubles, and just who are the current lot descended from? But suspend disbelief on that and the rest is good.

I did not like it as much as the other books of the series, not much to keep you going, not like others when I couldn't put it down, going to read the next book in sieges

I'm at chapter 5 and I can't decide if I want to finish this one or not. Time travel...really? This book parallels Wes's story as far as incorporating sci-fi/fantasy into the plot but this one (so far) is far less believable/engaging. I expected Elliot's story to be so much fun and filled with young love, so this to me is ridiculous. I really wanted to like this series - I was looking for some tough Texas cowboys in a tight-knit family in realistic situations. I'm really trying to want to finish this book because I like the youngest of the Brands so much. Much to my dismay, I'm becoming less and less of a Maggie Shayne fan and that makes me sad.

This is the best of the series. Maggie Shayne has a way of drawing the reader into the storyline so we really get to know these characters. The family dynamics are awesome! I would LOVE to meet this family!
