She can’t trust him…or her desire for him.
Marnie Ducello is way past second chances. Most days she’s fighting to forget the past and stay sober—a combination she doesn’t always pull off. She’s done waiting for Prince Charming. So when a sexy stranger turns out to be an arrogant, cab-stealing jerk, Marnie isn’t surprised. If only her rash reaction to his rudeness hadn’t resulted in her arrest…
Singer Danny Roland is no prince. He has fame, fortune, and a not-so-hidden addiction. He’s running from memories of the lives he’s ruined. Keeping his personal demons under control and out of the tabloids is what Danny wants more than anything. After a simple drug deal goes very wrong, Danny decides to make karmic amends—by finding the woman he abandoned to the police. Marnie’s a recovering addict, too, so he offers her the deal of a lifetime: a job as his personal assistant and a safe space in his home to live in if she stays sober.
Marnie is soon swept up into Danny’s world of prying paparazzi and vengeful exes. She can’t help the burning attraction between them, but she can’t trust Danny—or herself. And when Danny’s brother begins to pursue her, Marnie and Danny must both come to terms with the painful secrets that haunt them. They’re both broken…but maybe together they can be unbreakable.

Drama filled story. I really was not expecting this to be so focused on drug addiction, the consequences, temptations and the struggle to not always be an addict. Prince should have it going on considering his status, Marnie's "career" keeps her addiction supplied, they are different but yet fight the same battle. I just wish there had been more happy moments to outweigh their struggle but this took a more dark turn instead which made me not be able to connect with either character. Their "happy" ending was even clouded with doubt and negativity. I was provided a copy by Hidden Gems.
Danny was thinking of Mickee his dog and making sure he got picked up from the kennel he had been in while the movie was made. Robert had argued with Danny about the movie but Danny wouldn’t be swayed. Danny was successful in the role. Robert was Danny's publisher and he was great at his job but Danny didn’t like how nosy Robert could be. Danny needed a cab there were two but the girl with the violet eyes grabbed the door but Danny took the door from her she took a can of soda and sprayed Danny and the cab seat. The girl was arrested and Robert told Danny to get out of there. But Danny told his bodyguard Kevor to find out who the girl was and where she lived. Marnie was released and went to her meeting she had to talk to Sybil who was her sponsor but Sybil wasn’t at the meeting. She couldn’t lose Sybil as Sybil was her lifeline. Marnie wasn’t gay and didn’t know Sybil was and had innocently kissed Sybil on the cheek. Danny was an addict who had been a player. And ruined lives with his self centerness. But Danny is trying to redeem himself and make amends to a young woman he had once abandoned.Marnie is a recovering addict but looking for love. Danny offers Marnie a job as his personal assistant and she accepts. Danny struggles with his addiction and enabling behavior. But Danny was trying to start a different kind of relationship. Danny is famous and rich but that doesn't change his addiction. Marnie is trying to deal with her past and stay off the streets and looking for men to earn money. Then Danny finds he wants Marnie and she wants him but….. I just couldn’t get into this story I tried but it just wasn’t realistic to me Marnie would stay away from Danny if he was still using that is one of the biggest rules to easy to get pulled back in. I just tried a couple times and didn’t hold my interest. I was disappointed in this story.
Marnie and Danny's story is an emotional journey that explores the pain and suffering of drug addiction. Danny seems to have it all but in reality fame and fortune are no protection. Marnie is at her wit's end. She realizes that we all deserve a second chance and that help ican make make them both stronger. I cared for these two damaged characters. Their struggles touched me. I wanted them to find the peace and strength that they so desperately sought. E. M. Youman has written powerful characters that draw you in and make you care for them. I couldn't stop reading until I learned how it would all end. This author is new to me but I definitely want to read more of her books. I enjoyed The Prince's Plan. Her well drawn plot, strong characters and powerful dialogue are an unbeatable combination.
