The hero is a con man and lies to everybody. The heroine is repressed and is her mother's puppet. Eventually they figure out lying to everyone and not being true to themselves is making them miserable.

I really enjoyed Ash and Evie's story! Neither of them where the person that they appeared to be and together they were able to be the people they were meant to be. Michels does a wonderful job of keeping the reader intrigued and wanting more. I just couldn't put the book down. Very excited to read the next book in the series!

The men chasing Ash and Stapleton was gaining ground but a change of identity would be helpful. That was what Stapleton was working on right now. Ash had spent every day with Stapleton since they had left home seven years ago. Stapleton wasn’t interested in being rich just enough to get through life and he doesn’t keep his opinions to himself. Ash was in this for the great adventure. In Ash’s line of work you learned to keep moving . But Ash had been careless and now he was paying for it . Ash had been working toward his goal since his father had died seven years ago. Ash and Stapleton had two rules- no staying and no getting attached. Evangeline /Evie danced with Lord Winfield and Evie was determined to find a match her family would approve of it didn’t matter who it was. Evie had a talent for dressing for a part and playing it flawlessly - whether it be daughter, sister, cousin, or friend. Being a wife would not be any different. There was a time last season when Evie thought she wanted different but she had wrong. Her mother was right Evie couldn’t be trusted to choose her own future. Evie and her two cousins had become close over the last three years. Victoria and Isabelle's father had unexpectedly inherited his title and estate. Evie had an encounter with Lord Barnish in a dim hall but then he simply disappeared from her and society for a year. Although he now claims to be Lord Crosby. Evie Ash is a liar, seducer, selling schemes and potions. Seven years ago The Green family had taken everything his family had. Ash was determined to get revenge. Evie only talked of the weather and fashion. Evie had a “mad summer” at the age of twelve with her sister where Evie and Sue poisoned their aunt and had paid for it since . Ash couldn't stay if he planned to carry out his revenge. Ash’s current scheme was selling shares in a steam engine. I liked this story but hated Evie’s mother who mentally abused as well as physically abused Evie such as : not letting Evie eat, pinching her, and even making E vie wear gloves that were way too small. I didn’t like all the story lines but did like Evie and Ash. So I had mixed feelings on this story. Some parts I liked but there were actually more things I didn’t. Guess this story just wasn’t really for me.

The Rebel Heir is the second book in the "Spare Heirs" series. During that era, the first born son inherited the family title whereas any subsequent sons didn't have titles unless something happened to the current heir. Hence the Spare Heirs Club. Ashley aka Ash has been working towards getting revenge for the demise of his family. He is currently known as Lord Crosby. He is a con artist who excels at convincing others to part with their money to invest in his so called inventions. He moves from town to town with no intention of settling down but whilst in London he is a member of the Spare Heirs Club. Evangeline aka Evie is doing her debut in London in search of a titled husband amongst the ton. She lives a lie. Everything she does is dictated by her mother and her prospective husband has to be someone worthy of her. In other words her domineering mother's choice. Ash has nearly reached his goal of having his revenge and reinstating his family's wealth. He is attracted to Evie who feels the same about him. There are complications though. He is about to find out that Evie is the daughter of his target. He starts spending time with her and they just happen to relish in each other's company. Ash sets things in motion to promote his new venture but by doing so he risks losing Evie's friendship and affection. Will he take the chance? Ash is also being pursued as a result of one of his con in another town. Things get ugly and take a turn for the worse. Even worse, Evie's mother has found the perfect match for her. Will she go through with the arrangement? I loved reading this novel. There is love and passion in equal measures. It's witty, exciting with quite a few surprises along the way. The presence of some of the characters from the previous book add even more weight to the story. Ash and Evie are both adorable. They are different and yet they are perfect together. The epilogue is the perfect finish to this story but it has left questions about another couple. Another enticing story in the making? I would fully recommend to lovers of historical romance. I received an eARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Rebel Heir was an interesting story about a young man, Lord Ash Crosby seeking revenge to the one who took from his family. During a party he snuck into one of the rooms to steal information. When Evangline recognizes that he was the man she had fallen for a year prior. The story was great, but there were sections that I felt dragged. It was not until the end when the story started to come alive. Toward the end was surprising to me. I recommend this book. Received ebook for a honest review from Netgalley.

Lady Evangeline Green is living a lie. To please her mother, she’s the perfect debutant. When she meets Lord Crosby, he shows her the freedom she’s been missing. Is Evangeline willing to risk everything for true love? Ash is not Lord Crosby. He's a con artist, a noble Spare Heir living off his silver tongue. He needed to realize that the truth is naked, while the lie must wear pants. When the Green family ruined his inheritance, he swore revenge. But, when he met Evangeline, his world turned upside down. Now, caught in a web of lies, will Ash find the truth in the eyes of the one lady who dared match wits with him? This was a very surprising read. At first, it was slow and hard to get into. As I turned the pages, I started getting caught up in the plot, and falling in love with the characters. Ash is the perfect hero, for his family and Evangeline. Everything he did came from his heart. Evangeline thought that being perfect for her mother would somehow make amends for supposed sins. Then, when Ash was in danger, she risked her future to keep him safe. She also acted out of love. I feel the plot was ingeniously written and hope that we hear from Evangeline and Ash in future installments of this series. An Advanced Reading Copy was received in exchange for an honest review.

How can he let himself fall for the daughter of his enemy? Come follow the adventures of Evie and Ash and you will be vastly entertained. This is another book in The Spare Heirs Society series. I did enjoy the novel but I did find it a bit frustrating that unless the reader knows characters from earlier books in the series, it can be quite confusing. Duty or heart, which will win? Ash is a sly one. He's handsome, charming and plays society like a finely tuned instrument. Gliding thru the ranks of the rich and powerful with a hidden agenda and secrets that could avenge his family and destroy the life of not only his intended target, but could also impact an innocent that could prove to be his redemption. Evie is a gazelle in a world of wolves. A disappointment to her family and easily manipulated into situations that are not of her own choosing. But make no mistake, she has some surprises of her own. Neither Ash or Evie are what they portray themselves to be and therein lies the draw of the story. On the surface, all is easily figured out but as the tale digs deeper you discovery the plot is more complicated. The author must love puzzles because she concocted a pattern riddled with cryptic clues that casts a spell of intriguing reveals and surprisingly intricate pieces.
