The basis for the story is good but it was lacking in substance. Nothing exciting happened. There were no ups and downs, only a lot of history about Turkey. It was all one speed from beginning to end. Even the intimate moments between Keenan and Rose were without emotion. I don't even know how they fell in love. I love a good SEAL story, so I'm looking forward to book 2, hoping the story line content will improve. Received a copy via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated for my review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed is my own.

Rose Powell is currently taking her Grannie and her Grannie’s best friends to Turkey to check off some items on their bucket lists. When her brother Jack backs out, she’s peeved to say the least. In his stead, he gets his fellow retired SEAL, Keenan, to fill in for him. As soon as Rose sees Keenan, the attraction causes some of her self-control to slip. Keenan knows that Jack would kill him if he knew what Keenan wanted to do with Rose, but he just can’t resist. Overall I really liked this story and now want to visit Turkey!! This story was quick and kept your interest from start to finish. I loved that Jack was able to find his way home. The only problem I had was that there were a few parts in scenes that just didn’t make a whole lot of sense, but it didn’t really deter from the overall story. I highly recommend and can’t wait to read more from this author. **I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review

DISAPPOINTING: THE SEAL’s SECRET LOVER is the first installment in Anne Calhoun’s contemporary, adult ALPHA OPS romance series. This is logistics director Rose Powell, and Navy SEAL Keenan Parker’s story line. Told from dual third person perspectives (Keenan and Rose) THE SEAL’S SECRET LOVER follows Rose and her grandmother’s (along with the Bucket List Babes) to Turkey and the trip of a lifetime. Rose is the Senior Director-Operations and Logistics for the Field Energy Company and has been wrangled by her grandmother to escort she and the ladies on a two week trip to Turkey. Enter Keenan Parker, their tour guide, Rose’s brother’s fellow Navy SEAL, and the man with whom she will fall in love. Keenan and Rose are immediately attracted to one another, and each night our leading couple will meet up for a night of hot $ex and steamy fun. The insta-lust/love permeates throughout the story but herein lies the problem: there is no heat; no chemistry; no palpable emotional need or energy; Keenan and Rose’s relationship feels more like a duty-a robotic interlude-rather than an all consuming love affair leading to a happily ever after. The Alpha Ops or security company behind Keenan’s current stay in Turkey is barely a blip on the radar. It is never revealed what it is Keenan does or his reasons for remaining behind. I was hoping for some field time with our leading hero but the story line stayed focused on the Bucket List trip and tourist destinations through the ruins and high points of a country not high on too many people’s list of things to do during a Middle East war. THE SEAL’S SECRET LOVER is a quick read but lacks the chemistry between the leading couple for me to be drawn into the story. Sadly, this is not the building romance I was hoping for from a Navy SEAL or an Alpha Ops specialist.

Rose is chaperoning her grandmother and some friends to tour Turkey. When her brother cancels he has a friend and former Navy Seal, Keenan assist in being their tour guide. Knowing they live on opposite sides of the world this can only be a fling. But can they say goodbye? This is a fast paced steamy read. I liked it they characters are nice and the story is entertaining.

Rose agrees to travels with her grandmother and her friends thinking her brother would be there to help guide and as added protection only to have him back out at the last minute. Keenan replaces her brother on their travels through Turkey and upon seeing the group he would be with starts regretting his decision. When Rose meets Keenan for the first time sparks fly just from one look. Keenan tries to remember that she's his best friend's sister and not to get involved with her but it doesn't seem to work. While the group is traveling checking things off their bucket lists there are many bathroom breaks, a minor freak out over internet service issues, and a lot of sexual tension. Rose and Keenan try to keep their budding relationship a secret while they travel neither wanting to think beyond the moment but as the trip winds down and its almost time for the ladies to leave Keenan realizes he wants something more with Rose. This was a great read I read it in one setting. You'll laugh out loud at the grandmother and her friends in this book. I loved the characters and the storyline and would definitely recommend this book to any book lover. I can't wait for more from this author

The Seal’s Secret Lover was a light, sensual romance. Career driven Rose, takes her grandmother and her grandmother’s friends on a tour through Turkey. Rose’s brother Jack was supposed to lead this excursion but when he backs out Rose covers for him. Jack didn’t leave Rose totally hanging, he sends along an SEAL buddy, Keenan. The chemistry between Rose and Keenan is ignitable and flashes hard and fast. If you are looking for a flaming hot romance package in a novella length, The Seal’s Secret Lover would be the perfect book for you. I received this ARC copy of The Seal's Secret Lover from St. Martin's Press in exchange for a honest review. This book is set for publication Feb. 2, 2016. When Rose Powell agreed to take her grandmother and friends on a trip abroad it was with the understanding that her younger brother would be going along to help her out. The idea of wrangling them all on her own was completely overwhelming, but after finding her brother would be their to help out, her mind was eased a little. But then at the last minute her brother changes the plans on her and because he can't make the trip, he recruits a friend to help her hoping it will mend things between them. What he doesn't expect though is that the man he sends to help out his sister ends up being the perfect distraction she needs right now... SEAL Keenan Parker would do anything for his friend Jack, so when Jack asks him to fill in for him on his grandmother's vacation, and help to chaperon the trip with his sister he accepts the mission no questions asked. Jack knows his sister is in good hands, and knows Keenan will take care of her, and promised a long time ago that she was hands off. But after Keenan sees Rose again that promise becomes a lot harder to keep, she is beautiful and has him wanting to cross lines that he knows he shouldn't cross... question is will temptation win out? This short, but oh so sexy, story captured my attention right from the start, it was so addictive and had me flying right through the pages, I ended up devouring this steamy little read in one sitting!! The chemistry between Keenan and Rose burned brightly from start to finish, and inspired some very steamy scenes that had me in dire need of a fan. Definitely one of the hottest reads and I have had the pleasure of reading in quite a while!! Highly recommend this one, it is sure satisfy all your reading needs...and then some!! Overall Rating: 4.5 Rockin’ ★★★★☆ Take one bada$$ ex-Navy SEAL, mix well with a feminist that likes to control everything and a group of geriatric ladies known as the 'Bucket List Babes' and you have the beginning of a fun, sexy read! Anne Calhoun's, The SEAL's Secret Lover is a novella that while short is packed with everything needed to make it an unforgettable read. It is also the first novella in her Alpha Ops series. The book is set in Turkey and is the beginning of Rose and Keenan's start to fulfill their own bucket list of need to do things! Last minute change of plans, lands Rose Powell with her grandmother and two friends on their way to tour Turkey. Her brother was suppose to come with them, but cancelled at the last minute and sent his best friend to guide and protect the ladies. Rose was not prepared for the man sent to take her brother's place and from the first moment their eyes connected, it was game on! She is a woman that needs to control her world and has since the age of seven when the responsibility of her younger brother became her main focus. Climbing the corporate ladder in a male dominated world is not an easy task, but Rose is the woman for the job. Now however, she may need to rethink some of her previous plans about the right man for her! His last mission left him without direction for the first time in his life. Keenan found himself adrift in Istanbul after leaving the Navy. So when his best friend ask him to take care of his sister, grandmother and two of her friends, he agrees to be their driver and guide as they work their way through Turkey. However, when he meets them at the airport, Keenan realizes that there is something about Rose that pulls him and claims him. Never before has he had thoughts of forever with one woman, but that has changed with just one glance. Rose calms him and at the same time the attraction between them is irresistible. If you are looking for a short, intense romance read, look no more. Ms. Calhoun's has written the perfect book for you. This is an excellent addition to my library.

This is a quick, fun, sexy read that is perfect for an afternoon escape. It's the first in a series of novellas that look very promising! In this one Rose Powell finds herself in Turkey after her brother backs out of a trip he has promised their grandmother. Her brother did arrange for a buddy to help them navigate their way around the countryside. Keenan Parker is nothing like what Rose expects and she couldn't be happier. These two definitely enjoy each other as the trip progresses. Keeping their hearts out of it will prove to be difficult though. I definitely recommend this one and look forward to the next in the series.

I am an avowed Anne Calhoun fan. I’ve loved everything she’s written, so when I saw that she was going to be writing a navy SEAL book, and a vacation fling story, I was just dying to get my hands on it. I’m happy to say that just like her other works, this one wows you in ways you wouldn’t expect. Despite its novella length, there is a depth of character to both Rose and Keenan, helped out by the chapters in alternating points of view. Rose’s love for her grandmother is evident in her taking the time to replace her brother as a companion on this historical trip to visit places on her grandmother’s bucket list. She’s obviously a hard working woman who rarely takes any time for herself, under a lot of stress in the high position she has in her company and initially counting on being able to be connected to her team back home with her phone and laptop. Sadly, this isn’t the case for her – but it forces her to step back, and really enjoy this holiday, including making the most of the attraction she has to Keenan. And Keenan, well, he was involved in a mission that went bad, a mission that resulted in some PTSD trauma for everyone involved, including Rose’s brother (who seems to have come out of the experience the most emotionally damaged). He’s adjusting pretty well to civilian life, working in Istanbul as a security expert. But in a way, it’s just an excuse for him to avoid going home and really dealing with the fallout and where his future will take him. Having Rose in his bed is a delightful way to forget his troubles for a while, and with the knowledge between them that this is a vacation only affair, they share some pretty steamy scenes together. Yet Keenan is aware that with Rose, he can actually let down his guard and that she does the same with him, linking them emotionally more than he expected. At the end of their time together, he’s got to make some choices, realizing that if anyone is going to pick up stakes and compromise to keep the relationship going, it’s going to have to be him. I loved how they dealt with the conflict, and even up to the end I really wasn’t sure what was going to happen, though I was delighted with the final outcome. Besides the romance, I really enjoyed the visual descriptions of the setting and the trip across Turkey. The stops along the way at different historical sites were obviously well researched and definitely have given me the urge to learn more about the country. I appreciated the authenticity of those scenes. Also, Rose’s grandmother and her friends were a hoot, fun older ladies who added some great humor to the story and fun dialogue as well. Overall, it was really quite a fun, sexy romance with a happy ending, and some great hints as to what’s to come for other members of Keenan’s team, including Rose’s brother Jack. Can’t wait for the next one! 4.5 stars.
