Although Greider is a master of the English language and a terrific writer, the majority of this book evades the cause of huge sums of public money going to large corporations -- the ability of government to grant favors to some individuals at the expense of others. Furthermore, Greider suggests that we need to loosen the tension between individual freedom and equality, suggesting that equality is somehow more virtuous. The book is a great read for those who enjoy to read books with which they mostly disagree, but it does fit the profile of a left-wing critique of capitalism.
