About the Author

Hadena James began writing at the age of eight. By the time she graduated high school, she had published a couple of short stories in literary magazines. She completed writing her first novel at seventeen. Hadena began college as an English major, but quickly changed to a history major. However, she continued to write and took several extra classes in creative writing. College showed her that while she could write short stories, novel writing was truly where her heart lay. She graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in European History with minors in German and Russian Studies. During this time, she received a couple of contract offers from publishing houses, but ultimately turned them all down. In August 2012, she self-published her first novel. In retrospect, she is appreciative of the contracts offers she received when she was younger, but believes she made the right decision with self-publishing. When she isn’t busy writing, Hadena enjoys playing in a steel-tip dart league. She loves to travel throughout North America and Europe. Her favorite cities to visit are Chicago, Illinois and Berlin, Germany. She is an avid reader, with her favorites being classic literature; Edgar Allen Poe, HP Lovecraft, Gaston LeRoux, and Jane Austen; modern favorites include Clive Barker, James Patterson, Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams. Her favorite book is “Good Omens” by Neil Gaimen and Terry Pratchett. She writes all of her books while listening to music and the bands tend to get “honorable mentions” within the pages. Some of her favorite bands are Nine Inch Nails, KMFDM, Rammstein, U2, Marilyn Manson, Oomph!, and Rob Zombie. http://www.facebook.com/hadenajames hadenajames.wordpress.com

I loved this book. Kept me reading when I should be sleeping.

Great!  This book really shows that the author's greatest strength is creating characters.  Even when you think you shouldn't like Aislinn Cain, she worms her way into your heart.  The serious nature of the book does not disallow the characters to have humor and wit.   Also, the author, while taking a few fictional liberties, really seemed to know what they were talking about.   A definite "must read" for anyone that likes strong female characters, murder mysteries and/or serial killer mysteries.

A must read thriller that will keep you guessing. The writer definitely did her research on the torture devices used and the graphic details she used to used to describe what the victims went through . I had trouble putting this book down .

I love this book! I love all of Hadena's D&R series books but Tortured Dreams is my favorite. It's the first in the series and impossible to put down. I've read the entire series multiple times but Tortured Dreams the most!

My new favorite author. I read the number 2 in the series first when it popped up on BookBub, loved it and immediately bought this! Just really good reads. Going to get the 3rd of the series now! If you like criminal fiction with action, mystery, and sometimes a little creepy then you’ll really enjoy this book.

As I began reading I didn't think I was going to like the protagonist but she grew on me and I began to warm to her. However, the idea of a woman who attracts serial killers - oh come on! Intriguing but somewhat unbelievable. The book is very heavy on dialogue rather than action and when the action did happen towards the end, it seemed a bit too surreal. Putting all that aside, it was a good story and I have the next one queued to read.

Lyrical Life Quote - Fear serves a purpose but it is the stillness in us all that has the final say. Tortured Dreams by Hadena James is cleverly written with relatable characters that suffer unusual flaws and unique circumstance's. The book is engaging from start to finish with moments that leave you completely immersed. The descriptive knowledge behind each killing gives an unparalled depth and density to the plot along with a certain magnetism. Aslinn's character is as brilliant as she is unnerving, even with her courage and acceptance of who she is, there are still routines and technique's that she uses to cope and function on a relatively normal basis. Her past and present come together to create a future that before now she had never contemplated, and this is where she meets a small team of individuals. Through those team members you experience the toll that their life path takes, and feel how each person contributes but also understand the everyday issues of communication and difficulties within their working together. An entralling read with the the unconventional spiralling throughout. www.lyrical-lifeindiebookreviews.com

Am working my way quickly through the series. Wow. Okay massively gruesome, totally hypnotic. Excellent writing, characters and action. Not for the faint of heart, but if you like criminal minds you will love these. Take a chance like I did

This story was honestly good, kept me guessing as to who was the bad guy. The ending was a nice twist. I've never gotten into a lot of crime fiction, but if I can find more like this one I just might be hooked.

This book - although a little slow to grab my attention - held my atention throughout the entire rest of the bool. It never fails to make me shiver in anticipation and relief. The characters are very well developed and thy all know who they need to be and wha they need to do. It is very satisfying and a wonder and awe bringer. Very good. Very good indeed. Well done Hadena.

Other than King and Koontz I'm not a horror genra fan, but Hadena James has moved to the top of my reading list in all genras! In fact, after discovering her, I've ordered and read all of her books. And that was just a month ago! She has three series, The Dreams and Reality Series, The Brenna Strachen Series and The Dysfunctional Series. In all three she has a strong, smart, crazy female lead charactor and they will take you on a wild ride! If you enjoy being grabbed in the first paragraph and reading all night long, then you will like these books. But a small warning, the first one I read, Tortured Dreams, was so detailed and graphic I wasn't sure I could finish, it is a horror book! I did finish and I'm glad I did.
