RICH MEN AND DESPERATE GIRLS

A millionaire's party explodes when security catches an older man sexually abusing a teenage girl and her kid sister in an upstairs bedroom. The guard knows Dr. Waterstone and calls for help with the girls. That brings Corrie. When their pimp tries to force the girls to escape in his limo, one of them stabs him. That brings Cannon. The doc and the cop seem destined to meet over dead bodies.

A DEADLY RUSSIAN MOB BOSS

Through a series of murders, Cannon and Corrie unravel a web of crime. At the center of it is Miami mafiya boss Vladimir Chenyenko. A dangerous man to cross, he sends his thugs to kill the "escort service" manager who arranged the party. Overnight Cannon discovers another body, that of a wealthy society banker blackmailed into working for Chenyenko. Vlad does not like loose ends. Cannon and Corrie are now loose ends.

AN INTERNATIONAL CONSPIRACY

When Corrie turns up a lead through society gossip, they pay a visit to an agro-business magnate who is part of Chenyenko's network. "Texas Joe" Joiner welcomes them as houseguests because of Corrie's social connections. Cannon masquerades as her millionaire fiancé. Joe, too, masquerades, playing a deeper game tied to the Ukraine, where beautiful teenage girls are promised glamorous jobs as models in America. Arriving in Miami, they find only degrading horror. Determined to stop this obscene trafficking in human misery, the cop and the doc have a final showdown with the spider at the center of this web of evil.

About the Author

SHIRL HENKE lives in St. Louis, where she enjoys gardening in her yard and greenhouse, cooking holiday dinners for her family and listening to jazz. In addition to helping brainstorm and research her books, her husband Jim is “lion tamer” for their two wild tomcats, Pewter and Sooty, geniuses at pillage and destruction. Sooty's repertoire would be considered more impressive by many gardeners than Shirl's--he averages around a hundred mole kills a year.
Shirl has been a RITA finalist twice, and has won three Career Achievement Awards, an Industry Award and three Reviewer’s Choice Awards from Romantic Times. In 2013, Shirl was designated by Romantic Times as one of the "pioneers" of the modern romance novel.
“I wrote my first twenty-two novels in longhand with a ballpoint pen—it’s hard to get good quills these days,” she says. Dragged into the twenty-first century by her son Matt, a telecommunication specialist, Shirl now uses two of those “devil machines.” Another troglodyte bites the dust.
