This is an excellent novel about what makes a family, what defines love. It is a story you will not be able to put aside for anything as mundane as making dinner. These women and the men who support them emotionally are almost family and your heart breaks a little when they lose sight of their path to happiness. I will follow Sejal Badani. She will go on my must read shelf.

Check out the full review at Kritters Ramblings Three sisters grew up in a very hostile home. Their mother did nothing to protect them from an abusive father and they each came out of their childhood with different reactions on how they were going to approach their own families and adulthood. I absolutely adored this book. I loved how three sisters could grow up in the same home, but come out with completely different perspectives and react in completely different ways. I was so glad to hear this book from all three sisters perspectives and their mother. They each were able to tell their side of the story and I loved how the author weaved stories from the past with the present drama as their father is in a coma.

The lives of a mother and her three daughters are expertly portrayed in this heart-breaking book.  Ranee, mother to Marin, Sonya and Trisha calls out for support from her daughters as her husband Brent lies on his deathbed.  To try to make amends for the past is fraught with emotion, atonement and redemption.  Ms. Badani has written an honest, genuine story with insightful knowledge into the human spirit.
