Twenty-Two
There were arrows pointing to the stairs up into the plane and a man in a hazmat suit. He waved to them as if to say get going. Kaylan glared at him as she took off her mask.
"Mom." Lilah whispered to her.
"They're all wearing hazmat suits. No point in us wearing paper masks." She said as she climbed the stairs with her daughter. Lilah saw her point and took her mask off as well. Her mother wanted to take her someplace fun this summer. Not condemn her. Kaylan held her arms out. The teen climbed into her mother's lap and began to softly cry.
"I love you baby." Kaylan said as she rocked her child as her own tears flowed.
"I love you too mom." They both felt so alone.
