Katy Regnery has left her Blueberry Lane series in the dust with her ripped-from-the-headlines and eerily well-timed novel, "Unloved". The romance in this book is tender, sweet, and soft. Cassidy, the Hero is a Beta Hero: a compassionate caregiver and careful protector. His backstory is harsh, lonely and simply put … sad. Brynn the Heroine, is at the onset buried under two-years of grief. However as the storyline progresses not only is she smart, filled with an inner strength she becomes a hopeful optimist. The words "riveting", "compelling", and "intriguing" are weak when it comes to describing this novel. Katy Regnery's characters are charming and lovable and the storyline is tight and quickly moving. The beauty of "Unloved" is Katy Regnery's Happily-Ever-After solution. It's clever, unexpected, and well executed. It makes Brynn shine as a Heroine. At the conclusion, she dives in refusing to take her time recuperating or studying each and every clue and revelation. She goes after her man and their Happily-Ever-After. Her character runs the gamut from fragile shell to determined dynamo. Brynn's parents are a lovely pair perfect in their comic relief when they make their appearance. Cassidy is the story's star; a new brand of Fictional Book Boyfriend. Tender, kind, brave, and true. "Unloved" is a must-read dark romance that isn't truly dark but EXTREMELY TWISTY. Favorite Quotes: Her eyes are the same green as ivy leaves after a rainfall. Deep and alive. Bright and unforgettable. The sort of green that heralds spring and promises rebirth. Glorious, vibrant… I wish I was the sun so I could shine down on her, so I could examine every peak and valley of her face until I have it memorized and can recall it at any lonesome moment: the sad, beautiful, green-eyed girl from the forest. I am not screaming for my past or my present. I am screaming for my future. I am screaming because I know I want it and someone is taking it away from me. If I had ever met him before, I wouldn’t have forgotten him. Why? Because his eyes are unforgettable, otherworldly. Surrounded by long, thick lashes that curl up at the ends, his left eye is green and his right eye is blue. You are . . . the greatest . . . treasure . . . of my entire life. My Review: Ms. Regnery’s emotive and heart-rending storyline turned me inside out and then it wrecked me. My heart was squeezed, battered, and bruised, but as always with Ms. Regnery’s captivating tales, it concluded with a satisfying HEA, but not without some major plot twists and gut-wrenching events. I adored these compelling and endearing characters and was engaged and intrigued by their poignant and transformative story from beginning to end. Ms. Regnery’s superb and descriptive writing has a cinematic quality that was well-crafted and thoughtfully and vividly detailed with no annoying loose threads to pluck at my brain later.

I have so many things to say about this book and the majority isn't good. If I ever read "you're my angel" or "you're my life's greatest treasure" again I will barf. One thing I did like was when Brynn said something along the lines of "if you don't read romance, what's wrong with you?". I like reading romance, I'm not ashamed and I don't think anyone else should be either. That being said, this wasn't the story for me. SPOILER I was a little weirded out that Cassidy was having sex with Brynn she was wearing his dead mother's dress. On the plus side: the attack in the lean-to, in the beginning, was frightening and the little twist was a good end. I did want the happy ending overall. It did feel like insta-love which I think isn't for me.

Unloved by Katy Regnery is a fantastic read. Ms. Regnery has given us a book that is well-written and loaded with amazing characters. Cassidy's father was a serial killer. He and his mother moved in with his grandfather. Brynn's fiance was killed in a mass shooting and has been struggling with it for two years. Brynn and Cassidy's story is full of drama, sizzle, action and suspense. This book snagged me at page one and held me captive until the end. Unloved is an awesome book that will pull on your heartstrings, over and over. I look forward to reading more from Katy Regnery soon. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger. I voluntarily read a complimentary copy of this book that I received from Bookfunnel. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Oh my gawd!!! Katy Regnery absolutely tore me apart piece by piece with her latest, Unloved. She then slowly, with careful precision, put me back together again when I didn’t think it could be done. I know, without a doubt, I will NEVER forget this story or Brynn and Cassidy. Ironically, I really struggle reviewing books that touch me deeply. I just don’t have the words. I am not a writer. My job is to read and then leave a few words here and there relating what I thought about the book before moving on to the next one in the pile. Unloved cannot, under any circumstances, be broken down into simple words and sentences. It is a book that you must read to appreciate the depth of the characters, the brokenness inherent within Cassidy and the futileness of a relationship between him and Brynn. Never have I felt more deeply for a hero than I did Cassidy. From the beginning my heart broke for him. Over and over again. Even when love was right there where he could touch it, taste it, embrace it, he was never free to do so. This story didn’t even come close to where I thought we’d eventually end up. Why did I expect the predictable from this author when I know she doesn’t do predictable? I refuse to go into any of the storyline because, amazing as it is, this book is so much more. This is a true showcase of Ms. Regnery’s abilities to form, create and share her characters with her readers. As a fan of her Fairytale set, I only thought I had experienced her best work. With Unloved I realized she had only been whetting our appetites. If you are going to read only one book this year it must be Unloved. Dual POV Safe – no ow/om Possible triggers listed in book blurb

Oh Wow!! I am in awe over this book. This epic story was nothing like I expected it to be. Katy Regnery is a new to me author and she just TOTALLY blew me away with Unloved. My favorite read of the year!! My heart broke for both Brynn and Cassidy from the very start, but in different ways. Their story is so real and Katy's writing is so freaking good that you feel all the feels with this story. I couldn't figure out how that this story was going to go or how it was going to end until that jaw dropping moment. It's so hard to write a review for Unloved without wanting to giveaway too much. Brynn and Cassidy's love story is a very unforgettable love story. One that is guaranteed to stick with you for a long time. Happy Reading Everyone!!

If I ever had the urge to write a book on how much I loved another book, THIS BOOK would be that muse for me. Books can be miraculous when an author is able to deliver something truly special in their beloved pages. "Unloved, A Love Story" was this type of miracle for me. How did Katy Regnery capture so much in just 300 pages? It seems so small when given such an epic story...the magic of words joined together to give us something heart-breaking, soul-crushing, and ultimately, unforgettable. "Unloved, A Love Story" is Katy Regnery as you've NEVER seen her before. Going into this book, I expected Katy's gorgeous writing, marked by sometimes poetic metaphors and lyrical prose. I expected Katy's captivating storytelling that takes you on a true emotional journey to a happily ever after. And I expected truly unforgettable characters that you won't, or can't, soon forget. This book was all of this and so much more! I don't know that I've ever read a book that had me experience so many emotions of the human condition: grief, loss, fear, angst, shock, endearment, intrigue. My reviews are always spoiler-free, so I won't give anything away, but trust me when I say that THIS BOOK IS AN EXPERIENCE UNLIKE ANY OTHER YOU'VE READ BEFORE! In this book, we see multiple characters and examples of humanity at its absolute worst, but also at is absolute best with our hero, Cassidy Porter. Cass was a complex and swoon-worthy character. It's difficult to describe his rugged sexiness against his naivete. He's not your typical alpha romance hero, but he's just SO CAPABLE. Raised by his mom and grandpa, he believes the best path to redemption from his father's sins is to end his evil bloodline with him. Existing in a quiet life, secluded from society, he can never truly "live" with the DNA he was cursed with by his monster of a father. Until Brynn stumbles into his life... "She is everything I want that I can't have, more and more necessary for survival, which means it will destroy me when I let her go." Brynn was a heroine I loved getting to know in this book. She changes and grows in so many ways throughout the course of the story, with Cass being an integral part of her healing (both physically and mentally), giving her the strength to see their love thru to the very last page of their story. "I am undone by the hugeness of his heart, by the unselfishness of his spirit." "Unloved, A Love Story" is romance at its best and if you're looking for a book to get you out of a reading rut, look no further. This story was perfectly-paced, well-researched, unexpected, and beautifully written. It's a true testament to the author's talent, and as my 175th book for 2017, it is hand's down, MY TOP READ FOR THE YEAR!!!

Oh my HEART!!! I will NEVER be the same after reading this absolutely beautiful, incredibly touching and soul-shatteringly EPIC love story!!! Katy Regnery has made it onto my TOP READS EVER list with Unloved!!! Cassidy Porter and Brynn Cadogan will be FOREVER imprinted on my heart... You know when you read a blurb about an upcoming release and you FEEL it?! How you just KNOW that this story will rip your heart to shreds but you HOPE that the author will be talented enough to put it back together again?! Well,I can tell you that Katy has written an OUTSTANDING love story that does those things...and sooooo much MORE!!! Cassidy Porter, as a child, grabs on to your heartstrings, tugs and pulls, makes you feel so sad and helpless. But Cassidy as a man, who has lived "off the grid" in a remote cabin in the mountains for years after promising his Mom that he would "live quiet" and not subject anyone to the murderous genes he inherited from his father? ABSOLUTELY broke my heart and had me wishing I could just hug him and make him feel like he wasn't alone, that he DESERVES love! My heart shattered so many times while reading this story, I can't tell you how ALL the feels had me reaching for tissues, time and time and time again! But the beauty of both Cass and Brynn's characters and heart spoke to my soul and I was simply helpless! There was no way I could NOT fall head-over-heels in love with both of them! This book is EVERYTHING!!!! I can't recommend this MAGICAL, emotional MUST READ highly or strongly enough!!! Katy Regnery is a GENIUS and will forever be an auto one-click author for me!

Amazing. Darker. Hopeful. Gritty. And the one set of words I rarely say - I never saw that coming. Katy Regnery once again delivers the best in reading contemporary romance, and does so brilliantly with this unexpected tale. First, do not be wary of the title. You'll get a HEA that you know the characters will deserve as Ms Regnery never lets her readers down. But getting there? Mind.Blown I feel that I am a rarity amongst the readership where I want - no - I demand that there is equal strength in the main characters. I felt I understood the whys of where Brynn and Cass are when their paths cross due to the perfect depth in the delivery of the back story. Brynn. She is the ideal in a heroine I look for. Soft and vulnerable when needed, but delivers a strength that moves the story to an amazing conclusion. She's the friend you count on. The person you wish the best of everything. The woman you admire for her quiet tenacity and perseverance. The reader knows: She feels unloved. Cass. He is the troubled hero. The one you want to fix and make things better. Yet, you comprehend that with circumstance and time, why this man is this man. He is the gentle giant who will give the shirt off his back. The person you wish the best of everything but understand why not possible. The man you admire for his strength of belief and devotion. The reader knows: He believes he should be unloved. What happens when two people who have the best reasons for being unloved find each other in unusual circumstances? You have this story. When I say that Ms Regnery writing is magical, I am not talking about a separation from reality. I want to be entertained, but I don't handle when the writing veers and tries too hard. This story - wow - it kept me compelled to continue until wee hours of the night because I was equal vested in their outcome. The reading was paced where the pages flowed flawlessly. I finished the story feeling fulfilled as I always do with Katy's writing. And yet, this was different and intriguing to have me still thinking about it days after finishing. If you are a fan of Katy Regnery's Blueberry Lane/Heart of Montana series, this is a departure from those happy and delightful stories. But I implore you to read it because she delivers something equally if not better in this story. If you are a fan of Ms Regnery's fairytales, I know you will be enamored for this tale to join their ranks. Not a fan? You soon will be. This is a 5 star read for me and yet feels like those are not enough to express how much I loved this story.

First let me say as with all of my reviews I will certainly strive to give you a vibrant image of how fantastic Unloved is without any spoilers to this story. That being said, this is probably going to be one of the most difficult reviews I have ever written because there is so much to say about Unloved that I simply won’t be able to articulate how truly exceptional it is other than simply saying: YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK!! In typical Katy Regnery fashion, her characters are extraordinary. You will find yourself attached to them from the moment you pick up your iPad leaving you with such an intensified curiosity as to how their lives will progress that you won’t want to put it down until you see the words “The End.” To be honest, after having seen the cover of Unloved, so different from those which have preceded it, as well as reading the synopsis, I was unsure of exactly what to expect with this new release. I’ve been following Ms. Regnery for years ever since her first series, Heart of Montana, and she quickly attained her rightful place at the top of my “must read” authors list with her knack for lighthearted romance as well as her more serious modern fairytales. As such, it’s never a question of whether or not I will read one of her novels; only how quickly I can get my hands on it. As I began reading Unloved I could almost immediately sense how different this story was going to be from her other novels. And now, after having reached the end, I am in complete awe of Katy Regnery. The amazing development and progression her writing style has taken over the years is absolutely magical and this story exhibits exactly that. The depth of development of all her characters is always spectacular, but Cassidy and Brynn are remarkable. I could feel the immediate emotional attachment to them both from the inception of this story. Both Brynn and Cassidy suffer from emotionally tragic events that have occurred in their past. But from the moment Cassidy sees her, he feels a connection to Brynn he has never before experienced, though he knows he must keep his distance. But when circumstances dictate that he has no choice but to step out of the shadows to help her, he knows it is what he must do. From the moment Brynn looks into his unusual eyes (this will make sense when you read the book), she begins to feel an undeniable connection to Cassidy as well. As Brynn overcomes the hurt from her past and begins to express what she feels for him, Cassidy fights with his growing feelings for Brynn as he knows to the depths of his soul that because of who he is, forever is not an option for him. Will Brynn’s persistence and determination ultimately lead her to a path of finding a way to break through to Cassidy and prove to him that he is not the man he is convinced he is, and that they truly belong together to share a lifetime of love they both deserve? Using the term “love story” just does not cover it with Unloved. Katy Regnery has also given us moments of on the edge of your seat suspense intertwined with heartbreak and a touchingly deep, to the depths of your soul, romance. Unloved will make you cry with sadness and will also leave with you tears of happiness as Cass & Brynn find their happily ever after. So though I will call Unloved a love story, I will also describe it as magical, extraordinary and so far beyond what Ms. Regnery has given to us in the past. It transcends the simple love story universe and travels far into the cosmos.

Having read the blurb for Unloved, I was a little scared to read the book itself. The despair evident within just those few lines broke my heart. It also haunted me and kept pulling me back, so I took a chance. Like me, Unloved is Katy Regnery stepping out of her comfort zone and getting surprising results. Cassidy takes readers on an introspective journey that is tragic, inspirational and courageously heartbreaking. Brynn is Cassidy's chance at redemption, if he steps out of his father's shadow, maybe he can save himself. Not only did I lose my breath, I left my heart behind as well.
