Sloane has always been a no nonsense kind of gal. She works hard in the ER and has the respect of her fellow coworkers. When she finally decides to let loose and have some fun, she's humiliatated when she propositions Reece. Reece, her best friend's brother, has dated or slept with all the nurses she works with, so she figures why not? When Reece turns her down with cruel words, she takes it personally. A huge hit to her self esteem and confidence. Reece has always had a crush on Sloane, but knew she was off limits as she was his sister's best friend. After a night of drinking, Reece finds himself in a predicament. He wants Sloane, but knows he's not "the one" for her. So he says mean, hurtful things to her in order to push her away. None of what he says is true, but he knows she deserves better than him. Reece also has his Chief, who's approaching retirement, to contend with. So his focus needs to be on work, not Sloane. In efforts to keep his job, Reece agrees to be auctioned at the firefighter's benefit. Seeking revenge, Sloane uses the opportunity to purchase Reece's services, 4 duties in 4 weeks. Sloane starts off giving Reece jobs that she knows will mess with his sterile, orderly life--like fostering a dog and cleaning out dog cages. Reece completes all tasks without complaint as he knows the Chief is looking for a reason to transfer him. When Sloane discovers the "true" Reece, she can't quite make herself torture Reece anymore. But one email sent in error to Reece's boss could destroy what they've built. Who doesn't love a novel with a hot fireman, a cute dog who picks out her outfits, and an intelligent heroine??? I absolutely loved Reece's interactions with his foster fur baby! Soooo adorable. I could also relate to Sloane's struggles with self esteem and insecurities with love. I enjoyed the couple's friends and commeraderie as well. I highly recommend this novel and the rest of the series. I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.

Up in Flames is the 2nd book in the Flirting with Fire Series. It's a stand alone issue that doesn't have to be read in order, is multi-genre, hilarious, has interconnecting characters and a HEA. The characters are great, it's so well written, the dialogue makes you laugh out loud and the ending came on quickly but didn't disappoint. This is Reese and Sloane's story and I was so glad that "love and leave'em" Reese finally met his match in Sloane. They have history together and she doesn't fall for his charm. The tug of war between these two are addictive. Great job Jennifer Blackwood, another 5 star book!!!

This fireman sure has a way with the ladies. Except the nursing staff at the local hospital...it seems they aren't fans. What a shame too since he is very...gifted. I'd say he's just misunderstood but he earned some of his infamy. Now, he's about to be at the mercy of his biggest frenemy. Hold your hoses and cross your fingers because this is going to get bumpy.

This was the first novel that I have read by Jennifer Blackwood. Her writing technique was strong and the story was lighthearted and amusing. However, other than this being your typical “hate to love” romance story, the plot was underdeveloped. I would have liked to see more development within the story line itself. The reader was set up to become invested in the arson and investigation situation but the story line failed to develop. Perhaps with this being a series, it was to be a prologue into the next book, however, it failed on several levels. It made the entire novel feel anticlimactic. If you are a fan of enemy to lover romance and can overlook the lack of a developed plot, then I can recommend this book. Personally, there are too many other books in this genre that provide intricate plot lines. 2 stars.

Up In Flames by Jennifer Blackwood is the second book in her Flirting With Fire series. Told in dual POV between Sloane Garcia and Reece Jenkins this book CAN standalone but it is better to have read the series in order starting with Burning Up. Romantic, funny, slightly suspenseful, this is a enemies to lovers story and was well-written and well-paced. Sloane has known Reece forever but has only hated him passionately for the past 12 months or so. When he cuttingly shot her down one drunken night post-breakup the passionate hatred began and hasn't been doused yet. But when Reece shows up in the ER she works in as a patient this time instead of bringing in a patient she realizes she cares about him more than she ever realized. Reece didn't mean to shoot Sloane down as harshly as he did but he's always liked her and with her being his sister's best-friend, he didn't want to ruin anything - especially when she was three sheets to the wind and probably would've regretted it IF she even remembered it. But when it backfires and he suffers her loathing over the next year - he begins to regret it even more. His apology was never accepted but when his job lands him in the ER as her patient things change between them. Is it enough for him to salvage a friendship and maybe start something even more complex? Loved this - can't wait for book 3 in the series. Enjoy!

Watch out for flying sparks and cutting snark in this energetic and passionate romance. Sloane and Reece are two strong, stubborn and charismatic characters that demand attention as they work toward a relationship that doesn’t seem likely. The romance starts off real rocky and continues with a passionate and verbal back and forth as Sloane sets up a bit “take your own medicine” to the cocky firefighter. Reece realizes his mistake, but isn’t sure how to fix it, so to protect his heart, he continues with witty repertoire while accepting her little payback. This keeps things exciting and causes quite a few chuckles along the way, but that’s not all that this romance has. Readers also find that they are drawn to these two characters vulnerable sides as the author does a great job of describing the emotional turmoil that Sloane and Reece go through before they ever reach that happily ever after. The story is fast paced and has quite a few other things going on throughout the story as well as the feisty romance. There is trouble with Reece’s fire Chief and quite a few fires where danger seems to follow Reece and his unit. Readers never get a chance to become bored and they have to know what will happen between the combatants of this romance. The book can be read as a standalone, which is a good thing since I haven’t read the first book in this series yet, but I will be remedying that soon as I got to meet those characters and really want to know what happened during their romance.

2.75 Stars Friends to Lovers. Slow Burn. Firefighter Auction. On one hand, I really liked the book and then on the other - I didn't. First, let me just say I'm not a huge fan of slow burns or too much push and pull during a story. There I said it. Unfortunately for me, that was a huge part of this book. The blurb intrigued me and I was really excited to start this book. (Hot firefighters anyone?) As the story played out through the push and pull was just too much for me, and I found myself bored and skimming the book. I do NOT want my preference of the slow burn to persuade anyone from not trying this book. Different strokes for different folks. This was my first book by Jennifer Blackwood and I promise it won't be my last. I liked her writing style and how she can draw you into the story. If you like slow burns - then buy this book!

This is a fun book. The main charters are at odds most of the time. This is because of one night she remembers one way and he another. Their banter makes this a fun and crazy ride. But where there is smoke there is fire. When they do finally get together this is a great stand-alone. I have not read others in the series and I was not lost or felt left out anywhere have fun with this one.

Again? Yes. Again. It was the cover that drew me in. Five stars for that Thinker of a firefighter...but I digress. My first Jennifer Blackwood story. I liked her writing style, pace, and the getting-to-know-you convos and humor in the first half of the book. I say this because the "auction" trope has never been a fave of mine, especially when the participant is being forced to participate. I'm looking at you chief! Again...that cover drew me ;) Still, I do lurve me some second chance frenemies to lovers trope!! How doesn't working out all those issues that could easily have been righted with one, maybe two, intelligent grown-up heart-to-hearts! So I hung. And then the author started to throw lots of obstacles in our MCs paths. As if his job being on the line wasn't enuf (auction shenanigans and her "report" back to the chief after the favors are done) there was...well...I'm not gonna tell you cause it would spoil the plot. Let's just say that the author could have weeded out 2/3 of the hurdles and gave us more backstory on the OM and Sloane's relationship, more of Sloane (a nurse) being concerned about Reese's "accidents" on the job. Scheesh. He gets **** AND **** AND a concussion, but what the heck, he's got a doctor's slip to return to work so let's just not talk about it again. And speaking about not talking about IT, their first intimate encounter was with happy fingers...then snap...they jump apart...act like NO THAT CAN'T EVER HAPPEN AGAIN! Then in the next (heavy) breath they go right back to a discussion on decorating his apartment. WTH. Can't these young people ever talk through anything that means anything??? I did like the writing. It flowed pretty smooth, just all the plot hurdles (way too many IMHO) slowed it down. I really liked the humor, some of it was silly (and made me laugh) and some of it was really witty (which kept me engaged). I liked Blake Shelton ;) So between the awesome cover, the humor, and the secondary cast of thousands (I loved that both our MCs have loving families), and Reece (a really great guy albeit clueless about a lot of stuff) I am rating this a 3* A couple of things where big holdups for me. First, why didn't Erin, Reece's sister and Sloane's best friend, intercede more? Why didn't any of their childhood friends? I also didn't feel all the plot points had enough, or any, closure. But my biggest thing was Sloane. I liked her in the beginning, but she did not grow as a character for me much beyond the 50% mark until the very end of their journey. She was plainly and continually mean to Reece (yeah, yeah, I get it *air quotes* she had "shields") far too long after they started to work toward each other. And Reece had a hard way to go to prove he cared about her. She saw to that. And he did show he cared (that was pretty swoony stuff). Some of the things Sloane said to him made me want to throat check her. Drunk email was not even the worst of it. But that's me. You might be more sympathetic. You might like this chaotic girl-child with blue hair LOL. Cleary Reece thought she was worth it in the end. I can deal with that, my man. I can deal. Try not to get hurt so much anymore, okay? Someone has to dress Peaches responsibly. *ARC received through NetGalley for an honest review*

4 Stars Review by Morgen Late Night Reviewer Up All Night w/ Books Blog Up in Flames by Jennifer Blackwood is an enemy to lovers, best friends brother romance. This book encourages you to go for what you want. Sloane is a nurse practitioner. She loves to bake and do crafts, to her all the colors of the rainbow are beautiful. Her ex cheated on her after ten years together and when she caught him he blamed it all on her. It broke down vital pieces of her confidence and she hasn’t been able to put herself back into the dating world ever since. Sloane is stubborn, persistent, and caring. Reece is a firefighter at Station Eleven. He loves saving peoples lives. He likes to be in control. He’s had his heart-broken before and now he has a rule that he doesn’t sleep with a woman more than once to keep his heart safe and his life uncomplicated. His life revolves around work. Since his sister, Erin is in a relationship with his best friend so he gets to see her more now and Sloane too as they are best friends. He’s cocky, daring, and driven. They’ve known each other almost their whole lives. Neither is ready for real intimacy, fear of being hurt again prominent in their mind. Sloane has held a grudge against Reece for some time now and to say their relationship is a bit prickly would be an understatement. They make it awkward whenever they’re both in the same room. The annual firefighter auction Four for Four is coming up and after a hiccup at work he’s roped into it. When the opportunity arises for Sloane to get some payback, how could she refuse? Four Favors in Four weeks what could go wrong. She can bring him to his knees. I love that the story is told from both Reece and Sloane’s POV. It lets us see a much clearer picture of the characters and their behavior. I really enjoyed their witty banter and the undeniable chemistry that continuously sparked between them. They know just how to press each other’s buttons, and do so with a smile on their face. The evolution of their relationship drew me in. Seeing it from both their POV warmed my heart. Their insecurities connected me with them. I felt a part of their inner struggle as they fought their attraction for each other. The angst in every moment they touched or shared a look was everything I wanted and more. Once they finally gave in to their inner most desires flames erupted from their passion. Could they ever stop? Would they ever want to? I’d recommend to anyone who enjoys witty banter, sassy females, and hot fireman with a sharp tongue that never quits.

This is the second book in the series, and I enjoyed it more than book 1! Reece Jenkins is a top notch firefighter, and the older brother of the heroine, Erin, from book 1. He had a horrible breakup with his high school sweetheart about 10 years before, and he's never gotten serious with anyone else since then. It's always one and done for him. He has no one to worry about in his life but his family, and his team at work, and that is how he wants it to stay. No one to think about, or answer to. But, his new chief at the station hates him, and has basically ordered him to participate in the firefighter's auction at a charity event. The firefighter being auctioned has to do 4 favors in 4 weeks for the winner. He has no idea how the woman who bids on him will change his life. Especially since he's already known her for so many years. Sloane Garcia is an amazing nurse practitioner in the ER, and she loves her job. She has also been an honorary member of the Jenkins family since she was a kid, and became best friends with Erin. She was always over there with Erin, and following Reece and Jake around growing up. Then a year ago after a terrible breakup, Sloane was drowning her sorrows at the bar when Reece offered to drive her home. She came on to him, and he declined, in the STUPIDEST way possible, and she's never forgiven him. Now, all they do is snipe and bicker at each other, and it's driving the rest of their friends insane. She decides to get ultimate revenge on Reece by winning him at the auction. She'll have 4 solid weeks to make his life miserable. Best laid plans... Reece and Sloane had chemistry like whoa, and everyone could see it, even through their constant fighting. Reece has always wanted Sloane, but she was drunk that night, and he refused to take advantage of the situation. He's felt tremendously bad about how he turned her down though, and now she hates him, and won't ever let him get a word in long enough to apologize. When they finally start spending time together after the auction, things begin to change. Reece is finally able to apologize for the part he's played in their feud, and Sloane finally actually listens to him, and believes that he's sorry. They both start to see each other in a new light, and it was so fun to watch. Reece's foster dog Peaches was a hilarious character unto herself! I loved watching all her antics, especially her fear of a certain famous country singer, which made me laugh out loud every time. The supporting cast, including Reece's family, and work friends, Sloane's friends at the hospital, and her other best friend, Madison, made for an entertaining group. I liked how the main characters really learned to communicate with each other, and I always appreciate when the issues they face in the story aren't due to a lack of communication. Reece was honest about his failings in his dealings with Sloane in the past, and Sloane was honest about her hurt in how the situation was handled. She was also finally healing from her horrible breakup and the awful things her ex said to her, so she was better able to realize that the grudge she'd been holding wasn't solely about Reece anyway. I really liked that once they started truly talking to each other, they realized how much they enjoyed each other's company. I will definitely be looking forward to more in this series.

From the moment Sloane Garcia met Reece she fell hard for his sexy smirk and knee weakening one liners, but she was younger, and his sister's best friend, so he kept a safe distance, and she developed an unshakable crush. One night after a few too many she finally works up the nerve to make her move, thinking maybe he finally would feel the same, but he shuts her down, and it hurts something fierce. And that is when her deep hatred for the man starts, every time he is around she tries to find a reason to vacate the premises, and if he dares talking to her, she gives him nothing but icy stares. Then her friend mentions the firefighter auction, and it's as if a miracle of sorts just pops into her lap, it's the perfect way to exact a little revenge, and pay him back for the hurt he caused her that night. She is more than ready to make him pay, but once the game has begun she realizes she may have bitten off more than she can chew! As soon as I cracked the cover on this one, and these two started to dish out the banter I couldn't help but want to get comfortable, and see how it all played out... and wow what a spicy little game of revenge it turned out to be! These two were made for one another, they had chemistry for days, and their heated little exchanges did not disappoint, they brought on the heat, angst, and emotion, and had me feeling every ounce of it. There is even a little mystery happening in the background that keeps you wondering how that is going to play out later in the series, I can't wait to see what happens with that. I thoroughly enjoyed this one, it was steamy, dramatic, and riddled with the feels, and of course came with a irresistible firefighter who knows just the right words to have you swooning throughout! Highly recommend! I requested an advanced copy of this title, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.

I love the enemies-to-lovers troupe, and the idea that Sloane would "buy" Reece in the Four for Four Auction (a charity auction where firefighters go to the highest bidders and have to do four "honey do" type tasks for them in the next month) and then come up with evil tasks for him to do for her was inspired. The first was by far my favorite--OMG, Peaches. I'll never hear or see Blake Shelton without thinking of this story again... ;) Though I loved Sloane (living her best cat lady life...without the actual cats) and Reece individually as characters and of course wanted them to find their HEA, the road on the way there felt unnecessarily aggravating at times with all the two steps forward, nineteen steps back that they tended to do. The cause of their black moment stretched belief a bit but it did have a sweet ending, with the right people making decent reparations for it. There were a lot of LOL moments along the way, too, which kept me reading even when the main characters were making me a little crazy. It was fun to see Erin and Jake (from book one-- Burning Up ) again, and I've got high hopes for future series books--Hollywood and the arson investigator, right? And Madison needs an HEA... ;) If you haven't read the first book, though, no worries--this one really would do fine as a standalone. You're gonna want to read book one, however. Just sayin'... Rating: 3 1/2 stars / B I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

I thought this book was very enjoyable. It's a lighthearted and fun enemies to lovers story that just made me smile. Reece and Sloane have history. They had one incredible night together then Reece turned into a major jerk. Sloane's never forgiven him and now he's at her mercy after she "buys" him at a charity auction. He has to fulfill four wishes for her and it's fun to watch her make him squirm. Will they be the same when this is all over? This is a great read filled with lots of snark, humor and fun. I definitely recommend this one.

This is book 2 in the Flirting with Fire series and can absolutely be read as a standalone. I didn't read the first book before this one and understood everything that happened. This one is about Sloane Garcia and Reece Jenkins. Sloane and Reece have been at each other's throats ever since he was beyond rude and mean when Sloane was already down. Sloane tries to stay away from him but it's hard to do when he is her best friend's brother and their friend's are all mutual. But when she finds out that he is going on the auction block for the firefighter's annual charity event, she can't help but to buy him and try to find ways to get back at him. But neither of them thought about the fact that they are now forced to spend time together, and to actually work out the issues they may have. Even when something else happens that wasn't planned on or even meant to happen. I really liked this book! Sloane was beyond snarky and cracked me up all over the place! And the way she doesn't put up with any kind of snark or meanness just made my day! I didn't start off liking Reece. I thought he was beyond a jerk and just didn't respect women at all. But he redeemed himself by the end, and after understanding what happened, it made it a little more understandable. Even if I still didn't like how he acted. On a whole though, I really liked this book. Both characters ended up likable and definitely showed how they grew and learned to move on from their pasts. Now I need a book about Hollywood!

LOVED this book! I was literally laughing out loud and smiling while reading. This is witty and smart and allows us int Reece and Sloane's world, where they are stuck in the annoying hate antics more common to siblings. And, with Reece's best friend and sister a couple and Sloane his sister's best friend, there is no getting away from each other. Things come to a head when Sloane bids on Reece at the bachelor auction. It's supposed to be four chores in four weeks, however, Sloane has every intention of drawing it out to maximize Reece's discomfort. The first task was hilarious. How something so simple could be made so funny is demonstrative of the the author's talent. This made me laugh through the whole section, especially on how Reece attempted to control the results of that task. If you want a funny, contemporary romance, you have found it in this novel. It is smart, fun, and a must read for fans of the genre. The author is on my must read authors' list.

This is the second book in this series. I have to say I loved Sloane and Reece together. They had so much chemistry together but they both chose to ignore that and just plain disliked each other. Sloane bought him at an auction … 4 weeks – 4 favors. Seeing what Sloane decides on next to torture Reece was very entertaining. Seeing how Reece dealt with each favor she asked of him was even more entertaining. This book was so funny in parts it had me laughing out loud. As the book progressed you could see the feelings shifting and you kept praying that they would give in. Both Sloane and Reece are very stubborn people. I absolutely loved this book. It kept me reading late into the night. I found it to be hot, frustrating and funny all at the same time. I can’t wait until the next book in this series. Thanks Net Galley. I voluntarily reviewed this book in exchange for an honest review.

This whole book is set out to prove that the saying THERE IS FINE LINE BETWEEN LOVE AND HATE. It was so fun to read how much they wanted to avoid each other but ended up spending more time together. And all this bonding leads them to realize why they were attracted to each other before "the incident". All in all I really liked this story but I'm not sure what is up with blue hair...but that's personal opinion and has nothing to do with my rating ***Review copy requested and reviewed on behalf of OMGReads Blog***

A year ago, Reece Jenkins made a terrible mistake, hurting his long time friend Sloan - who has never forgiven him. And since Reece's sister also happens to be Sloan's best friend, he can't avoid seeing her at social events - where they never fail to have a major blow up. When Reece participates in the annual firehouse charity event, Sloan decides to make him pay for his mistake, bidding on him to owe four favors. As the weeks go by Sloan comes at Reece with some real doozies for her favors, but they find themselves bickering less often, and laughing more. As the two grow closer, its just a matter of time before they'll both give into their feelings. But when Sloan inadvertently puts Reece in a bad position all of the progress the two have made may go down the drain. Up in Flames is a really great Friends - to Enemies - to Lovers story. The banter and energy between Reece and Sloan was so fun to read.... and the scenes with a certain four legged friend are downright hysterical. Definitely dig into Up in Flames, for the laughs, the love, and of course, the sexy firefighters.
