About the Author

Bill Wallace grew up in Oklahoma. Along with riding their horses, he and his friends enjoyed campouts and fishing trips. Toasting marshmallows, telling ghost stories to scare one another, and catching fish was always fun.
One of the most memorable trips took place on the far side of Lake Lawtonka, at the base of Mt. Scott. He and his best friend, Gary, spent the day shooting shad with bow and arrows, cutting bank poles, and getting ready to go when their dads got home from work.
Although there was no "monster" in Lake Lawtonka, one night there was a "sneak attack" by a rather large catfish tail. Checking the bank poles was not nearly as fun or "free" after that point, but it was the inspiration for this story.
Bill Wallace has won nineteen children's state awards and been awarded the Arrell Gibson Lifetime Achievement Award for Children's Literature from the Oklahoma Center for the Book.

This is a story about how a cat and a dog can be friends. Upchuck is the cat and Rotten Willy is the dog. When Upchuck¿s friend moves away and his Katie goes to some place called College, he becomes lonely. So the only one to play with is Rotten Willy, a Rottweiler, ¿As big as a car and as black as death itself,¿ but can he trust him to be his friend and not another stupid dog wanting to bite off his head and eat him for lunch? If you want to find out, then you will have to read the book! It warmed my heart, and made me laugh. If you like books about animals and like to laugh, then this book is for you! I absolutely love this book, and so did my students. It has some great lessons on friendship. There is lots of dialogue that is really fun to read out loud. This book and its two sequels are my students' favorite books year after year.

This was the best book ever!It is about a cat named Chuck he living a great life until his friend Louie got smushed by a car!And then his other friend moved. He needed some friends then he fell over the fence onto Willys yard.Willys a rottwiller he's nice but Chuck always thinks he's tricking him but he never is.One day Chuck gets stuck in a tree surrownded by mean poodles they never took their eye off him. Then he falls into Willys yard but Willy just plops him in his water bowl fof a drink then carried him to the food bowl for some food then into his doghouse.Chuck tried to run for it but Willy blocked the doorway! He said Chuck would never make it throuh the cold snow and rain cold as ice.He would have been right. He saved his life. And they became friends.

I like Upchuck and Rotten Willy because it has cats and dogs that are funny and friendly. They became friends because they needed food and got it from Lugie¿s restaurant. It was funny when the spaghetti got on their faces and paws This book should be read by kids who like to imagine cats and dogs getting along. This a really great book to read.

This book is about a cat who can't find another cat to be a friend with. His two best friends Louie and Tom were gone. Louie got smushed by a car and Tom moved away. So Chuck was lonely. So can Chuck find a friend? Read the book and find out.
