On February 1, 2017, inmates took control of the C Building of James T Vaughn Correctional Center, located in Smyrna Delaware. After a 20- hour standoff, police were able to regain control, and rescued three or the four correction's staff members that were held hostage, Prison Counselor, Patricia May, and Guards Joshua Wilkinson and Winslow Smith.
