What I've Done (Morgan Dane Series #4) by Melinda Leigh

Morgan Dane’s new client has blood on her hands—and no recollection of what happened—as the #1 Amazon Charts bestselling series continues.

Haley Powell wakes up covered in blood, with no memory of the night before. When she sees a man lying in the backyard, stabbed to death, she has only one terrified thought: What have I done?

Agreeing to take the case as a favor to her PI friend Lincoln Sharp, Morgan must scale a mountain of damning circumstantial and forensic evidence to prove her client innocent. Haley couldn’t appear more guilty: her bloodstained fingerprints are on the murder weapon, and she has no alibi. But Morgan can’t shake the feeling that this shocked young woman has been framed.

Someone out there is hell-bent on sabotaging her defense, targeting Morgan, her partner, and especially Haley. Someone who will stop at nothing—and whose next move will be deadly.

The fourth book in the Morgan Dane series is amazing. What I’ve Done is a complete story. The book starts with a new case and ends with Morgan Dane and her co-characters solving the case. I have only read 2 of the 4 books and I will say that I enjoyed this one more than the last because I better understood some of the characters relationships to each other and why they reacted the way they did. Yet, each book in this series can be read without any knowledge of past storylines. With this case, Morgan is paired with Lincoln Sharp and his history. The case kept me guessing, kept me wondering, and kept me hoping that everything would work out for Haley Powell. I was intrigued by how they could possibly find out the truth when Haley had no memories and only nightmares to go on. But I knew that somehow, someway Morgan Dane, Lincoln Sharp, and PI Lance would find the needed answers to save Haley. Melinda Leigh is a go-to romantic suspense author for me. She knows exactly how much to share without making it to romantic. There is enough romance for my heart go pitter patter a little but it never gets entirely mushy. Of course, the suspense is phenomenal. The suspense is definitely what kept me entertained and turning page after page needing to know what would happen.

What I've Done was a suspense thriller that I could not put down! Melinda Leigh is a go to author when I need a good mystery/suspense book. I get so caught up with her characters that I can feel their emotions down to my bones. Some are good, and some are just plain bad. (This is still a good thing for the reader.) You want to be able to place your self in these characters world. The story line was chilling and my wide eyes could not read fast enough to find out the truth at the end. I needed a change of my reading pace and What I've Done took me out of that reader slump. I am back into this genre and I will be keeping my eye out for more to come from Melinda Leigh. The characters were amazing and you grow to love them!

Everyone's favorite defense attorney is back in another romantic mystery from Melinda Leigh. In What I've Done, Morgan Dane is once again tasked with the impossible. Her new client is arrested for murder with no memory of the night she spent with the victim. The prosecution is piling up evidence, so with the help of PIs Lincoln Sharp and Lance Kruger Morgan has to find the truth before it's too late. After the shocking outcome of Bones Don't Lie, I wondered how this series would continue. What I've Done is just as compelling a mystery as the previous story and even ends with a surprise. What I appreciated about this story is that there were so many possibilities to explain what happened the night Haley went home with Noah and woke up covered in blood. It seemed like the only reasonable explanation had to be something out of the box and complicated, but the truth will make you wonder how you missed it. Morgan has come along way from the grieving widow of Say You're Sorry. Her heart has healed and made room for a love she never thought she'd find again. Lance has even shown growth in his character, but one things remains true: he will protect Morgan at every turn. I love how their relationship has blossomed even under the stress of investigation and danger. Morgan's determination to make sure her clients are protected from injustice is only part of why I keep coming back to this series. I'm so eager for the next chapter in her story and the next compelling mystery from Melinda Leigh! *ARC provided in consideration for review*

This was my favorite book in the series. I love Morgan, Lance and Sharp. So many horrible crimes seem to happen in their small town. I hoping their might be a love interest for Sharp soon. She's a perfect match for his love of all that is healthy. Morgan finds herself defending Haley, a young lady being accused of murder. Haley also happens to be the daughter of Sharp's partner who was killed in the line of duty. Haley woke up covered in blood and finds the guy she went home with outside---DEAD!! Haley has no memory of the previous night. Morgan, Lance and Sharp start doing what they do best and begin digging into the murder mystery. They question possible suspects and try to figure out what really happened. Someone doesn't want them to figure out the truth, which leads them to being shot at, attacked and having to survive house fires. The book is full of suspense and creepy psycho people to keep you guessing on who really committed the crime. There are many twist and turns. I wasn't sure who was going to end up being the killer, but I did get some bad vibes off of Piper. Her reaction about Haley and the knife skills she displayed with the chicken gave me the creeps. Besides a mystery to solve, there's always a bit of romance with Lance and Morgan. I see Morgan, Lance and Sharp having a long career with so many innocent people in their town constantly being arrested for horrible crimes. I definitely recommend the book. I can't wait to read the next one!!! Thanks to NetGalley, Montlake Romance and the author, Melinda Leigh, for a free electronic ARC of this novel.

NUMBER OF HEARTS: 4 1/2 Waking up covered in blood, finding a dead body on the back porch and you are the only one in the house was not how Haley Powell wanted to start her day. But there is no way she could have done this.... Is there? Or did Haley Powell just commit murder? It is a good thing Morgan, Lance and Sharp were on this case and not me. I was so wrong on who I thought the killer was. There are a lot of moving parts in this story line and it keep me on my toes. So many so that I really don’t want to give away anything. You will just have to pick up a copy of What I’ve Done and find out for yourself who done it!! I always enjoy reading Melinda’s books. She is able to great a world and storyline that always feels fresh and exciting. I am looking forward to the next installment in this series. Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley & Montlake Romance in exchange for an honest review. This review is my own opinion and not a paid review.

In this fourth Morgan Dane romantic thriller, we once again find Morgan and her boyfriend, P.I. Lance, working a case that has a connection to someone they know. The book opens with a young woman, Haley Powell, waking up with blood on her hands and feet, and a blood trail from the bedroom she is sleeping in through the hallway and to a dead body. She remembers nothing that happened after leaving a bar with the victim. We also learn about the death of Lincoln Sharp's partner years earlier when he was a cop. He promised his dying partner that he would take care of his family. Haley, is his daughter. Morgan was a former prosecutor but she is now on the other side of the courtroom taking on cases as a defense attorney. This book actually has her in court defending a man who has some issues with anger management, much to Morgan's detriment. Morgan is a tough as nails lead who is backed by her P.I. partners who are also very likable. She is also extremely smart, which balances the brawn from the men. The romance between Morgan and Lance has been a slow build over the previous books, kept in the background of some intense cases with plenty of action in the investigations. There’s just the right amount of questioning suspects, following clues and forensics to give it a realistic feel with some great twists and turns along the way. With every new case Morgan works with her former high school boyfriend turned P.I., Lance Kruger. What I’ve Done by Melinda Leigh is a great addition to the romantic suspenseful Morgan Dane series. Each book in the series features a new case to solve so they could be read as standalone however, there is a lot of character development and background that carries over book to book so I would recommend reading it in order. This is a wonderful series that I have breezed through as I can't wait to see what is next for this trio. I recommend it to lovers of mystery, crime, and romantic suspense.

Fast paced, never slowed down. Roller coaster of emotion from beginning to end. I love Morgan and Lance. I love the fact that Morgan is a strong independent women, mother, attorney. I want her to be my friend :) I love the relationship between Lance and Morgan. Every relationship between all family members is so relate-able. so understandable. Then the plot just knocks you on your butt, tangles you up as you search for the actual culprit right along with Morgan and Lance. I am ready for the next book, and whats up with "Lincoln" lol, where are we going? I highly recommend this to all. You don;t need to read the previous books, but why wouldn't you? Thank you Montlake, Thank you Net Galley and thank you Melinda Leigh!

Morgan has a messy case land in her lap in this 4th outing of the series. A person from Lincoln Sharp past begs for his help after her daughter his accused of a viscous murder. He in turn asks Morgan to represent her and she and Lance are in a race against time to prove her innocence even though all evidence points to her guilt. But the deeper they dig into things it becomes obvious that someone doesn't want them proving her innocence and everyone's life is suddenly becomes in danger. Full of suspense and harrowing moments. Also lots of character development in this one – one from a staple of the series and another from a surprising secondary character. This series gets better with each book. Can't wait to see what's next.

Thanks to #NetGalley and #MontlakeRomance for the ARC Leigh’s fourth book in the Morgan Dane series and she continues to do what she does best and surprise us. The book reads better as part of the series though it can be read as a stand-alone. I recommend reading the whole series as the characters will be severely under-developed without doing so. Their backstories truly make the whole story. A young woman wakes up groggy and with no memory of the previous night’s activities. She finds herself in a strange bed, naked, and covered in blood. When she contemplates leaving, she finds a man’s dead body, a man she may or may not have slept with the night before. All she can think is, "What have I done?!" When Morgan Dane decided to make the switch from the prosecutor’s bench to the defense’s side of the courtroom she did so with the premise of helping those wrongfully accused. Morgan is up against insurmountable evidence pointing to her next client being guilty. A client that she took on as a favor for her friend, Lincoln Sharp. With the help of her boyfriend and partner, Lance Kruger, Morgan and Lance work to piece together the night in question. However, as they get closer to the truth, both Morgan and Lance become targets themselves. Will they solve the mystery before its too late? In typical Leigh format, we are held in suspense until the very end. The romance factor in this book is a bit scaled back for her style of writing. However, as readers who have followed this series, we do get to see the relationship development aspect between Morgan and Lance play out which is a bit more satisfying. 4 stars. Nice, easy read.

I swore Melinda Leigh couldn't get any better and than I sit down and read book 4 in the Morgan Dane series and Wow! What I've Done is by far the best in the series and while you can read it as a stand alone because the author catches readers up fast to the previous books read the first 3 to understand what makes this book amazing! The author creates a a cast of characters that come to life as readers focus on Morgan and her future. The story takes readers on a mystery of Lincoln Sharps life before meeting Morgan as well as a promise that will have him hanging on to his life. From the quite moments to the heart pumping moments this story will have readers dying for more. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy of Melinda Leigh What I've Done.

This is the fourth title in the Morgan Dane thrillers. After a request from her long time P.I. friend Lincoln Sharp, Defense Attorney Morgan agrees to defend Haley Powell who has been charged with the murder of Noah Carter. After leaving a club the night before with Noah, Haley awoke the next morning in a strange house covered in blood. Haley suffers with Addison Disease and doesn’t remember anything. Could she have blacked out and not remember killing Noah? Did someone spike her drinks at the club the night before? Sharp along with Morgan’s significant other, P.I. Lance Kruger, begin to delve into the list of possible suspects. Someone doesn’t want them investigating as several attempts are made on their lives. As with every book that Ms. Leigh writes, the reader is pulled in to the incredible story line and characters. You could read this book as a standalone, but you would be missing so much of the past history between Morgan, her law enforcement family, Lance, Sharp and Morgan’s endearing three children, Sophie, Ava & Mia. There is danger, suspense, romance, mystery, and humor…everything you could ask for and more. I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to give an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)

Another amazing book by Melinda Leigh. Omg wow! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading this book and it was a hardship having to stop reading. Work and adult responsibilities got in the way of reading this book in one seating. Morgan, Lance and Sharp make a great team and with the help of a reporter were able to crack down and find the real killers and proof Hailey’s innocence. What I’ve Done was a really amazing, attention grabbing mystery and I can’t wait to read the next installment of the Morgan Dane’s series and read more of what is happening in Morgan’s life and about her engagement to Lance. ***Received this ARC by NetGalley as an exchange for an honest review.

WHAT I’VE DONE. Melinda Leigh. Montlake Pub Haley, wondering what happened, Piper’s birthday, she didn’t want to go.,2 drinks, and now where was she. They always watched each other’s back, but this didn’t feel normal. The smell and streaks of blood, she followed, and then Noah. Now in jail, her mother called in a favor, Sharpe, who has worked with Morgan. Sharpe, Lance and Morgan, give it there all, and no clues coming. Angry issue, rape charges that have been dropped. A case before, seemed to be the tie they were looking for. Threats, homes burnt, and for Haley the nightmares. Will they find the thread to connect it all, proved to be another of her books, you want to read straight thru. Given ARC by Net Galley and Montlake for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.

What I've Done is Book 4 of Melinda Leigh's Morgan Dane series. While the backstory does continue to build with each story in this series, the main plotline stands perfectly fine on its own. This story was one of the author's best yet in this series. Heart pounding, thrilling and definitely intense. My one question to the author though, how much more can these characters continue to endure? Wonder if in a future book these poor characters are going to seek out psychiatric help to overcome all the trauma they've endured in this series. Overall though, this was an amazing addition to the series and Melinda Leigh just keeps cranking out hit after hit. I can't wait to see what is in store for us (and those poor characters!) next!

What a Great Book !!! I loved taking the journey with Morgan and Lance to find the person who is committing murder in Randolph County. Just when I thought I knew who was to blame, things changed and new suspects creeped in. There are many twists and turns to this action packed story. I loved how I never really new what was going to happen next or who was to blame. Very well written with intriguing and well developed characters. I highly recommend What I've Done !!!

This is a heart pounding mystery that will have you on the edge of your seat and holding your breath with the dangers and exciting action that happens in this story. New characters and back stories add to the depth of the world and you really do fear for Morgan, Lance and Sharp’s lives in this book. It is a twisting, complex murder, mystery with so many suspects that you are not sure who the culprit is, and there is some great romance thrown in there too. This is a thrilling, cannot put it down book; the best in the series so far.
