About the Author

As a little girl I loved to create fantasy worlds and then give all my friends roles to play. Of course, I was always the heroine! Books have always been an escape for me and brought me so much pleasure, but it didn't occur to me that I could possibly be a writer for a living until I was in a career that was not my passion. One day, I decided I wanted to craft stories like the ones I loved, and with a great leap of faith I quit my day job and decided to try to make my dream come true. I discovered my passion, and I have never looked back. I feel incredibly blessed and fortunate that I have been able to make a career out of sharing the stories that are in my head! I write Scottish Medieval Romance, Regency Romance, and I have even written a Paranormal Romance book. And because I have the best readers in the world, I have hit the USA Today bestseller list several times.

Marsaili Campbell has been disliked and abused her entire life. Until a warrior shows her how beautiful she really is and what love can feel like; only to abandon her to face her family alone and leaving Marsaili with a burning hatred for his betrayal. A family that she is not really a part of. When Marsaili soon learns the truth of her father’s initial betrayal and the ultimate betrayal that threatened to consume her soul. Now knowing both truths, Marsaili sets out to recover the one thing she’d give her life for; even if it means betraying those who really care. Laird Callum Grant has spent the last few years trying to forget the woman who is etched in his soul and trying to repair the damage he inflicted upon his clan in breaking contracts to have her in his life, even when she was lost to him. With a new betrothal approaching that will go far in rebuilding his clan the one thing he thought he lost lands at his feet. Now Callum must decide if he’s willing to risk losing the safety of his clan or more of his heart. My oh my! Marsaili has the strength of a thousand warriors trying to recover so much of what she’s lost; even when she comes face to face with her past. While Callum’s struggles to do what is right versus what he wants shows a strength and a vulnerability. And the forces trying to prevent Marsaili and Callum from their hearts desire are truly the best evil that Julie Johnstone has written. For the last book in Ms. Johnstone’s Highlander Vows: Entangled Hearts series this is a superb piece of writing. It was a delight to see appearances from the characters in the other stories from the series; weaving the threads for a family series that is outstanding. While each book can be read as a standalone, you would be depriving yourself of some loving, heart wrenching stories by the talented Julie Johnstone.

The trail less traveled is nothing new from Marsaili Campbell, it’s a trail she knows well full of despair, heart ache, loneliness and being an unwanted pawn for a power-hungry father. She has spent a lifetime of making herself as invisible as possible to survive these harsh conditions she was born into. However, Callum Grant see the beautiful heartfelt girl underneath it all and the best part is, she the one that makes his heart skip a beat. Callum Grant has been handed his own amount of unthinkable burdens. He has a lot of responsibility on his shoulders and his decisions not only effect him but his whole clan. Callum life has been dictated by other people and for once he stands up and makes his own decisions, which aren’t in the clans best interest and pungence them into war they cannot win. Through all of these lies and decisions two peoples lives are decided, taking them on a path they did not choose, but must now travel. Their journey won’t be an easy one but one that must now be undertaken for the faith of not just for themselves but for all involved. Through lies, heartache and war, can these two hearts learn to beat for each other again.... I loved the book, read it in one afternoon. I just couldn’t put it down. Julie has done it again with another amazing story. An absolute must pay. Happy reading y’all.

Marsaili Campbell’s father is gathering his friends and others to take the Scottish throne from King David and give it to Robert Stewart, David’s greedy nephew. He plans to have his son “accidently” wound the married Earl of Ulster and Marsaili will treat his wound and he will want her. She tries to talk him out of this with no luck. Callum Grant stopped at the Gordon’s on the way to the Campbell gathering. He discovers his intended wife naked in the stable hand’s arms and calls off their wedding. During the hunt at the gathering he meets Marsaili. He is attracted to her and knows she is meant for him. They meet outside the castle and, at her wish, they make love. He goes to his home to tell his parents he plans to marry her but never returns. I do not want to spoil the rest of this wonderful love story. Marsaili and Callum go through so many up and downs in their lives before they meet again. But when they do, their love for each other is still true. There are also wonderful secondary characters that add so much to this story. I have read and loved all the books in this series and can highly recommend them, especially this book. It is definitely a keeper.

Julie Johnstone. 1358 Scotland. Highlander. Need I say more? Another wonderful addition to the Highlander Vows series!! Finally Callum and Marsali's story with love at first sight when they first met. But they were soon pulled apart by their family and some total misunderstandings. Marsali's life after that was anything but good. She is betrayed by her father and only wanting to recover what he stole from her, she is kidnapped and wagered away. Can things get any worse? But as fate would have it, she now needs Callum to help her escape. Callum had believed her dead and had betrothed himself to another in order to secure his clan's future. But their strong bond cannot be denied. This author always grabs my heart and takes me on an amazing journey with her wonderful characters and descriptions. Although this story is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone. But trust me, you want to read them all and prepare to be memorized by each book!! Lori Dykes

Great love story! Marsaili and Callum went through many obstacles to be together. Among lies, deception, betrayals, and danger this couple found a way to fight adversity and be united again. This is a story that will keep you awake waiting to read what will happen next. Enjoy!

Medieval Romance is one of my favorite sub-genres and Julie Johnstone has become one of my favorite authors writing in this era. The books in her Highlander Vows:Entangled Hearts series are filled with intrigue, adventure, and deep emotion and When a Scot Gives His Heart is no exception. Fans of the series who have followed Marsaili's journey will be happy to learn more about her past and what has motivated her actions in previous books while readers new to the series should have no trouble reading this book as a standalone. I've been intrigued with Marsaili since she was first introduced and have enjoyed watching the evolution of her character. Callum, on the other hand, is a new character but Johnstone takes time to give him the depth and complexity I've come to expect in her characters. I both ached for him and cheered for him. I liked Callum and Marsaili both individually and as a couple and was deeply invested in their journey and their happiness. They are honorable characters faced with potentially heartbreaking circumstances. As with previous books in this series, both the hero and heroine are presented with difficult, life-altering challenges and decisions and given no easy answers by the author. But, for me, that makes the book more interesting and the conclusion that much more satisfying. When a Scot Gives His Heart has my enthusiastic recommendation. 4.5/5 stars

Leave it to me to arrive late to the party! This is the seventh book in the Highlander Vows: Entangled Hearts series and I'm starting the series backwards. Even though this can be read as a standalone, I wish I read the series from the start because it would have helped me with the understanding the dynamic of all the characters in this story. Regardless, I did enjoy the story. How could I not with all that Scottish testosterone, kilts and a lot of brogue. But it's the characters of Marsaili and Callum that made this story interesting and entertaining for me. I really was rooting for them from the start. Both characters were richly written and no matter the betrayals and conniving families, the journey they endured was worth it and I was glad to witness it. I hope you decide to take this journey with them as well. Melanie for b2b Gift ARC provided by the publisher

Another Great By Julie Johnstone!! When A Scot Gives His Heart is book 7 in the Highland Vows: Entangled Hearts series. Julie never disappoints and this book is no exception! She has a way of drawing you into her stories and characters. You feel as though you have traveled back to 1358 Scotland. This original story is just amazing and does have a surprise ending. What I loved most about this story is that through the heart break there is still a HEA. I found this to be very emotional and I loved every minute, from the first page to the very last. Though this is part of a series it can be read as a standalone. This story has deception, evil, misunderstandings, lies, loneliness, mistrust, kindness, acceptance, battles, abuse, cruelty, death, guilt, attempted murder, broken promises and a love that is everlasting. If you have never read a Julie Johnstone book you are truly missing out. I can’t say enough about it. It is a must read if you love historical highland stories. Travel back to 1358 Scotland with Lady Marsaili Campbell and Laird Callum Grant on a journey like no other. ***This book was gifted to me and I am voluntarily reviewing.

When a Scot Gives His Heart by Julie Johnstone is Book Seven in Highlander Vows: Entangled Hearts Series. This is the story of Marsaili Campbell and Callum Grant. I have read the previous books but feel you can make this a standalone book. Marsaili and Callum feel in love but that love was pulled apart by family. Marsaili fought to move past her feelings and the hurt that Callum caused the last few years. Besides the broken heart she is dealing with a evil father and trying to get back all that he has done. But she is caught and it looks like the only one to save her is Callum. Callum too was hurt but he thought Marsaili had past away but he has moved forward to help his clan by being engaged to someone else. Marsaili and Callum end up going through so much to get to their ending. Another exciting read by Ms. Johnstone...loved this second chance at love story.

You can read this book as a stand alone but this series is one not to be missed. Each book I have read was a five star (and more) emotional experience. At a time when a woman's value is what she can provide or do for her father or husband, there are still very strong women who find themselves in situations unexpected. Love exists must yet prove stronger than convention and circumstances. Laird Callum Grant thought the love of his life (and lust of his groin) is lost to him forever. He enters into a betrothal to secure his clan's future and is dedicated to honoring his word, until the woman he believed dead needs his assistance. Marsaili also has a secret that could destroy their destiny together. The words transport me back to 1358 Scotland. I loved the descriptions and the language. There are entangled themes and plots and alliances so much better than any contived "reality television" story. Deception and duty do their best to keep this couple from their HEA.

When a Scot Gives His Heart is book 7 of this fantastic series. It can be read as a standalone or enhance each book by reading them in order. I think I say this about all of Julie Johnstones novel, but she builds her worlds and her characters with such precision I swear I could almost experience them. I enjoyed this book immensely with its deceit, romance, the second chance, and character growth. These characters are captivating. Callum captured my attention pretty fast. And when Marsaili is close by the fireworks! These two can certainly set off some crazy heat. The plot was engaging and I just didn't want to set it aside. I enjoyed Callum and Marsaili's journey. I definitely recommend it.

When a Scot Gives His Heart by Julie Johnstone is an incredibly exciting Scottish Romance. While, book #7, in THE HIGHLANDER VOWS: ENTANGLED HEARTS series, it can be read as a stand. Set in 1358 Scotland, I was thoroughly invested in Callum Grant and Marsaili Campbell's  story from begging to end. Their story lingered long after the last page. Filled with romance, danger, excitement, treachery,  betrayal, continued threats, death defying struggles and passionate encounters,  kept me turning pages all through the night. A few moments of heart stopping incidents kept me emotionally invested in Callum and Marsaili's story. Loved how their story continued to evolve. Another must read by Julie Johnstone! I always know when I pick up one of her books, I'll not only be entertained,  entangled and emotionally invested, but will also have a few hours of complete and utterly satisfying moments of another era and time. A not to miss Medieval Scottish Romance!! Highly recommended for of fans Medieval Romance, Scotland, historical romance and fast paced, well written stories. The first two books in this series were pretty good but this one and the previous one have completely ridiculous plots. There are just too many characters and plot twists that are thrown in in a superficial way. Reads like a low budget movie script.
