When Are You Coming Home?
When Are You Coming Home? Blanche and Al's Love Story is a very personal account of how my parent's experienced the closing months of World War II through the love letters my Mother wrote my Dad from August of 1945 until April of 1946. Her 83 letters were discovered in my Dad's old army bag which we found while we were cleaning out my parent's house after my Mother Blanche had passed away in 2016. The very first letter begins with my Mom's impressions of what it was like to hear the news of World War II ending in her little world of Hamtramck, Michigan which was the predominantly Polish neighborhood of Detroit, Michigan. My Mom Blanche wrote my Dad Al faithfully almost every day in the anticipation of his return to their village of Kinde, Michigan nestled in the thumb area of Michigan. Her words echo the uncertainty of her times and her experiences speak to this modern age of what the power of faith, love, perserverance, commitment, and unbridled patriotism can mean. Blanche and Al's journey is the sweet story of two young souls in love and caught up in the history of World War II as it triumphantly draws to a conclusion.

About the Author

Author Kathleen Asselin resides six months of the year on the shores of Lake St. Clair in New Baltimore, Michigan and winters in sunny Delray Beach, Florida with her best friend and husband, Dennis. Kathleen has both a Bachelor’s and Master's Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan.

Kathleen grew up in East Detroit, Michigan and lived in the same house on the corner of Schroeder and Semrau with Blanche and Al. In 1976, she moved to Chicago for her job as a flight attendant for Trans World Airlines. In 1986, she moved on to work for American Airlines until she retired in 2010. Kathleen called Chicago home and raised her daughter Emily there until Emily was six years old. Kathleen then married Dennis Asselin in 1996 and they moved back to Michigan. Dennis has two daughters, Marie and Julie, from a previous marriage. Kathleen and Dennis have managed to blend all their daughters into a beautiful family, which now includes Marie's daughter Brooklyn and Julie's son Trevor and daughter Alexis and are joyfully anticipating a new grandson to be born in the spring.

When Are You Coming Home? Blanche and Al’s Love Story is Asselin’s first book.
