Overview

When His Kiss Is Wicked by Kaitlin O'Riley

After her father's death, Colette Hamilton is left with four sisters, an invalid mother and a failing bookshop. The only way she can save the family business is with her unconventional ideas. . .or let her uncle marry her off. As for the handsome stranger in her bookshop? He's Lucien Sinclair, son of an earl, and a known rogue uninterested in marriage.

Unknown to Colette, Lucien has begun an urgent search for a bride, so that his ailing father might see him married before he dies. He knows what he wants—a plain, biddable woman without the curse of beauty to endanger his heart. Yet no matter how he tries, Lucien finds himself unable to stay away from Colette. And as sinful pleasure lures them ever closer to the edge of ruin, the only question that matters is whether they can survive the fall. . .

I read a lot. This book had a large variety of charming, well developed characters that you grow to care about. The author wove a wonderful tapestry of a story that is rich and satisfying. I was suprised i loved this book so much. I laughed and teared up a bit. A MUST!

With the death of her father, Colette Hamilton takes over running the family bookstore in which she supports her mom and four sisters. However, her uncle and mother are appalled with her working as they want her to marry wealth and sell the shop; Colette prefers work over marriage. In 1870 an earl, Lord Lucien Waverley stops at the bookstore to buy books for his father. He and the shopkeeper are attracted to one another as he begins to understand the adage "You can't judge a book by its cover" and she "The family that plays together". However, though they see each other at social events, their potential courtship is derailed over a philosophical difference about whether women should be allowed to own and run a store as he wants a throwback to the Regency era and she reminds him of who runs the empire. The strong gender war over the role of women in Victorian society makes for an amusing, entertaining yet profound historical story. The story line is fast-paced from the moment the beloved enemy combatants meet in her family bookstore and never slows down as they fall in love while debating whether women should be allowed in business. Sub-genre fans will relish the first Hamilton sister tale and look forward to more engaging mid nineteenth century romances. Harriet Klausner

Simply amazing! I couldn't stop reading and spent countless hours enticed by the story of Colette. An independent woman in a society that actually looks down on her for wanting to be her own person, and a man fearful of her for being herself... Ah, I loved it! Lucien is so charming and real, and Colette makes you want to cheer for her to win Lucien's heart. Definitely one of my favorite reads.

And his is! Kaitlin O’Riley has created a new series in which her characters, (five sisters!) are bound by the family business and what better business for an author’s characters to be bound to than a bookstore! Book one in her Hamilton Sisters series When His Kiss is Wicked is sure to please! Hamilton’s Book Shoppe found in the Mayfair district of London owned by Thomas Hamilton whose love for books was the utmost focus in his life above, even, the love of his beautiful French wife and his five daughters. Collette Hamilton, the eldest of the five Hamilton sisters also loved the book shoppe just as much as her father did and as such, spent her childhood years working there training to one-day run it herself. Collette had constantly presented ideas of improvement to her father, which while he listened earnestly, chose to take none of them into consideration. However, at the passing of her father six months ago, Collette is now in control of the shoppe and the changes she feels will make it even more of a success. First on her list of changes is a full on reorganization, which includes an all out cleaning! In the midst of doing just that a chance encounter with Lucien Sinclair the Earl of Waverly, who was once an occasional customer in previous years will further set the fiery Collette forward on her mission to prove a woman can run a business without the influence (and oversight), of a man! Collette’s response to the incredulous remarks made by the lofty Lord that such a thing could not be possible (or taken seriously for that matter) takes Lucien aback as she replies, “You are aware that a woman is running our country, are you not?” Knowing that the beautiful young woman before him could not possibly contain the level of confidence she seems to exude (and the superior attitude to match), Lucien decides to put her to the test however, in doing so fears he may have awakened something within himself not found in any book! A story filled with characters that will capture your attention from their initial introduction, teamed with the glimpses of their past which Kaitlin provides along with the high-spirited banter will keep you constantly turning the pages! The Hamilton Sisters series is a regency romance that you will most certainly want to continue reading!
