From the very beginning, we¿re hooked. Someone wants to kill the Prince Regent, and he¿s called England¿s top spy back from Portugal to investigate. There¿s only one problem. Captain Jack Dryden, the second son of a country squire, has no ties to the ton. So, the Regent throws him together with Daphne Chalmers, a plain, but well-connected spinster. Her society connections are impeccable, and she doesn¿t gossip. She¿s the soul of discretion. This is not the usual stiff Regency romance. The heat builds relentlessly between two unlikely characters. The handsome spy, whom she refers to as Captain Sublime in private, makes an unlikely proposal. They should pretend to be engaged to explain time spent together while they search throughout the ton for likely assassins. The older, on-the-shelf sister of the wife of the regent¿s cousin, Daphne scoffs at the idea of passing herself off as his fiancé. He convinces her no one will question why a penniless young gentleman would want to ally himself with the daughter of a wealthy earl. In spite of realizing a liaison between them cannot be, these two improbable lovers lose their hearts to each other. The romance fairly sizzles off the page as the two succumb to a relationship based on honesty and passion.

Spies, plots to kill the regent and his daughter and mysteries galore set among the "ton." Will Captain Dryden maintain his personal honor while spying on the lives of the decatant ton to protect the regent? Has Lady Daphne - uniquely funny, friend to all, but besotted with none - finally met her "noble" match? Truly enjoyable read.

The sarcastic type of humor was annoying and both characters unbelievably superior, I could not torture myself any further with this one

Cheryl Bolen's book With His Ladies Assistance is the 1st book of her new "Regent Mysteries". It is filled with adventure, mystery, history & love. Mixed with fictional charachters and actual people who existed in history, I could not put the book down. I loved this great read and am looking forward to the next - book 2 in this series. I would recommend "With His Lady's Assistance" to anyone!

The suspense aspect was good. I did not guess who were behind the assassination attempts. The middle was slower, but the end was fast paced. Overall a great mystery that will keep you guessing. As far as characters go, I hated how snobbish Daphne was. I agree with another reviewer that I didn't like her attitude on cheating. I am glad Jack helped change her view on cheating, where at the end she was ashamed of her class's views. I loved Jack's character. He has morals, was humble, and dashing. I'm glad it was a HEA.

A very slow read. The 2 main characters were not believable. The ending was a bit of a let down.

With His Lady's Assistance is a phenomenal historical romance by Cheryl Bolen. Ms. Bolen has delivered a well-written book. The characters are outstanding, I love them. Jack has been called by from the war to find the person trying to kill the prince. Daphne is a spinster that knows everyone and she is secretly helping Jack. Their story is loaded with drama, action, humor, suspense and of course, spice. This book held me captive from the first page to the last and I look forward to my next book by Cheryl Bolen. With His Lady's Assistance is book 1 of The Regent Mysteries Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

What a perfectly wonderful story, with a brilliant heroine, a dashing hero, and dastardly villains. I couldn't put the book down, relishing each scene and moment. I've got to read the next book to see if it is as engaging!

I didn't know what to expect as this was the first book I've read of Cheryl Bolen. I loved the character development, the antagonism between Daphne and "Mr. Rich", the developing relationship between the two and the plot. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

This was one of those stories you can't put down. This was the first time I remember reading a mystery by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

So didn't! Couldn't stomach Daphne. She was indifferent to her sisters tears when she found out her husband was having an affair. Chided her for acting low class because she cared. Was blase that her father had mistresses and probably several illegitimate children. She did feel bad that Jack was of a lower class then her and therefore they had no future. After all she was an Earls daughter. And he was a lowly second son of a country squire. Oh and a gallant army officer. Isn't that where true love is supposed to come in? Frankly she was a snobby elitist who thought morality was something practiced by the lower classes. She called Jack stodgy because he had a moral backbone. She felt bad for him because he was her social inferior. I hate to not finish a book but I finally gave up at page 144. I'm sure they had a happy ending but believe me Jack got the short end of the stick.
