Overview

Emperor Wray Vasteri is the ruler of the Tornian Empire. His House has ruled the Empire ever since the Great Infection, which struck over five hundred years ago, and he fears he will be the last. The number of compatible females is dwindling faster than anyone anticipated. If they can’t find compatible females soon, their entire civilization will cease to exist. It is the reason he agreed to meet with Liron, the Emperor of the Kaliszian Empire, in Kaliszian space. It is the only reason they had crossed paths with a Ganglian ship leaving Tornian space, and it is the only reason they discovered the small female.

Wray found himself drawn to the small female he found beaten and abused on the Ganglian ship. She resembled a Tornian female but was much smaller. Could she be what he was searching for?

Kim Teel had a hard life, at least she thought she had until her parents died suddenly, and her sister and brother-in-law disappeared. At nineteen, she realized she had been protected from all of life’s hardships. She had been cared for and loved her entire life, and had come to expect it, she was terribly spoiled. Determined to change her ways, Kim went looking for her sister, only to be captured by the Ganglians. It was then she learned what happened to the ‘unprotected’ females of the universe.

Wray and Kim are both doing the same thing, trying to survive. What they find is that there are more important things than just survival. Once they learn that, the universe changes forever.

I enjoyed this book, although it was a little strange to be reading it after Grim, since it takes place chronologically first. These are sweet stories with likable characters, nothing really out of the ordinary but a quick, enjoyable read. However, the lack of careful proofreading, leaving many typographical and grammatical errors behind, is extremely annoying. It makes me feel as though the author doesn't care enough about these books to work a little harder on making them more readable by correcting these errors. I also find it jarring that the author seems to see nothing wrong with switching from past to present tense in the same sentence.

This is an awesome book. It is now on my re-read list. Kim is a strong character full of life and wisdom, even for one so young. I cant wait for Tora's book. Can't wait for the next book. Nikki Mann

I have two ratings for Wray; first and foremost, I purchased this as an Audiobook, and I want it to be known that is was, by far, one of the most entertaining audiobooks I have ever listened to! With all of different narrators voicing the different characters, it reminded me of listening to AM radio mystery theater, back when I was a kid coming home on long drives. There was the background noise like actually being in the spaceships, or hearing waterfalls and then just general sound effects, like swards crashing together, it was totally awesome! I have never encountered an audiobook that did this, and I had so much fun! I am hoping the others in the series do the same! Also, all the narrator did a tremendous job of bringing their characters to life, I loved it! Now for the actual story, I am just so frustrated with Tornians as a whole. They are supposed to revere women, and treat them as treasures. Yet a lot of their actions are so contradictory, but that’s the kicker you see, they only see Tornian females, as women worthy of being treasured. Oh the fools! Wray stumbles upon Kim, who was kidnapped by another species, the Ganglian, who have horribly abused her for weeks. Wray being an honorable man/Tornian, whatever, rescues Kim and in the processes of taking her back to his ship, they crash on a planet and are stranded there for days. That is where Wray and Kim fall in love, naturally with these types of stories. I liked Kim, she was strong, and took on everything dished out to her better than most would; especially, the attack. That’s why I think her running into Wrays arms so soon is far-fetched, but then who am I kidding right? This is a 7’ tall alien I’m talking about, hello fiction much! Overall I liked the story, and I am looking forward to seeing where it goes next. I hope the next one is another Audiobook, narrated like this one! The story gets a 4 and the audio book a 5; 4.5 stars....Sara

Reviewed by Suzanne and posted at Under The Covers Book Blog In the first book in the series, we meet Grim and Lisa, in this book we jump back in time a few months and see how the Emperor, Wray, met Kim the human woman who changed everything, leading to the events in the first book. Kim is barely hanging on to life, she doesn’t know how long it has been to the ugly, smelly, hairy aliens have taken her, but all she can feel is the cold and the pain. That is until Wray saves her and starts to take care of her. Despite all she has endured she can’t help but fall for the big tough warrior, who shows her only care and gentleness. But, his world is vastly different to hers, females are in short supply and are segregated from the men, only interacting with males when they “Join” and hopefully produce offspring. Lisa refuses to be treated like a cold and uncaring Tornian female much to Wray’s delight and dismay… how will his people react when he brings the beautiful yet completely different Kim back to Torino? I’m reviewing this after having a reread of the series, I was really missing my over-protection, unbearably sweet, yet clueless Tornian males so I decided to get my fix by read the series again whilst I wait for another book to be brought out. Does this book make me wish I could get abducted and be used as a Tornian brides? Why yes, yes it does. So, I admit, these aren’t the greatest books in the world, aside from the occasional spelling or grammar error, some of the story has plot holes miles wild and the world doesn’t entirely make sense. Does that stop me from enjoying this book? Not one tiny bit. What I love about this series is the romance, as over the top sweet as it is, there is something about my sexy alien warriors adoring their females that tugs me back for more. This will definitely not be for everyone, but this series is a not-so-guilty pleasure for me, and I will continue waiting with baited breath for the next book to come out!

This book is everything a scifi romance should be. Fully developed characters and universe with plenty of intrigue. I will definately be purchasing all of this authors books.

This was an enjoyable book. I liked the character development and the fact that the main characters had depth to them. They learned from their mistakes and were a cute couple.

This is an excellent story that draws you right in from the first. Although the book is Grimm, I do think I enjoyed the series more reading this book first. The story is a wonderful tale about a women stolen from Earth and the man/alien who rescues her. This author does a good job of bringing you into the story and caring about the character as they learn from each other. A great book that I recommend to any who like S.E. Smith stories.
