About the Author

Sammy Lee Davis received the Medal of Honor in 1968 for his actions during the Vietnamese attack on Support Base Cudgel. He also received the Silver Star and the Purple Heart, was named one of Newsweek's 100 Unsung Heroes, and received the Joe Foss Institute's annual award, among many other distinctions.

Caroline Lambert is a freelance writer and award-winning former journalist. While a staff writer and then Johannesburg bureau chief for the Economist, she reported from Afghanistan, Sierra Leone, and Zimbabwe. She is coauthor of Oil to Cash: Fighting the Resource Curse through Cash Transfers.

Joe Barrett has been a working stage, screen, and recording booth actor since 1974 and an award-winning and eight-time Audie Award-nominated audiobook narrator since 1999. He also practiced law for five years-but don't hold that against him. Joe is married to actress Andrea Wright, and together they have four children.

I spent 10 months in the Tonkin Gulf 72-73. I’m proud to have served my country. Thank you Sammy for sharing your story. Thank you Caroline for your talent in writing. Blessings to you both.

I am always interested in reading anything written about Vietnam and the stories of those who were there. I was in my late teen and early twenties at that time . I feel that those who served there and those who gave their lives are all heroes and I thank all of you and will never forget you. God Bless
