Meet the Author

At the age of 26, Abel Keogh unexpectedly found himself a young widower. When he decided to starting dating again he looked in vain for resources that could help him guide him through the dating waters and open his heart to someone else. He found nothing. As he began blogging about his experiences, women dating widowers began emailing him asking for his thought on their situations. As the numbers of emails increased, Abel started writing his own dating a widower advice column. In Dating a Widower Abel shares the knowledge he’s learned from his own experience and the most common issues he’s seen from hundreds of emails from women dating widowers.

Abel is also the author of the memoir Room for Two—the story of the year of his life following his late wife’s suicide—and the novel The Third. He and his wife Julianna are the parents of three boys and two girls.

Quick read, great advise if you decide to date a widower. Very very helpful.

This is a very enlightening book since it is written by a widower. It is from a man's point of view and great advise for a woman who is thinking about dating a widower. Being a recent widow and thinking about dating after 37 years of marriage to a wonderful man is very scary. Some of the feelings the author shares are what I feel too. Men do think different than women though. As a women beginning the dating process again is like a dance. The Hokey Pokey. You put your whole self in or you put your whole self out. Men on the other hand I am finding like to square dance. They like to change partners and dosey doe. That is not what it is all about. I would highly recommend this book as it is very helpful in understanding a man's thought process after the loss of his wife. God help us all. LOL...Laugh Out Loud.

    Good advice, but...

I really enjoyed reading this book. I felt that the author was candid and wrote in a style that was easy to read. Several books I've read have had a more scientific approach, that required serious study more than casual reading, but Mr. Keogh writes in a conversational style that sets you at ease even though the subject matter is serious. I am dating a widower. I obviously don't know how it will end up yet, but I do feel more equipped to recognize "red flags" and understand where he's coming from than I would have been prior to reading this book. My only caution is that every person and situation is different. So, while the author provides interesting examples, I feel like a person in my situation needs to be careful of taking a one size fits all approach. The man I'm dating is not a character in the book, so I need to be careful to not expect the same result, good or bad, that was shown in the book - just because it may seem he shares similarites or attributes. I do think this book is helpful. I felt much more informed about dating a widower after reading it. Just my opinions... Good luck to anyone out there thinking about and/or dating a widower. It's definitely not easy, but it has been good for me so far... Here's hoping it stays that way! :)
