6 Stylish Books for Your Aspiring Fashionista
As a writer who works from home, my overall style now involves some variation of yoga pants, a comfy t-shirt, and if I’m lucky, a cute pair of flats. I don’t have many people to impress from 9-5 aside from my cat Cleo, and she’s pretty nonjudgmental. But there was one point in my life when I fancied myself a bit of a fashionista. I have always loved to read and write about stylish heroines, and covet the styles of old Hollywood actresses like Audrey Hepburn and Elizabeth Taylor. So in the spirit of glamour and glitz, here are 6 stylish books to satisfy the discerning tastes of an aspiring fashionista.

Fashion Frenzy (Frankly, Frannie Series), by A.J. Stern
As a kid, one of my favorite things to do was “play office.” (Oh, if only I had known how many years I’d actually have to play this game…) But that’s why I love the Frankly, Frannie series by A.J. Stern, whose main character Frannie Miller, loves to turn anything into an office job. (Frannie goes from waitress, to vet, to radio host along the way.) This sixth book in the series takes place at a mother-daughter fashion show. Ever the worker bee, Frannie finds the role of model not quite suited to her industrious personality, but maybe a career as a fashion designer is in her future?
Tyra The Designer Fairy (Rainbow Magic: Fashion Series #3) By Daisy Meadows
If you want a more fantastical and magical take on the fashion theme, Tyra the Designer Fairy is the perfect book for you! This is the third book in the Rainbow Magic: Fashion Series (others stylish titles include: Claudia the Accessories Fairy and Alexa the Fashion Reporter Fairy). In this fun book for young readers, friends Kristy Tate and Rachel Walker are psyched to enter the design competition at theTippington Fountains Shopping Center. Kristy is going to make a dress from scarves, and Rachel is going to bedazzle some old jeans. But when the fashion averse villain Jack Frost steals Tyra’s magic measuring tape, everything goes haywire. You’ll have to read the book to see if Rachel and Kristy can get the measuring tape back, and if style triumphs over evil in this cute illustrated tale.
Sticker Dolly Dressing Fashion Long Ago, by Lucy Bowman, Louie Stowell, and Stella Baggott
As the kind of kid who would get sticker books and then not use them, because I wanted to keep them “nice”, this is a sticker book even I would have put to good use. (Or, get two copies of, so I could have one to play with and one to display.) Dress up these girls with fashion stickers from throughout the ages, from Marie Antoinette court gowns to Ancient Rome togas, to swinging sixties mod outfits. Your fashion-obsessed kids may even learn a bit about history in the process through these fun colorful garments and accessories.

The stylish especially love pretty packaging, and this boxed set of the first 1-4 Sew Zoey books is definitely a looker—and it comes with a fashion-themed charm bracelet. What fashionista wouldn’t like a little bling with their books? A perfect series for any reader who’s shown an interest in stepping outside the mall and sewing their own clothes. When Zoey Webber no longer needs to wear a uniform to school, this crafty fashionista decides to sew her own designs and start a fashion blog. Not bad for an extracurricular activity!
Fancy Nancy, by Jane O’Connor and Robin Preiss Glasser
Daaaahling, this list of glamorous books would certainly not be complete without an appearance by Fancy Nancy! A little diva who at this point, needs no introduction, Nancy is the perfect heroine for any child who likes to dress up and make the world a little more fabulous in the process. A whimsical read that even parents will enjoy, Fancy Nancy tells the story of a young girl who dreams of a life less ordinary. “Sandwiches definitely taste better when you stick in frilly toothpicks.” Nancy, I couldn’t agree more.
