Cecilia Lockhart was left penniless and alone in Paris when her military husband died in a duel. She has found a unique way to support herself but her life is very lonely. When she meets Oliver Gregory by chance, she finds herself entranced and she cannot resist sharing one beautiful night with him. Oliver enjoys the night as well and is unable to forget Cecilia and that amazing night. He wonders where she is. He is surprised to discover her working in his own club, a discrete gentleman’s club in London. When he learns she is pregnant, Oliver is determined to have her as his wife. He knows the pain of being an outcast and does not wish that on his own child. Diane Gaston’s book are always enjoyable as they go places we do not often go. It was very hard for a woman without a man. Jobs were limited and often left the young woman vulnerable. Cecilia was clever as she derived her method of making a living without compromising her values. She let down her walls once and she wound up with an even bigger issue. For Oliver’s part, he had lived a tough life filled with prejudice for more than one reason. He rose above it but, understandably, had a hard time trusting. They made a great couple, but one had to take a chance. Which one will? Pick up A Pregnant Courtesan for the Rake and find out for yourself. You will be delighted as you get lost in the pages of this amazing book.
