Alive at 5 by Linda Bond may be her debut book but I couldn't tell it. I loved this book and had a hard time putting it down. Samantha Steele is a news reporter following a friend on an "adventure vacation". She is strong, independent and flawed. Zach Hunter is a cop taking time off from work to track down is uncle's murderer. He is all Alpha male, he is very good at his job and flawed. Linda's characters are well developed, the plot had so many twists that I never guessed who was behind all of the evil deeds. The secondary characters did well in supporting the H/h and the story. I kinda liked Sam's cameraman, George, because he added so much flavor to the adventures as he filmed Zack. The dialogue between Sam and Zack was believable and sometimes humorous as they both wanted to control everything. They actually made a great team when they began to open up to each other. I am looking forward to more books from Linda Bond.

This was an exciting adventure with lots of twists and turns; cave diving, flying in a jet, murder and of course, solving several murders.

The plot is a bit predictable in this mystery romance. However, it is a well written, fun read. There is enough action to keep any Baldacci or Patterson fans happy and the love scenes are nothing short of erotic steaminess. Set in Florida, TV reporter Samantha follows am undercover cop as he tries to unravel the mystery of a loved one's death. Along the way, they both uncover a burning passion for justice and each other. Some of the scenes are amazingly realistic: what it's like for a civilian to ride in a F-16 fighter jet or how much effort is put into a live shot for television news. I am looking forward to Linda Bond's next novel.

I absolutely loved this book. The suspense and trying to figure out the who-dun-it and why just kept me reading. I wasn't sure about the book going in (it's the author's debut, I believe), but as usual, Entangled didn't let me down. Definitely worth the read and I WANT MORE! Book obtained through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Woo Hoo! What a Ride! As Editor-in-Chief of the Marketing for Romance Writers Newsletter, I get inside information on what’s coming out each month. Linda Bond was our Featured Author for August, 2014. One of the first things I noticed about Alive at 5 was the fact that Ms. Bond’s name appeared above the title. That’s rare enough for seasoned authors. You have to be a Tom Clancy, a James Patterson or a J. K. Rowling to get your name above the title. Most mid-list authors’ names stay firmly below their titles. Next, I tested the link for Ms. Bond’s website and found myself watching her book trailer. I thought I was pretty clever narrating mine. All of the other book trailers I’ve seen have simply been a collection of stock photos accompanied by music. Ms. Bond’s trailer is live, with actors, dialog, soundtrack music and even out-takes at the end. It helps to be an Emmy-winning broadcaster and have access to a news crew, equipment and video studio. All of that, however, means Ms. Bond has a really good agent and friends in the right places. So, you’ve got my attention. Can you write? Well, of course! You don’t get the kind of agent who gets your name above the title by writing a dull, slow-paced story with characters no one cares about! Alive at 5 lived up to its promise and then some. If it weren’t for the help of her mother’s former lover, Maxwell Wentworth, Samantha Steel would not be able to keep her mother in an expensive nursing home after a plane crash leaves her in a coma. Furthermore, if Maxwell hadn’t allowed Sam to accompany him on and cover his adventure vacation, she’d be out of a job. She’s had anxiety attacks every time she’s had to deliver a live broadcast ever since her mother’s accident. Covering Maxwell’s adventure vacation is her last chance—until his parachute fails to open in the first phase. When fellow vacationer, Zack tells her the chute’s been tampered with, Sam decides to follow him on the rest of his tour, and find out who tried to kill Maxwell and why, not realizing Zack is there to track the person who killed his uncle a year earlier on the same tour. Alive at 5 grabbed me on the first page and held my attention all the way through. I truly did not know who did it or why until Sam and Zack figured it out, and regular readers know how rarely that happens. I’m excited for Ms. Bond. I think we’ll see a lot more of her. I really hope so. Oh, and watch for the hunky actor in her book trailer elsewhere. He’s a soccer player in an Adidas commercial.

An absolutely edge-of-the seat read. Thrilling from the first page to the last. Frankly, I couldn't put Alive at 5 down and was disappointed when I had no more pages to read. At every turn of the page, danger and attraction sizzle between Sam and Zack. Linda Bond brought the pages alive. Riveting romance, mystery, and suspense in locations that come alive on the page. So much so, I lived the adventure. My heart is still pounding. Thumbs up. Alive at 5 is a definite recommended read. Believe me, you won't be disappointed. I just found a new favorite author.

Wow – this one was such an action-packed adventure! With lots of heat and steam between Samantha and Zack, and lots of mystery and intrigue around their investigation, this story moved quickly and had me entertained right from the start. From their first meeting you could just feel the tension and energy rolling off both Samantha and Zack, and when she convinces Zack to help her investigate the adventure vacation company with her, you just know things are going to heat up between these two. ********** His jaw dropped. “Blackmail? Really? Do you know the penalty for that if I really am a cop?” She snorted. “Extortion, actually. Well?” He snapped his jaw shut. He knew very well what would happen if the adventure vacation knew his real identity, and what his bosses would do if they found out he was still investigating this case after they’d specifically pulled him off it. Wow. She had him. He was impressed, and a little turned on. ************* As their investigation continues, Zack has to learn to trust and rely on someone other than himself. Still reeling from losing his partner and his uncle, Zack has decided that it’s easier to not let anyone in – that way you can’t be responsible for anyone but yourself. Carrying around the demons of his past has also left their scars, and constantly worrying about becoming the man his father was weighs heavy on Zack’s conscience. Samantha has her own issues she is carrying around. Abandoned by her father when she was young and now responsible for her sick mother and younger sister, all while trying to keep her job at the television station, has really taken its toll on her ability to give up control and let herself live a little. And when Zack Hunter enters her life, he pushes her boundaries like no one else has… but learning to trust doesn't come easy for Samantha. As Zack and Samantha finally give in to the attraction between them, their investigation starts to heat up and threatens to keep them apart – maybe even permanently if the killer has his way! This was a great read and I highly recommend this one to any romantic suspense fans. There was a great balance of romance, including some great heat and steam, with the suspense of the story. The writing was bit edgy and enhanced the feel of the story – you could actually feel yourself in the news story that was being investigated. All in all a great read! I received a copy of this book from the publisher for an honest review.

Completely entertaining and intriguing story. Lovers of romantic suspense will want to put this one on the top of the TBR pile! He's an undercover cop chasing a loved ones killer. She's a reporter chasing the story that will save her job. Working together they will track down the killer and hopefully come out alive! A great story that I highly recommend.
