The images created in the mind of a reader are harsh, intense, and violent. The story takes the mind to the dangerous and deadly road of hunting for a serial killer where no one is safe, where the target is clear, yet the culprit manages to outsmart the law, the best in the field to find the killers and solve the fatal situations. The story is riveting, it is nearly spellbinding in a way it wrapped itself around my mind making it unputdownable until the end was there, in the early morning hours when the culprits were caught, and I could breathe again. The suspense is savage and cruel. There are the Hannibal Lecter-moments that had me biting my nails, bringing the nightmarish atmosphere to the tale. There are those desperate moments when hunting for clues, the moments of knowing something to be true yet unable to prove it. I was mesmerized by the teamwork and the effort the characters put into the case, their dedication and determination were admirable. For the perfect balance for the ghoulish serial killer hunt, bringing a different kind of intensity to the stage was the lifelong relationship between Special Agent Paul Harrison and Abigail Winthrop. The chemistry between Paul and Abigail was palpable, yet the tension of the past mistakes, the hurt, and the secrets revealed are like a wall between the childhood friends. The budding romantic relationship has a solid foundation between the two who had most of their lives been the home, the safe place, to each other. Yet there were issues they needed to solve, to talk through, to heal from, forget and forgive. The attraction between them is as tangible as the connection they have. Being in each other's arms there is a fervent passion but also there are healing powers in the tender touch, in the hugs, and the kisses they share with each other in the middle of the mayhem and commotion. Could the emotions between them and churning inside of them been taken to another level, deeper depth to bring more angst to the tale - sure, but in my mind, the crimes of the serial killer were such vicious, heinous acts, the new state of the relationship between Paul and Abigail was the counterbalance I needed, just as it was, to be able to truly enjoy the story without taking me completely into a dark abyss of the turmoil. An alluring tale of two childhood friends who are in the middle of the turmoil with a serial killer on the loose and hunting for the next victim. The crimes are ghastly, violent, unimaginable, yet the tender, sweet, compelling attraction and deep emotion between the hero and the heroine bring the perfect balance to this intense, strong, and powerful romantic suspense story. I loved it, could not put it down until the end, the smoothly flowing, well-written tale just pulled me in and kept the hold. ~ Five Spoons
Be a Good Girl was a great suspense that I quickly read through, desperately trying to figure out who the killer was. With a closed case from so long ago, Abby and Paul know they have their work cut out for them and I enjoyed putting together the puzzle pieces even if most of my guesses were wrong. For the most part, this book is concentrated on the mystery and there's very little romance plot. I would have enjoyed a little bit more one-on-one time for Paul and Abby to bond and connect by sharing parts of their lives. For instance, in a previous book Paul had a harrowing experience with a serial killer and it's left him struggling with PTSD. Abby finds out about this experience through another person but her and Paul never actually talk about it themselves. It's been such a huge part of Paul's life and I wanted those emotional moments when two characters share their struggles. However, Abby and Paul's long history as friends helped connect their characters and make their love story more believable. They have a very rich history and both have been suppressing feelings for the other so that emotion is already there in the relationship. My favorite part of this book was probably Abby and I absolutely loved her dogged determination to find justice for Cass as well as to stop a vicious murderer. Abby refuses to let anything stand in her way, from Paul's protectiveness to her own fragile emotions where Cass is concerned. She knew going in that getting all the nitty gritty details of Cass's death was going to be exceptionally painful but she was willing to put herself through it to find the truth and make things right. One of Abby's greatest traits is her inner strength which is truly inspiring. This book is all about female empowerment and Paul's respect for all of the incredibly talented women he works with is wonderful to read. In fact, all of Tess Diamond's books have strong female leads that are supported by their male counterpoints. Paul himself is also very intelligent and a great FBI agent but I do feel like he took a bit of a backseat to the story and that this was really Abby's investigation throughout. That being said, Paul is an all-around great guy that you just genuinely like from the beginning. To help out with the investigation Paul brings in his forensic and tech expert Zooey and I could definitely tell that Dimond was setting her up to be the heroine of hopefully the next book. We get to see a little bit more into Zooey's history and how she ended up as an FBI agent, which was a fascinating story, but we also really got to see the young genius at work. I also have my guess for who her hero will be and we'll just say that if I'm right those two are definitely going to make sparks.
Be a Good Girl by Tess Diamond is another one of her exciting trademark romance suspense thrillers. Abby Winthrop, our heroine, is journalist who is writing a book that is close to her heart. 15 years ago, Abby’s best friend, Cass, was murdered by a serial killer, Doctor X, who is now in jail. Abby is determined to find the truth, having suspected that someone else was behind the death of her friend. When she talks to the evil egotistical Doctor X, Abby manages to get him to reveal a mistake that will prove he did not kill Cass. Paul Harrison, our hero, is an FBI agent, who also has never gotten over Cass’s death, as she was his girlfriend. When Paul goes home to visit family, he runs into Abby, and accidently sees her information board revealing her investigation into Cass’s death. At first he is appalled that Abby has not moved on, but when she shows him all the clues, Paul will join hands with Abby to find out the truth. He will pull in his tech and forensics expert, Zooey, who was a fun addition to their team. As the investigation get deeper, clues will be found that during the past 15 years, more missing girls have been discovered with similarities to Cass’s disappearance. As they realize a serial killer is still out there committing murders on young girls, the hunt is on to find the murderer. In the background of this suspense thriller, is a slow build romance between Paul and Abby, who both have had feelings for each other for a long time, though they did not act on it due to their respect for Cass. That will change in time, as the past rears its ugly head, and the killer is closer to home than they realized. What follows in an intense exciting pulse pounding adventure to find the killer and resolve the ties to Doctor X. Tess Diamond once again gives us another wonderful, well written suspenseful thriller, as I could not put the book down until I reached the end. I loved Abby, who was smart, savvy, tough and a great investigator. Paul was an excellent, fearless and tough hero, who has his own demons from bad cases; but when the killer threatens his family and Abby, he will pull all stops as we race to the exciting climax. Being a thriller with a number of surprises, I will not tell too much more, which could ruin it for you. Tess Diamond again knocks this out of the park. I loved every moment of this book. If you like exciting intense romance suspense thrillers, with a bit of romance, then I suggest you read Be A Good Girl.
This is exactly the type of book I have been looking for when it comes to romantic suspense! As a girl that enjoys a good mystery and also a good romance, romantic suspense should be the perfect blend of the two for me. For whatever reason though, I have a hard time finding romantic suspense books that I really enjoy. This author changed all of that for me now. I enjoyed both parts of this book equally and felt that it was a good blend of the two genres. In fact, I really couldn't stop reading this book once I got going. It was just so good and so hard to put down! In this book, Abigail is searching for the truth behind her best friend's death that happened many years ago. The police believe that they found her killer and he is sitting in prison for his crimes. When she comes across evidence that may prove otherwise, she is drawn into the hunt for the real truth behind her friend's death. The mystery portion of this book was both suspenseful and very intense. Like reading as fast as I possibly could intense to see how everything would turn out. But what also drew me into this book was the history between Abigail and Paul. There was this easy chemistry between them from the very beginning pages and I couldn't get enough of it. I also think that their shared history helped to make the relationship developing between them feel more natural. It wasn't one of those instal-loves that I despise so much. Instead, it almost felt like the relationship that developing was like coming home after being gone for too long - that feeling is the best way to describe it! Overall, I am so excited to have found this author's books because I enjoyed this one so much! I actually already have another of her books on my shelves waiting to be read which pleases me to no end. I need more romantic suspense reads just like this in my life! I found this to be a heart-poundingly good read and one that I couldn't get enough of. I think that fans of mysteries and thrillers would enjoy this book just as much as fans of romance would. I'm planning on reading more by this author sooner rather than later. I would highly recommend! Bottom Line: One of the best romantic suspense reads I've read in a long time! Disclosure: I received a copy of this book thanks to Edelweiss and the publisher.
FBI Agent Paul Harrison has spent the last 15 years feeling guilty about the murder of his girlfriend by the serial killer Doctor X. Her best friend, Abby Winthrop, has felt the same. She and her friend, Cass, had a falling out shortly before Cass' death. As an investigative reporter, Abby does not believe that Doctor X murdered her friend and she's determined to find the truth ... and the real killer. What she finds is that Doctor X, now in prison, knows who killed Cass. She also knows that the local girls who are now disappearing are the work of the copy cat. Now if only the FBI will believe her! Harrison has long had an attraction to Abby .. that's what caused the break among the three friends. But now she offers him peace and understanding and salvation ... if she only will. Abby fell a little in love with Paul when they were all in school ... but he belonged to Cass and Abby wasn't one to intrude. And now they are thrown together in a hunt for a serial killer that no one knew existed. Paul brings in Xooey, a computer whiz to help. But as they come closer to the killer, the more danger they all face. And then Abby and Paul's young niece disappear ...... If you like Romantic Suspense, you will really enjoy this one. It's well written with suspense leading the way and a little romance following. There are moments of intimacy, but nothing over the top. I enjoyed all the characters. Paul comes across as honest, with himself and everyone else. Family means a great deal to him, but his job is where he shines. Abby is a terrific investigator in her own right ... seeing things that the FBI and other law enforcement missed. Zooey is a hoot and a holler. She's very young, but absolutely brilliant. She has a tremendous sense of humor .... I wish she lived next door to me. Many thanks to the author / Avon Publishing / Edelweiss for the advanced digital copy of this Romantic Suspense.
