Overview

Big Bad Breakfast: The Most Important Book of the Day by John Currence

From the James Beard Award winner, Top Chef Masters contestant, and acclaimed author comes this fun, festive, and highly caffeinated ode to the joys and rituals of the Southern breakfast, with over 125 recipes inspired by the author's popular restaurant in Oxford, Mississippi.

John Currence is one of the most celebrated and well-loved chefs in the South. Among his string of highly successful restaurants in Oxford, Mississippi, Big Bad Breakfast holds a special place in diners' hearts: It is a gathering place where people from all walks come together to share the most important meal of the day, breakfast. Southerners know how to do breakfast right, and Currence has elevated it to an artform: dishes like Banana-Pecan Coffee Cake, Spicy Boudin and Poached Eggs, and Oyster Pot Pie are comforting, soulful, and packed with real Southern flavor. Big Bad Breakfast is full of delicious recipes that will make the day ahead that much better--not to mention stories of the wonderful characters who fill the restaurant every morning, and a meditation on why the Southern breakfast is one of America's most valuable culinary contributions.

"Big Bad Breakfast" offers a wide variety of easy to understand and follow recipes. Waffles, pancakes, coffeecake or scrambles are just a few. Some are simple and other a little more complex. So many dishes to choose from. Check them out. You are bound to find more than a few to tempt you. My rating of "Big Bad Breakfast" is 5 out of 5 stars.

Big Bad Breakfast: The Most Important Book of the Day by John Currence is a new niche cook book based on the breakfast inspired recipes. One might wonder why in this modern day anyone would purchase an expensive cook book when there are so many free recipes available on the internet. There are still some people out there who prefer a physical cookbook that they can shelve in their kitchen rather than a collection of printed out recipes. This book is a beautifully bound hardcover with full color photos of a variety of meals inspired by traditional as well as exotic breakfast choices. It is a work of art with collages and full color spreads featuring meat and various cultures. This book would make a great gift for a chef or as a housewarming gift. As far as recipes- this book is for the chef who feels at home with meat, and sausage in eggs, as well as eclectic and exotic dishes. The cover may feature a traditional breakfast, but the recipes are original, complex and unique. This book is for daring individuals who love breakfast inspired foods for any time of the day.. This book combines artistry and upscale ingredients with a variety of meat and ingredients. There is a lot of background and supplemental information to make the reader an expert in breakfast cuisine . This retro styled cookbook will appeal to a new generation of cooks. This book is entertaining to read as well as informative- as it goes beyond traditional recipes. It is more like a breakfast adventure or journey. As a blogger I received a copy of this book published by Potter publishers for the purpose of writing this review.
