Blades Of Magic: Crown Service #1 by Terah Edun

It is not a peaceful time in the Algardis Empire. War is raging between the mages and seventeen-year-old Sara Fairchild will be right in the middle of it.

She just doesn't know it yet.

Sara is the daughter of a disgraced imperial commander, executed for desertion. Sara is also the best duelist and hand-to-hand combatant in Sandrin. She lives quietly with her family's shame but when challenged about her family's honor, her opponent inevitably loses.

On the night she finds out her father's true last actions, she takes the Mercenary Guilds' vows to serve in the emperor's army. Using her quick wits and fierce fighting skills, she earns a spot in the first division.

There she discovers secrets the mages on both sides would prefer stay hidden. Dark enemies hunt her and soon it's not just Sara questioning the motivation behind this war.

While fighting mages, blackmailing merchants and discovering new friends, Sara comes across something she's never had before - passion. The question is - can she fight for her empress against a mage who might unwittingly claim her heart?

This is year one of the Initiate Wars. Sara is hoping it doesn't become the year she dies.

I hate these kind of novellets said to be books they give you the good opening and set up the players and then take you to the climax and end the so called book guess what a book has an end with things tied off this let me disapponted because it was only half a book. It sends up the red flags that you have to cut up a book and really the way it was left dosen't make me want to read on.

If you love young adult fantasy, you won't want to miss out on this one!   Terah Edun is able to create a magical world full of adventure. She is able to set up a new series in the same world as her previous series, but with a different tone and cadence so that it has its own unique signature in the world of fantasy.   This was a great first book to a new series and I am excited to see what this author comes out with next.   As an avid fantasy reader, I am definitely hooked!

I like the story but the writing is rough with no subtlety and the author spells too much out, almost like a childrens book. Still interesting to read

It was amazing writing and kept me reading as long as posible,it also had a good plot and keeps moving thoughout the book. The reason I gave it only four stars is because I think it would be a better book if it included the 2nd book as well as the first,so in other word it was great but needed to be longer.I would totally sugust that you read it if you don't mind paying or you want to just read the first book. I on the other hand will not get the other book because i think it will be too much money.

Slow to start but climbs steadily. Asking or creating more questions than providing answers. Setting you in to the pattern of trying to find the answers.

4 stars. I read this book as part of the bundled  "Fierce". It is included in another bundle as well. This was among the best of the stories. The story is not a romance. In the bundle it is part of a serial which does not include everything in the description above so I don't know if you will get the same content in an independent book. If you don't mind being enticed to buy multiple books to complete a story, I recommend this one. Personally, I resent not knowing up front wha T a story is going to cost me.

Sara Fairchild is a battle mage that wants to know what happened to her father. You will get to watch her realize she doesn't have to do it alone. This is an adult fantasy series with fighting and magic but in this book there is not a romantic relationship. However, there is a budding friendship that grows during the book and hopefully the series! Terah Edun credited a new series in the same world as her "Sworn in" series but without the romance. However, it does have lots of action! I enjoyed reading it(more then once).
