Russell Brooks have woven mystery, suspense, murder, betrayal and even loyalty throughout his story Chill Run.An enjoyable suspenseful thriller that will take you on Roller coaster ride with Eddie, Corey and Jordyn. After the threesome plan to expose the female Ceo to gain stardom hoping to snag a book deal, Eddie finds himself being accused of murder, with friends at tow. Running for their lives. Eddie has a knack for unleashing mystery, along the way he makes discoveries no normal person would, I think with having his writer skills in place he easily sees things that a normal person would not. This helps him to uncover certain aspects throughout this murder and helps to expose the entire plan. I really enjoyed the character development. Close nit friendships that are bound and loyalty hard to find. The characters easily likable and funny and other moments friendship shown through !A smooth flowing storyline, filled with all the goodies one could want in suspenseful thriller. Moments that will send Chills down your spine and others where you grasping at your reader in hope that Eddie survives the ordeal to become the successful writer that originally got him into this mess.Chapters run smoothly from one till the next, curve balls thrown in and twists and turns you certainly won¿t see coming! Russell has created a thriller that will certainly keep you guessing the entire read, from beginning to end and even have you left wanting more.An ending a reader loves to see, but an overall storyline that has filled every query, question or aspect of a read. Recommended to all who enjoy action, adventure, murder, mystery and suspense and even a little added extra for a laugh.

Russell Brooks never fails to disappoint! Disclaimer: I received an e-copy in exchange for an honest review. Russell Brooks never fails to disappoint! While this book doesn't contain my favorite character, the fantastic Ridley Fox, it still doesn't fall short in the awesome department. Eddie is a hard-up writer, trying to become a best-selling author, but it just seems like nobody wants to give him a chance. So he and his besties cook up a hair-brained scheme which, of course, goes completely awry. Cue the news, the police, crying parents, chases, and all sorts of other dramatics, and you've got the receipt for yet another wonderful novel by this great author. You'll have to read it for yourself to see how everything turns out! =) 5 stars all around.

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review. I was hooked from the first page to the last. It was a fast-paced thrill to the end. The story has characters that are likeable. I found myself laughing at Eddie and Corey a few times. The storyline was well developed with a surprise twist at the end. I look forward to reading more from the author and can't wait for the sequel.

Twenty-four year old Eddie Barrow Jr. lives in Quebec, Canada and is having a lousy day. He is fired from his job and his girlfriend left him, could it get worse, absolutely. Eddie's parents are from Barbados and moved to Canada to better themselves. He and his sister were both born in Quebec and his desire to be the next great novelist has turned his parents against him. They do not support his career choice and never hesitate to tell him so. But, his best friend Corey and Corey's girlfriend Jordyn give him the encouragement his family fails too. After he receives another disappointing rejection from a publisher his friends come up with a ridiculous plan to get his name in the papers. Jordyn admits to Eddie that she is a dominatrix and that one of the other doms she knows is going to be seeing a Fortune 500 CEO and Eddie should take her friends place. Once he and the woman are in the hotel room for awhile his friends would call the newspapers and Eddie would have his name splashed all over the media. If the plan sounds crazy what happens in that hotel room is totally nuts. The female CEO turns out to be a man, not an ordinary man but the Governor of New Hampshire. Eddie finds himself unable to follow through with the plan and admits everything to the Governor, who then confesses to Eddie how he is corrupt and is involved in one of the biggest scams to milk millions out of Canadian investors and investors in other countries. What happens next is a comedy of errors. Men break into the hotel room and shoot the Governor in the head, but fortunately, they miss Eddie who is hiding in the next room. Once again Corey comes to his rescue just as he did fifteen years ago when skinheads were attacking Eddie. He drives Eddie away from the hotel but not without being seen by the hotel guards. Now Eddie and Corey are wanted for the murder of Governor Bevins. But it gets worse, when Jordyn comes to help them they find themselves accused of kidnapping her. It doesn't take long for the assassins to also find out who Eddie and Corey are and where they live. Unfortunately for them Eddie, Corey and Jordyn are gone. Where can they go? Not only is Canada broadcasting their pictures all over the media but the United States as well. How can they prove their innocence when everything points to them? We know from the very beginning of the book who ordered the hit on Bevins but watching the three friends trying to prove their innocence is the best part. The interaction between Eddie and Corey at times made me laugh out loud, they are two very unique characters. Reviewed by: Linda Tonis Member of the Paranormal Romance Review Team

I liked Eddie. He's this regular guy that is struggling to make his dream of becoming a published author one day. His strongest supporters are his unemployed best friend and his best friend's girlfriend who happens to be a dominatrix. This trio is written with a strong bond that goes far beyond what most friends would probably do for you. This makes me like them all the better! I mean seriously friends that do everything they can while you're a fugitive on the run from the cops and risking their lives while the killers are chasing you down to keep you quiet!! Well where can I sign up for friends like that! ;) Eddie and his friends come up with a scheme to get his name out in the world so he can get his books sold. Reluctantly, Eddie agrees and ends up with a whole lot more then he bargained for! When he walks into a hotel room hoping to do one thing and finds something way off his radar he basically put himself in one of those wrong place at the wrong time situations. 'Chill Run' is like one of those horror films you're watching and you're screaming at the girl NOT to go outside to check on the ''noise''...yup! Screaming ''Eddie, no! Dude! Don't do that!'' Then the author magically with all his wonderful writing goes in and fixes it. *sigh* Goodness Russell Brooks great job on the suspense!! Russell Brooks builds a great premise and he carries it all the way through. I enjoyed the suspense and mystery that is found throughout this book. He even throws a little twist there at the end that leaves you saying, ''What! What?'' Thing to remember with this's not all as it seems! Another great couple of parts this book had was the relationship Eddie has with his family. He struggles even as an adult to stand up for himself and we get to watch him ''grow'' and learn to defend himself and actions. We are able to watch this family learn and come together with faith and love for each other. Pretty awesome! If you're a fan of suspense at every corner and you like to solve a little mystery then you will really enjoy 'Chill Run' by Russell Brooks! I give this book my thumbs up!

Chill Run by Russell Brooks is a fast-paced read. With a setting based off of Canada's Caribbean culture it immediately drew me in to the plot. With a casual yet descriptive style the writer brings you into the characters mind, plight, and reasoning. Yet, as we all know even the best laid plans can go awry unexpectedly. If you a looking for a thriller that will keep you on edge, then you will want to pick this one up and add to your collection.

I wasn't sure what I should expect from Chill Run but I ended up really enjoying it! Eddie is the central character in this fast-paced story ¿ he's an aspiring author who at the beginning of the story has just lost his job, his girlfriend & family ties. But things get even worse for him when he witnesses a murder & is subsequently accused of being the perpetrator. This leads to himself and his best friends to flee, and search for a way to clear Eddie's name. So, as you can expect, Chill Run is loaded with some very unpredictable twists and turns that'll keep readers on their toes. I must admit that I wasn't sure if I liked the characters all that much at the beginning (mostly because of the publicity stunt they tried to pull), but by the end they grew on me & I began to care for them. If you enjoy some unpredictable mystery with some well-developed characters & plot, then pick up Chill Run. It won't disappoint!

When I first started reading, I was taken on thrill ride which I never wanted to end. I was never a fan of suspense novels, but"Chill Run" has made me not just a fan, but a follower of Russell Brook's work. I met characters I could relate to, and also could see myself sitting down having a cup of coffee with! My attention was held while reading and that is something I never thought a suspense novel would be able to do. Lately I've been browsing the suspense section of the local bookstores, a section which I've always avoided like the plague. This was the book that changed my mind about suspense novels. I am now a believer!

Russell Brooks has done it again. His gripping, page turning writing keeps you glued to this story right up to the last page. It's well worth it to read this book during a time when you know you will not have to stop for any reason. Russell Brooks is a talented Author. Raise your hand if you are tired of seeing celebrities become Authors! Me Me Me Me Me!! I thought this was a very funny and cleverly written story. It was very creative something I never thought of. A upcoming author (Eddie) is trying to break into the world of bestsellers and they only way he thinks he can is by coming up with his own way to become famous.. I laughed out loud throughout this whole story with Eddie's quirky and comical personality. And bringing him together with his best friend who has his problems makes this one funny read you can't put down. It was a quick and fast paced read that kept me on my toes with action. Although it was a good story I feel like it was a bit rushed like I'm not sure how Serge's name came up to Eddie and Corey. And it seemed like everyone was in on the scheme. It was hard to figure out how wasn't. But the shock factor of it all was awesome.. I was guessing and guessing until the end. There were minor editing issues that jumped off the pages and I think there are more ways then one to describe how a character gets from one location or idea to another one.. The writing style could use just a bit of twerking... The hardest part of the story was seeing Eddie so hurt by his family not supporting him. Eddie is a strong character to want to push through that. He knew what he wanted and went after it with all the power that he had in him. It brought tears to my eyes to see his family act in such a way. Each character had their own personalities, strengths and weaknesses and I liked the fact that with their backgrounds of Carribean descent. My favorite of all was Corey. He mad such a huge transformation which showed his strong characteristics.. Go Corey!!! Woot, Woot! All in all, I give this story 4 Chocolate strawberries. Job well done. This was a very creative way to becoming a bestselling author and you will almost double over with laughter...

Russell Brooks places immigrant Canadians Eddie and Corey in some intriguingly dangerous situations in his new novel Chill Run. Eddie wonders why his family ever moved from Barbados. He wonders why he paid four thousand dollars for a car that barely runs. And he wonders why his best friend and room-mate won¿t get a job and pay the rent. Eddie¿s world in the back streets of Montreal is very convincingly portrayed, from French speaking policemen, to the difference between Trinidadian and Barbadian accents, to slang, to the desperate need for money and acceptance. Eddie¿s parents don¿t understand why he moved out from their comfortable home, but now he¿s had enough. If they can¿t accept his dreams, he¿s moving on. Beautiful Jordyn has her own way of raising money to finance her dreams. Best friend Corey¿s big chance ended in disaster. But Eddie just plugs away sending out novels and taking in rejections. He knows in the end luck¿s the biggest thing that determines a writer¿s success, but how can he make luck? Soon Eddie, Corey and Jordyn are on the road, fleeing a nightmare of dominatrices, dead bodies, police hunts and corruption in high places. Eddie¿s last chance at reconciliation with his family seems doomed, and his hopes of being a writer might end with him writing his memoirs in jail. Russell Brooks creates a classic action tale with this novel. Likeably inept characters are pursued by violent criminals. The only black guys outside of town, their pictures splashed over TV screens, the whole world against them, they race to solve the mystery of a dying man¿s words. Well-written dialog, convincing point of view, and some clever twists and turns make this an enjoyable read, with occasionally over-introspective explanations easily forgiven. It¿s a fast-paced story with a nice sense of right and not-quite-wrong, good character development, gritty danger, and satisfying conclusion. Disclosure: The author gave me a free eARC of this novel prior to the Dec 1st publication in exchange for an honest review.

Chill Run is an interesting face paced thriller. I read the book in a few hours, as I was eager to see what happened at the end. It was a thrilling page-turner that grabbed my attention from the first few pages. The book was written in English with a little French sprinkled in which I felt added to the mysteriousness of the book. Chill Run is about an aspiring author, Eddie Barrow, Jr., who sets out on a scheme to acquire fifteen minutes of fame. Eddie wants to become an author by any means necessary and sets out to do so by creating a publicity stunt. With the plans set in place, Eddie dons his leather outfit to begin the night of S & M with the celebrity he's planning to set up. When he gets to where the scene is set to unfold, Eddie is thrown into a world that's unknown to him. The joke, albeit a murderous one, is now on him. He becomes involved in a dark world that provides him with more than the fifteen minutes of fame he was seeking. He's tossed into a world of darkness where he and his best friend are accused of murdering his wealthy client that he witnessed being murdered. Eddie's zealousness put him in the wrong place at the wrong time not it's up to him to get out of the situation he's been placed in. Thrust into a world of corruption with knowledge a billion dollar fraud scheme, Eddie gets his fame when their faces end up on the front page of all of the newspapers, and plastered on every news channel in Canada and the USA. At each point in the book when you thought you knew what was going to happen next, Brooks' creative storytelling ability took the story into an entirely different direction. If you like reading thrillers and mysteries this book is for you. It is well written, and the characters and situations seem real. I highly recommend this book to readers interested in this genre.

Once again Russell Brooks invites me to read another thrilling tail of adventure, danger, loyalty and out right excitement. You, from the start, are drawn in to love Eddie, wanting him to succeed and wishing that those who don't belive in him would just rot. You are taken for a ride as he tries to get a quick fix to his ongoing bad situation, and then thrown into an even more bad situation. The way Russell Brooks tells his story keeps you on your toes and makes you think you know what is going to happen just to sending you in a totally different direction. Just like Pandora's Succession and Unsavory Delicacies, you are left wanting more, and rush to the beginning to see if you missed something the first time around.

I have reviewed Russell Brooks' other books (Unsavory Delicacies and Pandora¿s Succession) and I am a huge fan. Just like his other books Chill Run is very well written and you can very well imagine the characters. I was hooked from the very beginning and could not put it down.I am actually thinking of buying this book in paperback and give this to my hubby to read. If you are into mystery and action book then I recommend this book to you.

Desperation creates inspiration in Russell Brooks¿ CHILL RUN. When Eddie Barrow, Jr. decides to use a publicity stunt to get a book deal, everything that can go wrong with it can and will. His client is murdered, and he is framed for it. Now he¿s on the run with his two friends, but he soon learns that real life can be stranger¿and more dangerous¿than fiction. CHILL RUN is a slow-starting thriller which picks up once the blood and bullets fly. The characters are intriguing from wannabe author Eddie Barrow, Jr. to his family and friends, and I found myself cheering them on and worrying about them. Without giving anything away, the villains contain some surprises within them. Brooks knows how to keep the twists and turns coming, and while reading, I was caught in several delightful surprises. There¿s no chilly reception here, and readers will run to the end along with Eddie and his friends. Writers will also definitely get a kick out of reading Russell Brooks¿ CHILL RUN, although I recommend it to all.

This was a fun thriller by Russell Brooks: but, big BUT, there¿s good news and there¿s bad¿.. The story, set around Montreal, Canada, revolves around Eddie, a struggling writer. He is disheartened by his poor e-book sales and even more despondent when his novel is rejected by two publishing houses. His parents are unsupportive, his girlfriend has cheated on him and his best friend (and flatmate), Corey, owes him rent. Could it get any worse? Oh, indeed it could ¿ he gets laid off from his job at a book store. Corey¿s girlfriend, Jordyn is a ¿femdom¿, a dominatrix, when she is not waitressing; a lucrative side-line which will enable her to save up enough money to buy her own café. As this little side-line introduces her to all sorts of high-profile people, she suggests that Eddie could do worse than be a ¿maledom¿ for one night. A publicity stunt can bring attention to both participants¿¿..what better way to get his name ¿in lights¿? When he is finally persuaded, poor Eddie finds himself with more than just public exposure. He finds himself on the run with Corey and Jordyn; and the pursuant ¿police¿ are not after them to nail them, they¿re after them to kill them¿¿ So, the good? This is an enjoyable, fast-paced thriller with likeable characters set in the cold harshness of a Canadian winter. The dialogue between Eddie, Corey and Jordyn is just what you would expect from three best friends who have known each other for a long time ¿ it¿s jovial banter which often raises a smile. Hapless Eddie is easy to empathise with and the brotherly bond between him and Corey goes back to when they first met, as young teenagers, in an incident which could have ended considerably less than happily for Eddie. The action and characters were all well-described and portrayed. Russell¿s style is light and easy to read. And now¿.the bad¿¿s such a shame when a good book is let down by slapdash editing. I¿m sorry, Russell, but this book was seriously lacking. There were tense inconsistencies, some serious grammatical blunders (he instead of him outside of dialogue), punctuation and spelling mistakes (please, please learn the difference between ¿your¿ and ¿you¿re¿ and if you are going to mention Jack Nicholson¿s brilliant film, get it right ¿ it¿s not The Shinning, it¿s The Shining) and Robert morphed into Richard. I did like the use of French dialogue - it helped to integrate the setting into its French-Canadian backdrop, but the English translation was pointless and unnecessary. More importantly, however, if you are going to use French, for goodness sake get it right ¿ there were accents missing, incorrect adjective agreement and worst of all¿..the auxiliary verb that goes with the past tense of ¿venir¿ is ¿etre¿, not ¿avoir¿. In summary, a lively and entertaining story, but needs a good polish.
