Overview

Death Beckons (Mortis Vampire Series, #1) by J.C. Diem

Working late one night, Natalie Pierce is kidnapped by a creature that looks like a harmless old man, but is something far more terrifying. Waking up in a creepy mausoleum, she is forced to endure three nights of indescribable agony. Her life is forever altered when she is transformed into a monster of myth and legend; a vampire.

Lonely and full of despair, she comes face to face with the irresistible and enigmatic Lord Lucentio. Justice bringer for the European Vampire Council, Luc has been sent to Australia to kill Natalie’s maker, but someone has already beaten him to it. He quickly discovers that Nat is far from an ordinary fledgling. He suspects that she is Mortis, a figure of both hope and dread among their kind.

Natalie is propelled into a dark and mysterious underworld that takes her far away from her hometown of Brisbane. Her arrival was foretold long ago and her fate is already sealed. Nat’s entire species is in danger and it is her job to save them. She desperately wants to escape from the burden that has been thrust upon her, but she is inextricably linked to a two thousand year old prophecy. An unknown enemy has begun to whittle down their already limited numbers. If Nat fails to accept her destiny, all vampires will soon cease to exist.

I liked this book. Could have done without the second but the author didn't get too detailed. Good start for a series.

I like the shifter squad series better. The plot to this book is interesting, I actually laughed out loud a few times, but there is no development between the characters. Does he even like her?

This author does a great job of creating a unique twist on a vampire story. I loved this first book so much I had to sit and read it all in one day and then just had to buy the second book, etc. I am really glad I did purchase the second book and start reading it before posting my review because one of the things I was going to complain about was an error in the plot! However, Book 2 clears that issue up right away ... it is NOT an error at all. This will be a series I will read all the way to the end.

The author definitely has the talent to write a good story, but sadly the relationships are based on not much except satisfying urges like dogs in a parking lot.  As far as the plot,  I kept seeing scenes from Alyxandra Harvey's series that starts with Hearts at Stake but with foul language and  x-rated scenes included.

Great start to a series. Fun heroine with a kick in her gait.

This was definitely a new and interesting idea on vampires. I LOVED it!! It is original but some times Nat got too caught up in her own mind which slowed down the pace of the book.
