Gosh these two had a rough life start, Marina's doesn't appear to have ever stood a chance of improving, while Dex went into the military which has given him a much better life, even if slightly damaged from events that happened while serving. He has been to hell in how he feels about the loss of his friend/brother, having promised to look after his family that on top has messed with his head to some degree. He is closed off to relationships but at the same time still remembers the girl he fell for while they were together for a short time in foster care, he hasn't forgotten anything about her but never expects to see her again and has never looked into seeing where or how she is. Marina's kind heart and strong loyalty have gotten her into one pickle after another, no less so than the night she ends up seeing Jase again, not in the best of positions. My heart was broken for Marina, all she wanted was to find someone to love her unconditionally, for life to just give her a break for once so she wasn't on the verge of being homeless again. I do feel Jase/Dex should have thought more of how he treats her, understood a little more of how he would be messing with her head and feelings, after all though his life had changed and improved hers hadn't. While he had good friends and support, great job and money, she had friends that were all in similar situations to those she herself was in. This is heartbreaking, suspenseful and so full of emotions of many kinds. For me Marv comes out as a big saviour in this story, advice often talking one or other off a ledge. Quin and Judson come through as well as supportive of both characters and great friends. These books are slaying me with the depth and emotions in them, the plots are interesting and so far very different, they grip you and suck you deep until you have tears running down your face or a smile breaks out, holding your attention to the point you really don't want to put them down. In this series it is definitely all about getting that second chance.

Definitely a favourite read for me - loved it! This is a very moving story of two people who met and connected as children in the foster care system then were torn apart by that system. Years later, they are now adults and their lives have followed very different routes. He’s been in the army and is now a police officer whilst she’s desperately trying to make a good life for herself but keeps being knocked down again. From the very start this is a dramatic story with Marina Rossi forever seeming to be in trouble and Jasen Dexter (Jase/Dex) keeps coming to her rescue. Their attraction is still their after more than a decade but she’s so caring and easily conned that even a crazed stalker putting her at risk leaves Jasen bamboozled and discombobulated, wary of upsetting his orderly life but also reluctant to let her go again. As usual for this author, the characters are flawed, striving to better themselves but conflicted in just what they want or how to achieve their aims. They are definitely brought to life and easy to empathise with, making this a highly emotive and very engaging story. The plot has plenty of twists to add suspense to the mix, creating a superb story that I thoroughly enjoyed. It is the second book in the series and does contain characters first encountered in ‘Finding Purpose’ and I appreciated the opportunity to reconnect with them and learn how their relationships and attitudes have developed, though I don’t think you have to have read the that book to appreciate this one. I have no hesitation in highly recommending this novel – and the earlier one in this series. They are well written, with complex characters brought to life in a brilliant romantic suspense. I was given a copy of this book and chose to read it. This is my honest review after doing so.

Tiffani Lynn has given us a beautifully written emotional read that will keep you reading until the end. Mari and Jase were in foster care together, but were separated when he was moved. Ten years later, they are reunited when Dex finds her in a compromising position with his current partner, since Quinn is on vacation. Marina keeps getting in bad situations and Dex bails her out. Mari has always had feelings for Jase, but he is a changed man since his ambush in the Army, which killed his best friend Stu Larkin. When Marina's apartment is robbed of everything, Dex offers his place. Will they finally get their chance at happiness or can he not accept the way Marina dresses or acts? I won't leave any spoilers because I think everyone should read this heartbreaking book. You will not be disappointed. This is a standalone book, but I suggest reading Finding Purpose so you can read Quinn and Judson's story. Tiffani Lynn gets better with every book she writes! This is now my favorite book of hers!
