About the Author

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Kate Pearce was born in England in the middle of a large family of girls and quickly found that her imagination was far more interesting than real life. After acquiring a degree in history and barely escaping from the British civil service alive, she moved to California and then to Hawaii with her kids and her husband and set about reinventing herself as a romance writer. She writes for Kensington, Penguin Random House UK, Rouge Romance, Carina and Cleis Press and is known for both her unconventional heroes and her joy at subverting romance clichés. In her spare time she self-publishes science fiction erotic romance, historical romance, and whatever else she can imagine. I liked two things the most: 1. Though he has an English name, Ian is not England born. His father is English, his mother is Indian. 2. Faith's avid interest in the Kama Sutra. Might sound like an odd thing to like about a historical romance, but there it is. I have not read many historical romances that touch on The Kama Sutra. This not only references it but the characters engage in conversation about it. It was engaging to read that Faith had not only studied the book at length but was not afraid to ask Ian questions about what she saw in the book. But I felt like something was missing between Ian and Faith. I'm not saying the attraction wasn't there. It was, but their relationship seemed to lack that oomph I was expecting, especially since the sex between them was scorching hot. Ms. Pearce has penned an interesting prequel novella for her series, and I'll be picking up Book 1 to read about Ian and Faith's fellow Sinners for sure.

This book is written for contemporary readers. Thrown in between graphic sex scenes are unlikely events with very little description so one cannot bring oneself to imagine the scene. All in all, it feels like a very young person or someone who hasn't enough historical /period romance has written this short story. I wouldn't spend money to buy her books .

Perhaps if the work was longer, it might have been better. As it was, I found the characters underdeveloped. There was also undue focus placed on the attraction between our characters, oftentimes disrupting the plotline.
