To me, the book you read at a certain point in your life is as important as the clothes you wear to an extremely main event. I am very selective with any book I read. I have to feel inspired, and it has to serve a purpose. The purpose of this book is Forgiveness, 21 Days to Forgive Everyone for Everything. The book started pretty easy; introduction, summaries, purpose of the author, who Iyanla Vanzant is. Then the real work begins; the work you, the reader has to do. First, you will need a lot of discipline. This book is a twenty-one day step process. Iyanla will guide you through a daily paragraph to read. Then she will guide you through EFT( Emotional Freedom Technique) otherwise known as tapping.  This is where it begins to get real. You will uncover emotions, thoughts, and ideas you have been holding on to for years. The book is a guide towards helping you forgive, like she says, EVERYONE for EVERYTHING. You will learn to forgive yourself, mother, father, teacher, negative thoughts, god, money and anything that you have been holding negative emotions for. Like I said above what you really need is discipline.   Second, be willing to feel emotions you’ve never felt. You will uncover thoughts and remember situations in your life that seemed irrelevant but somehow were rooted in your subconscious mind. You will dig deep through any emotional trauma you’ve had then forgive and let go.  When beginning this book you have to become aware that this is a 21 day program. So be intentional about your objective and aware that you will have to donate about an hour of your day, for twenty-one days, to this book. That’s where the discipline comes in.  This book also brings a companion CD full of meditations. In my opinion the CD helped me more than the whole book itself. It’s a matter of choice. I’ve never been fond of step programs because somehow once I reach day thirteen I want to quit. In my mind, I could feel the benefits and the freedom that would come with finishing this book, so I did. I feel cleaner, free, happy, present, and ready for the future.  Iyanla Vanzant clearly guides you towards emotional freedom with this book. You have to be willing to go through the process. Sometimes to move towards a brighter future, you have to go to the past and let go of it.

This book contains a powerful message that can help everyone and anyone move past the challenge of forgiveness. This book opened my eyes and mind to new possibilities, and helped me break free from the challenges I had faced for many years. It's a very powerful and timely message. I'd also recommend "When God Stopped Keeping Score." It is another book that I'd recommend for anyone who has stumbled in their journey to forgive themselves.

Forgiveness: 21 Days to Forgive Everyone for Everything by Iyanla Vanzant is the sojourner’s guide to joyful adventure. While the text seems to be better suited as a life traveler’s orientation workbook, the ready reader-participant will almost immediately appreciate the enrichment of having gone through the swamp, those challenging life experiences, before reaching the light. I was eager to pick up this book, having read several by Iyanla, over the years, and after developing a relationship of trust with her writing. No stranger to the power of forgiveness, energy healing techniques, personal empowerment practices and mindful living, I felt prepared for the intensive work. Forgiveness brings clarity, focus, vitality, freedom and empowerment, all conditions I need to create the life of my dreams. Indigenous people around the have globe practiced forgiveness and reconciliation, like the ancient Hawaiian practice of Ho¿oponopono. Like so many of our ancient traditions, we have forgotten why and how we forgive. Forgiveness reminds us who we are and why we are here.By the end of the book, after mindfully working through the process and observing results, you feel restored and revitalized. You realize that forgiveness is about self, about what we think, feel and believe about ourselves. Forgiveness is not about acquiescing to an opponent. It is not an action taken by the passive or weak. It is a warrior’s move. Forgiveness is a beautiful and sacred process of claiming freedom. Forgiveness is an integral aspect of self-mastery.
