I thought that Frozen Moon by D. M. Greenwald was an excellent novel which riveted me from beginning to end in its lead, “It was the worst damn winter storm the sheriff had seen, probably the worst damn storm in 50, maybe 100 years,” and its vivid descriptions of difficulties and perils confronting the search-and-rescue-team including Joshua Travis and his dogs. In fact, I felt as if I were one of the guests at Jay Peak Ski Lodge. Furthermore, I believe that the author heightened the suspense by intentionally focusing more on the emotional reactions through description and dialogue and leaving the physical appearance of Kelly Martin and her parents more to the reader’s imagination. Naturally, I could identify with her, because she reminded me of myself as an insatiably curious little soul at her age as she peppered Joshua with questions about himself, his family, his travels, and his dogs while he told her stories to amuse and comfort her during the storm. Most of all, I found the author’s dog-training techniques deftly woven into Joshua Travis’ characterization very interesting, such as giving a dog a chance to meet people in different situations and training a dog to search for people by hiding them in various places to throw off its trail, and then rewarding it with treats when it picks up their scents. I was also amazed to discover that a dog’s sense of smell surpasses that of humans and detects whether a person is scared or vile. In summary, Frozen Moon is a heart-warming and suspenseful novel I would recommend to many readers.

This book was fascinating and I couldn't put it down. What I liked best about this book is that it keeps you guessing on what is going to happen and at the same time provides lots of details on survival in a difficult situation. Five stars!
