Gentian Hill transports you from a secluded Devonshire valley, perilous Mediterranean naval battles to the poverty stricken prisons of 18th century London.

After reading The Scent of Water by Goudge I was sure I had read her best and most satisfying work. Now having read Gentian Hill, I see why she is such an enduring author. A beautiful and inspiring story that made me want to reach for God and reach within to be my very best. Her characters are simply stunning.

Ms. Goudge's writing is always rich with description, so that situations come alive. The characters are charming and well-drawn, and there is just enough tension and mystery to make it exciting.
