To be alive in dark skin as a woman is the hardest thing I've had to do. Misogynoir, systemic racism, trauma imposed by racist adults have stripped me of luxury of being aloof. I, like many other black people, have been forced to hyper aware of my blackness from a young age. Rarely do I have a chance to share my experiences without coming across as aggressive. But it's easy to ignore these experiences if society as a whole isn't addressing them. Hard Conversations is a raw expression of discussions other people won't have. Every poem shows fragments of my black experience. I'm not running away from this conversation. Are you?
