I only wish there was a series related to this book. The mix of politics and mechanical magical realism was awesome! I read it in a day and was sad the story ended...

I loved Sedia's book, Alchemy of Stone and was pleased to discover that Heart of Iron was, while different, just as good. I loved the setting and the story. I liked that the steampunk elements were there, but very much understated and fit perfectly in the world Sedia created. I like that the main character was a woman who sought, in her own way, education and did not let herself get distracted by love (and at the same time didn't turn away from the feelings). Though this is geared at adults, the story is one that I think would fit well with YA readers. I loved this book and look forward to reading more by Sedia.

This story meanders here and there, with a plot that never really resolves, but the vivid language and fascinating characters makes this a wonderful read, regardless.

Thought this was well written, and certainly made one feel like being there. Cold shivers run down your spine with the chilling details of what it must have been like in those early days in Russia. The inventions and contraptions that were mentioned, took some imagination and research, no doubt about it. Not quite a love story, but one could imagine that it was out there to be had. All characters very well presented. Overall, a wonderful journey that will keep you turning the pages.
