Ann Gimpel does it again! This is a prequel to a new series complete with dragons, dragon-shifters, mages, celtic gods and so much more. Angus is trapped in a life ruled by others. Robbed of his memories, he is stuck working for the celts, doing their bidding, hoping for a time when his life will be his own. Ariarhod, the virgin warrior princess, is trapped in a life that is a lie, but sees no way clear of her situation. Their attraction is instantaneous and fierce yet their love forbidden. Will they find a way to be together despite the overwhelming odds? Compliments of time travel, their journey takes them across several centuries. They are on a quest to discover the truth behind the dragons and the dragon-shifters. It's a journey that nearly costs them their lives. Action, adventure, magic and mayhem, this book has it all. Enjoy!

Received this book free for an honest review. I love dragons and mythology. This book is so intriguing and well written that I sometimes forget it's fiction. The journey these characters go through are arduous and simplistic all at once. You often think that if someone or a being is all powerful, then why can't they do what they want. Simple really. Everything has to follow the foundation that's laid out and no amount of omniscience can bend the rules of the laws that were governed. Gods or not, you have to play by the rules. It sucks, but it is so much fun to read about. I know I'd like to see how this story plays out.

Have you ever felt trapped in your life? Stuck in a job you hate, forced to live in a place that doesn’t feel like home and working endlessly for a boss, or bosses, that you don’t trust. Always at their beck and call, never having a life or time of your own. Now imagine that scenario where you were taken as a child (by a Celtic god or goddess), had your memories removed and then forced to work for these same gods and goddesses for millennia. This is the life that Angus Shea has faced every day upon waking for as long as he can recall. On his latest mission he is sent to Fire Mountain, the Dragon’s home world, to determine what is going on with the dragons and the human mages’ and why they keep disappearing. Arianrhod is one of many Celtic goddesses, the “Virgin goddess” as she is known by her peers. And while that may have once been true, many things have changed over millennia. But she is forced to live a lie or give up her place in the Pantheon, the only thing she has ever known. So she quietly goes about her life, avoiding spending too much time with the other Celts and working mostly alone. But her latest mission takes her to Fire Mountain, the Dragon’s home world, where she and Angus finally meet. How does a man, who has spent his every waking moment brewing anger, hatred and pain towards the Celts for destroying his life, deal with being attracted to the point of distraction to one of them? And how does a “virgin goddess” cope with an overwhelming, nearly instinctual attraction to a man she believes is loyal to the bone to the very people she is lying to? How can two beings, completely untrustworthy of each other and everything they think the other knows and believes, still manage to burn with desire for the other? And what do they choose to do about it? Once again Ann Gimpel has given us a story that resonates with history, intensity, desire, betrayal and a destiny that cannot be changed. To see where it all began and meet some of the key players in this saga, you must learn the Highland Secrets.

This is a prequel to Ann Gimpel's Dragon Lore series. We meet Angus Shea as he is cavorting off the coast of Ireland with Selkies. He has been tasked by some of the Celtic gods to investigate why dragon shifters are disappearing from the Scottish Highlands. He clearly is not happy to do their bidding though that is all he has known. He was taken as a child and doesn't know anything of his past or even when in time he is originally from. Is Angus a simple human dragged into their world or is there more to him than meets the eye? Also sent to investigate this dragon problem is Arianrhod who is a Celtic goddess and legendary "virgin" huntress. She meets up with Angus at the dragons home world at Fire Mountain. The dragons send these two on their own quest as well. What dark forces are at work? And just who is involved in the disappearances of the dragons and what is their ultimate goal? Sparks fly in more ways than one in this story. If you like Celtic gods, dragons, other immortals and time travel, you will enjoy this book. The book is not meant to be read as a standalone. I'm eager to read more of this series to see what happens next. I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Just loved this book! I've always had a hard time finding a good book written about dragon shifters but I no longer have to look! Ann Gimpel did a beautiful job of writing this book! I love reading books with mythology and this book was not a disappointment.

I received this book directly from Ann & I read it in one day. The story is about Angus & Arianrhod both of whom are tasked to solve mysteries involving dragons. Angus is tasked with helping Eletea since she killed a dragon shifter mage. Arianrhod is tasked with finding out about missing dragons that were bonded with dragon shifter mages. Along the way, Arianrhod helps Angus discover who he is as a portion of his past was blocked from him by Celtic Gods. Angus & Arianrhod fall in love, but Arianrhod is the Celtic goddess--the Virgin Hunter, and she is not supposed to have any relations with men. The story is well written with lots of adventure. A love story is expected, but it has the twist that Angus & Arianrhod cannot be together. The story ends with a cliffhanger, which leaves you wanting more. This is another can't miss series.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review of Highland Secrets (Dragon Lore Book 1, The Prequel. I really enjoyed this story and I am looking forward to the rest of the series. This is a story about ancient and modern celtic mythology with the interaction of some of the gods and goddesses, along with dragon shifters and Angus Shea. Angus's identity was stolen from him when he was a child. To get it back he is given jobs by the gods/goddess with a promise that after they feel he has paid his dues he will get his memory back. While working with the Celtic Goddess, Arianrhood, the Virgin Hunter, he discovers who he is and his family. They have been partnered to solve the disappearance of the dragon shifters. They are attracted to each other, will they give in to this attraction or not. Ann's ability to bring her story to life through her description of the people, places and events makes the story more enjoyable. Ann has done an excellent job with Book 1, the Prequel of Highland Secrets. I highly recommend this book and I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Fantastic I loved it Oh wow what a great new paranormal series. It's got dragons, selkies, gods, mages. And more! Angus was taken at a young age and had his memory erased. All he wants now is his memories back and his freedom. Both he thinks will never come. He has been sent on a mission to add a female young dragon. Arianrhod is a goddess but she us tried of the way her life has worked out. I have got to see this looks be great start to an awesome new series and I can't wait to see what Ann Gimpel has planned for us! Book gifted for an honest review and I honestly loved.

I was given this story in exchange for an honest review. This is a prequel and helps set up the coming series which I am really looking forward to reading the rest. There is time travel, politics, evil, dragons, and of course, forbidden love. Angus carries out tasks for the Celts while he hopes they will explain who he is. He meets the moon goddess Arianrhod and they work on the latest task assigned. They have a strong connection for which they cross the forbidden line in order to find love. The story takes a little bit to get going as it explains a lot of the backstory, but once it starts rolling, it is a quick and bumpy ride. The ending is bittersweet but sets up the series. This is a good paranormal read.
