I am a Stranger in a Strange Land tells the story of a young Caribbean islander, Tio Mourillon, who leaves his fiancee behind to seek work in the UK. So, he sets sail on the SS Auriga - successor to the Empire Windrush - to arrive on English shores in May 1956. Immediately, he seeks work. He finds it in the booming, dangerous steelworks in the industrial north of England. He seeks a place to live.
