I Don't Want To Talk About It: or, on mental health

We treat mental illness as if it's a deviant or divergent characteristic, assuming that depression and the like only affect a small percentage of our national population. But the truth is, one in five Americans lives with some form of mental illness. How many more celebrity suicides before we acknowledge that it's a serious problem? How long can we feign surprise that so many are suffering?
