This novel is about a young women's personal and spiritual self-discovery following amnesia suffered after a mysterious and brutal beating. This novel kept my interest. I've never read a novel set during this time period. It was obviously thoroughly researched and I'm sure it was historically accurate. I would have given 4 stars if the author hadn't used so many Irish words. It was VERY distracting having to constantly refer to the glossary in the back especially with an ebook. It would have been so much easier to read if the author had translated the words to english in parentheses.

Great treatment of a woman finding answers about herself and available choices in ancient Irland; but also faced by all women in all ages... to love,to hate, to trust, to accept, reject religious faith. There is a glossary of Irish words in the back which is very helpful. The characters resonated with me; i recommend reading this book.
