About the Author

Originally from Ireland, Kate cut her romance reader teeth on Maeve Binchy and Jilly Cooper novels, with some Harlequins thrown in for variety. Give her tales about brooding mill owners, oversexed equestrians, and men who can rock an apron or a fire hose, and she’s there. Now based in Chicago, she writes sexy contemporary romance with alpha heroes and strong heroines who can match their men quip for quip.

122 p. M/F, dual POV, HEA, likeable characters, sexy chemistry but their intimacy/relationship builds quickly, adult content, first in series. Looking forward to reading supporting characters' stories.

Written a little different than most sports stories, there was an equal mix of sport and personal relationships which was pretty good. Ended a bit quickly but it is a short book.

In Skates Trouble is book #0.5 in the Chicago Rebels series by Kate Meader. This prequel was originally published as part of the Hot on Ice: A Hockey Romance Anthology. Now you can purchase it by itself. I have read two later books in this series and am now going back to read the ones I missed before I read the latest book. Ford Callaghan is the star right winger for the cup winning New Orleans Cajun Rajuns. He is in Chicago to visit his family and is sitting out on the balcony in the dark when he begins to overhear three women’s conversation on the balcony next door. He should go inside but can’t tear himself away. It’s the voice of one of the women that holds him captive. After her friends leave, and he realizes she knew he was there all along, that both of their worlds are changed forever. Addison Williams is a full figured lingerie model who is starting her own lingerie business in Chicago. Addison has been divorced for two years now and wants nothing more than to be independent and successful. She is not the least bit interested in getting back into a relationship. But when the man in the next door balcony speaks to her, his voice does things to her, awakens parts of her long since asleep. There are no faces involved, no identities, just that voice. And the things that voice asks her to do there on the balcony in the dark, rocks her world. Ford can’t get the woman’s voice out of his head. He has to figure out who she is. One night will never be enough. “Something had been set in motion that night on the balcony, and she wasn’t sure how to go back to before – or if she even wanted to.” Ford is six years younger than Addison and is wrong for her in every way, he’s a hockey player with a connection to her ex-husband, he’s too young, and he lives in New Orleans. But their chemistry is explosive. They can’t come within three feet of each other without wanting to jump on the other. And when they do come together, fireworks happens, big fireworks, like the grand finale kinds of fireworks. I’m so glad I went back to the beginning and met Ford and Addison. Just a warning but these two will melt your e-reader they are so hot! I loved the way this all played out. The first full book in the series is Irresistible You which is Harper and Remy’s story. I’ve aleady read it and you most definitely don’t want to miss it.

This was a fun and fast read. I loved Addy and Ford. They were extremely likable and had a great time with each other. They meet in the dark and take things beyond what is socially acceptable. The intent is to never actually see each other in person, but Ford manages to throw a wrench in that plan. The pair was entertaining and so very good together. I enjoyed them more than I thought that I would. They handled their pasts and issues in a mature manner and even had real conversations about reservations and what each really wanted. I'm looking forward to reading this entire series.

IN SKATE TROUBLE is the prequel novella in Kate Meader’s contemporary adult CHICAGO REBELS erotic, hockey romance series focusing on the NHL team the Chicago Rebels. This is right winger Ford Callaghan, and lingerie model/designer Addison Williams. NOTE: IN SKATES TROUBLE was originally released in the multi-authored anthology HOT ON ICE which is no longer available for sale. Told from dual third person points of view (Ford and Addison) IN SKATES TROUBLE follows the building relationship between the Cup-winning New Orleans Cajun Rajuns right winger Ford Callaghan, and lingerie model and designer Addison Williams. Back in his home-town of Chicago with the Stanley Cup Ford Callaghan will meet the woman of his fantasies, lingerie model Addison Williams, but a woman off limits in more ways than one. Keeping their relationship on the down-low finds Ford frustrated with the endless possibilities if only they were honest with the people in control. What ensues is the back and forth, hot and cold secret romance between Ford and Addison, as Addison struggles with a past that could potentially harm Callaghan’s future. IN SKATES TROUBLE is a quick read that introduces some of the background and characters to the Chicago Rebels series including Rebel’s new owner Harper Chase, and her newly acquired center Remy DuPre. When Ford Callaghan reveals the truth about his relationship with Addison Williams, Ford sealed his fate, and his future with the woman he loves. The premise is energetic; the romance is passionate and intense; the characters are colorful and spirited. IN SKATES TROUBLE is a sexy and sassy start to a new series.

Rating 4.5 stars Kate Meader is one of my favorite authors. She writes with humor and her smexy times are hawt. I have a tendency to not read the blurbs for her books. I see her name and I just grab it. Thus, I wasn’t prepared for what I found inside the pages of In Skates Trouble. From the first page, a spark is lit. When Addy and Ford have an anonymous conversation in the dark, the spark becomes a full on inferno. But Ford isn’t happy with the one-time chance encounter with a woman who really got his blood pumping. He sets out to find her, only to discover that he wants a relationship with someone who is forbidden and can ruin his successful hockey career. Addison Williams is a thirty-two year old full-figured lingerie model. She’s finally getting her life back together after her divorce and isn’t looking for another relationship. She wants to focus on her career. Too bad for her, the star hockey player of her former husband’s hockey team has his sights set on her and he doesn’t plan on taking no for answer. In Skates Trouble is a novella that sets up Kate’s upcoming Chicago Rebels series. I loved all the characters in this story and can’t wait to find out what happens with Harper Chase in Irresistible You.

Hockey is my sport. I came to it honestly as college social experiences revolved around the Division I hockey team – what else was there to do on a Friday night? At a small DI school you interacted frequently with the players. They were classmates and friends. Also as a DI hockey school it was a huge part of non-academic learning. I can still remember a class hockey game. The 5 hockey players used it for practice, the majority of the rest of us were just trying to keep our feet on skates. What I learned through those interactions was that these were the nicest guys you will ever meet: off the ice. They were respectful, honest, caring, and involved in their local community, not to mention most of them were pretty hot. In other words, the perfect romance hero. Thankfully, I’m not the only one that has noticed this and hockey romances are somewhat easier to find these days. My new favorite is the Hot on Ice anthology. This amazing collection of eighteen individual novels is authored by some of my favorites, including Kimberly Kincaid, Avery Flynn, Kate Meader, Angi Morgan, and others. To make it even more enticing, 20% of the proceeds benefit the Homes for Troops charity. The stories are all centered around the New Orleans Rage, the cup winning hockey team. Did I mention it is also $.99. If you are a fan of hockey romance this is a must read. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of these novels.

Ford “Killer” Callaghan meets his match when he shares an explosive night with an anonymous woman, and then she's gone... and he's going crazy! He wants to see her again, but once he discovers who his mystery woman is he maybe left singing a different tune! This short but oh so sexy story is packed with heartwarming content, toe curling romance, and an alpha that is sure to score a special spot in your heart! Highly recommend!

This is a fantastic novella that kicks off what I expect to be a fantastic new series. In this story Ford Callaghan just finished a season with the Cajun Rage where they miraculously won the cup. With his day with The Cup Ford Callaghan returns to Chicago to share the win with his family. Never did he expect to meet the woman of his dreams. One little problem. She's the ex of the Rage's team owner. Career ending?? Can't wait for the rest of this series! I highly recommend this one.

When Ford ‘Killer’ Callaghan overhears the ladies on the balcony next door at his hotel complaining about men and their oral skills, he doesn’t expect to be caught in the act of eavesdropping. In the dark of night, he and his balcony partner find a little mutual self-satisfaction, a harmless flirtation as they don’t set eyes or hands on each other. But Ford does a little detective work and figures out how to meet the woman who so intrigued him, and it turns out that she’s Addison Williams, a famous model and the ex-wife of the owner of the hockey team he plays for, the Cajun Rage. Meeting each other in person sparks the fires already lit from their steamy nighttime encounter. But it could spell disaster for Ford’s career if he’s caught fooling around with his owner’s ex. This story starts out steamy and doesn’t let up! Ford and Addy are both very likable characters and have crystal clear chemistry. She’s a plus-sized model and he’s a star right winger, so they have careers and lives of their own, and a fling while he’s in Chicago where Addy has relocated, is something they can’t resist. Ford’s there to show the Stanley Cup to his brother and his junior hockey club where he first played. Some of the story revolves around the complicated relationship he has with his family, the earlier death of his brother never forgotten. The story has some emotional moments in the mix of a sexy romance, and there are some ups and downs for this couple as they find their way to a very satisfying happy ending. I’m looking forward to reading more of the Chicago Rebels series!

5 out of 5 stars I was so very excited about everything I was reading. This was incredibly fun, sexy, and entertaining! An excellent introduction to a new series. Loved it all! The story started off so flirty and hot! I loved Addy and Ford. That first meeting and their connection and chemistry was off the charts! I love how they meet, how Ford moved them forward and how their relationship is explosive right from the start. Addy was a fantastic character. I love that Kate Meader always writes such a strong heroine. Addy was bold, confident, and secure in who she was. Ford was so sweet, and I loved the fact that he didn't play games. There are a few complications in their relationship, some ups and downs, and I enjoyed every second of them getting to their happily ever after. Besides the fun and sexy, there's a bit of emotion thanks to some drama Addy and Ford encounter and also because of Ford’s backstory. I love how everything played out, some really touching moments came out of it. This might be a novella but it was very much a full story. The writing is great with excellent details that pulled me in. I love all the characters that were introduced and the hints of foreshadowing of what might come in the first full book in the series, Irresistible You. The way things were laid out got me excited where everything could go. I am thrilled for this new series to release. In short, this was awesome. I loved the witty and engaging characters, I felt they had depth and a good back story. I loved Addy and Ford’s relationship, how everything was laid out, and thought it had a good pace. Solid beginning, middle an end. Can’t wait for more. Bring on the Chicago Rebels! Complimentary copy received for honest review.

She's playing hard to get. Is he up for the challenge? Kate Meader is a no holds barred romantic. In Skates Trouble proves it. Her cat and mouse formula of bad boy seeking mystery woman was well played. Ford and Addison are wicked sexy and eerily romantic. She keeps him on his toes, while easily stealing his heart. The thrill of the chase is worth the wait.
