A fell and ancient sorcery has thrust the kingdoms surrounding the mighty Grimwall mountains into battle with forces of great evil. When Tip and Beau, two Warrows from the village of Twoforks, try to save a mortally wounded soldier, they inherit a vital mission. The dying swordsman gives them a simple copper coin and a cryptic message: “Take the coin east to Agron, and warn all.”
But the East holds terrors beyond anything Tip and Beau have ever known. Modru, the black Mage, has begun his violent reign over the Free Folk—and unleashed his army of deadly emissaries on the young Warrows. Now Tip and Beau’s mysterious quest has become a matter of life and death. For their momentous arrival in Agron will signal a war that threatens to destroy worlds far beyond their beloved Mithgar.
“Some of the finest imaginative action.”—Columbus Dispatch

It was the first book I ever read of McKiernans, and it was GREAT! I couldn't put it down. It transformed me into the world of Elvs, Worrows, Dragons and Dwarfs. It had the right mix of danger, suspence, and even love. Keep it up McKiernan!

Dennis L. Mckiernan skillfully blends the art of story telling in a more readable format with the classic elements of mythological magic. Clever new creatures, though the story hazes a bit to much on Tolkien's 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy, and on 'The Elenium' by David Eddings. The story overall is enjoyable and exciting. Worth the while

I love this books. This duology manages to be good without overwhelmingly Tolkienesque. The characters are fresh and interesting and manage to be both serious and comical at the same time.

Into the forge was awesome! It held me captive. At night time, when my mom would turn off the lights and say it was time to go to sleep, I would sneak out of my bed, get a flash-light and start reading it again. I read it over and over... but then my dog ate it.
