Real Love Prevails Raymond Clarke was one of Dayton's most prized athletes, and he excelled academically as well. Sadly, Raymond was also abused. His mother walked out on his father when Raymond was two, and Malcolm did everything in his power to make sure Raymond was punished for that. A few days after his graduation, while Malcolm went to the store, Raymond packed his bags, called a cab, and never looked back. Because Raymond had spent his entire life being abused by his father and trying to remember his absent mother, love was something that he lacked. When Raymond found love in college, it appeared that he had put his past behind him in order to move on. Unfortunately after a tragic accident, Raymond turned into the man that he had feared for so long. I was excited for Raymond when he fell in love with Brenda and anticipated reading the story of their love together. Brenda helped Raymond recover from the accident, but instead of appreciating her it seemed as though he almost resented her for being there. It was heart wrenching to read how Raymond basically became a recluse just to run away from what he desired most in life. It was also touching to watch Raymond and his father's relationship improve over the years, so much so that Raymond ended up living back at home. The love story that I so eagerly anticipated did come to pass and Brenda and Raymond reunited many years later. Although I was angry with Raymond for being so stubborn, this is exactly the type of love story I like to read. Happily ever after gets me every time.
I bought this book as soon as it came out. I fell in love with both Raymond and Brenda. Didn't care for Raymond's father. I almost hated him at the start of the book, but Denise did a great job of bringing him full circle. I wonder how many people will read Love Pour Over Me and want to redo a bad relationship they have with a parent. This book does an excellent job at tackling love from so many angles. I loved the ending, just wished it had happened sooner. I enjoyed Love Pour Over Me from start to finish. Christy
