I love this cook book. Tried out a few recipes and they were great. I let my customers and employees taste some of the food and everyone loved it. Some of my favorites as of right now are the Seafood Quiche, Tiramisu (this is a true Italian recipe) and Teriyaki Chicken. Of course the favorites will probably change when I try more of the recipes in this book. I also really like the volume and weight conversions toward the end of the book. I recommend this book to anyone who likes to make some quick cook- ahead meals which can be frozen or served the next day. Make-Ahead-Meals For Busy Moms will be one cookbook that I will be using often.

I love to eat. I barely like to cook, and then only if it's quick, easy and the fewer ingredients the better. I was somewhat skeptical about this cookbook because so many claim to be for busy cooks but are full of complicated directions and ingredients that I never buy. This one though, is exactly what it says. It has ingredients that you probably always have sitting in your fridge and pantry. and they are easy to prepare. Some can even be frozen. The recipes are in sections: Appetizers Breakfast and Brunch Dessert Main Dishes Side Dishes Soup At the back of the book is a Measurement Equivalents section that has Volume Conversions and Weight Conversions. There is also a Recipe Index that is very helpful when looking for a particular type of recipe. If you get tired of making the same things over and over, this cookbook will solve that problem. It's full of recipes I wouldn't normally make because the recipes I've seen before were to complicated and had to many ingredients. The recipes in this book are simple, quick and delicious. I wish I'd had this cookbook many years ago. Jane Doiron has created a cookbook masterpiece!

Make Ahead Meals for Busy Moms has over 200 pages of delicious and easy make ahead meals, desserts and more. I've gone through this cookbook and tried a couple of the recipes. First of all, I love that you can make these meals ahead of time! It really does save time to prepare meals before you are actually planning on cooking them, especially days when there just doesn't seem to be enough time. Trust me, those days are plenty around here! There are even dessert recipes in here, one of which I will definitely be using come Christmas time since I like to bake for everyone! So not only are these meals convenient to make, they taste good! Some of my favorites are Italian Sub Spiral Wraps, Granola Bars, Meatballs and Gravy in the Crock-Pot and of course the Christmas Bark I'll be making for the holidays! There are so many wonderful and easy recipes, you'll surely be able to please the whole family.

Make-Ahead Meals for Busy Moms By Jane Doiron Are you tired of eating out at all those fast food joints? Well, Jane Doiron, wants to help you learn how to have home cooked meals that are better for our families, without all that stress and fuss. As soon as I received, Make-Ahead Meals for Busy Moms, I flipped through the cookbook and found a wonderful and easy-to-prepare recipe using blueberries. We have a blueberry bush in our backyard and I froze 2 quarts this summer. I couldn't wait to test a dessert recipe listed on page 59 for Blueberry Squares. My thirteen year old daughter, Tara, helped me get everything together. She even helped with the baking. Since the blueberries were frozen, Jane recommended waiting thirty minutes for them to thaw, that gave us ample time to get everything together and ready for this review. I took pictures to document the recipe. I hope you enjoy them. Speaking of pictures, you won't find any inside Jane's new cookbook, but that doesn't take away the beauty of her cookbook. I think it is a plus that the text is large enough that I did not need to wear my reading glasses. You will find "help tips" in the front of her book. There are tips on labeling, freezing, preparing food a day ahead and much more. Many of her tips were very helpful.

If you have kids, or a job or even just a life you are most likely a busy Mom! When you are on the run and don't know what to make for dinner, this is a great cookbook with simple yet satisfying meals to prepare that your kids will be begging for seconds. We also love that it has conversion charts in the back of the book for those days you just can't think straight with kids screaming in the background! So many delicious recipes to make for quick meals or a treat to take to the new neighbors moving in. We have loved all the recipes we have tried in the book so far... to name just a few we made her delicious Chicken Cordon Blue and chocolaty melt in your mouth fudge! I am so not a cook, and my presentation is far from spectacular but all that matters is that it tasted fabulous...right!The kids love to be in the Kitchen whenever I am cooking, and love to help. They had fun making the Fudge with me..(their request) and watching it transform from a sugar & marshmallow mixture to some sweet tooth goodness! Its great when you can find a good recipe like this one you aren't afraid to share with your friends & neighbors...and it will never go to waste! We had it gone by the next day! A great cook book to have on hand, and I love that it doesn't have lots of unusual ingredients that I don't keep on hand, or can not find in our small town, definitely a great buy!

There are so many days when you just don't feel like preparing a meal for your family so when I reviewed this cookbook I fell in love with it! I could cook up a meal and freeze half of it for another meal. Or I could make up the meals ahead of time and freeze them. The recipes are easy to read and the ingredients are common everyday items. The meals are ones that will satisfy any finicky family member and they are simple, not complex like some cookbooks. This book has many yummy recipes for meals including casseroles, chicken, beef, pastas, soups, cookies, desserts and appetizers. I have really enjoyed reviewing this book and tonight I am cooking up the mini meatloaves and baked manicotti. With our busy family schedule and teenagers sometimes we don't always get to eat together but this way everyone can enjoy a nice meal at their convenience. I recommend this cookbook for every home and it would make a great gift too.

I very much enjoyed reading Jane's book Make Ahead Meals For Busy Moms. She gives a lot of great information about food preparation and storage. Her recipes are easy to follow and use ingredients that most people keep on hand regularly. I enjoyed trying several of the recipes. My daughters were especially thrilled with the streusel topping on the Cinnamon Bread. The pictures on the cover were beautiful. I only wished there were more of them to enjoy. I look forward to using this book as a wonderful reference.

When Make-Ahead Meals for Busy Moms first arrived in the mail I sat down and marked all the recipes that I knew my family would like. I marked quiet a few pages! With everything from Bacon Tomato Mini Cups, Hawaiian Cole Slaw, Chicken Cannelloni and Lemonade Cake Jane has recipes that everyone in your house will love! I never would have thought I could make something like Chicken Piccata but with Jane's easy to follow directions I did, and it was yummy. I have also made the Honey Mustard Chicken Fingers which are a great family friendly meal. You can make a large batch and take out however many you want from the freezer and cook them. When my Moms group said we would be having a cookie swap over the holidays I was delighted to find a Snickerdoodle recipe in the Make-Ahead Meals for Busy Moms cookbook. I doubled the recipe and was able to freeze some of them to take to my parents for Christmas. This book is perfect for busy Moms (which is all of us!). I sure wish I had learned about this cookbook before baby number 2 was born, I would have had my freezer stocked with delicious meals. I can't wait to try out some more of the recipes and provide my family with great food that doesn't break the bank or take all day to make.

I love this cookbook! My problem isn't that I work or don't have enough time, its that I have an 18 month old (who is a job in and of herself) and a picky husband. I was excited to open up this cookbook and find some recipes that my husband will actually eat. We tried the Mini Cheesecakes and the Baked Manicotti, both of which we loved! This cookbook has such simple and yummy recipes for the cooking impaired like me. The writer Jane Doiron also includes tips on things that you can do ahead of time or even the day before. One of the suggestions was to cut all the vegetables and to combine different ingredients them put them in the fridge. I also love that she includes ways on how to freeze and reheat the meal, which is perfect for us because we don't eat very much so we aren't wasting any food.

I was asked to review this book for my food blog "Mommy? I'm Hungry!", and of course I said yes! Who doesn't want to be ahead of dinner plans? I decided to make Jane Doiron's Pear Bread, Chive and Onion Potato Casserole and Teriyaki Chicken. They were all easy to prepare ahead of time and tasted fantastic! I give Make Ahead Meals For Busy Moms 4 stars because I wish there were more photos to go with the recipes.

I received a copy of the cookbook, Make-Ahead Meals for Busy Moms for review. I already own a large collection of cookbooks, but this one was set apart from the rest since it's focus was on how to save time in the kitchen and how to make a meal that you can prepare ahead of time and have some leftover to freeze for future meals. When I received the cookbook, I perused through the recipes to see which ones that my family would enjoy. I was impressed by the number of dessert recipes. These will be perfect for Christmas baking. I have already bought the ingredients to make the Peanut Butter Fudge- yum! My boyfriend, John, is a big eater and loves a home cooked meal. I have to admit that I haven't been cooking that much for him lately. The main reason is that my kitchen is in a state of demolition and is completely gutted! I was pleased to see that there were a number of recipes for main dishes that I could whip up without making a special trip to the grocery store. I really appreciated the author's use of ingredients that were handy around the house. I live in a small town in Nova Scotia where it is impossible to find specialty items. Of course I had to try out a recipe to be able to review the book, so I choose Taco Pie. I liked that it was simple to make and could be made ahead if I was short for time. I made it all at once and it tasted phenomenal!! It has a bottom layer of ground beef seasoned with taco mix and is topped with cornbread. It was soooooo good and I couldn't believe I actually made something that tasted that mouthwatering. I am not the best cook and have ruined many a pot in my time! John really enjoyed it too and said it was one of the better dishes that I have made. We will definitely be having it again! I can only make two critiques about this book. One is that I wish they had pictures so I could see what the dish is supposed to look like. Number two is that I wish there were more recipes with hamburger in it. We have lots of hamburger in our freezer and I am trying to think of creative ways to use it up. There's a Sloppy Joe recipe that we are trying tonight. I highly recommend Make-Ahead Meals for Busy Moms and I can't wait to try out more recipes. When you get the book, make sure you try the Taco Pie and let me know your thoughts!!

From the moment I heard about this cookbook, I knew I wanted to add it to my collection. As the mom of four school-aged children involved in various activities, I completely understand how hard it is to get a meal on the table when you are busy playing taxi driver, running your kids here and there. Moms today do not have time to spend hours in the kitchen preparing a home-cooked meal each day. This is definitely a cookbook for all of us busy moms who need a few more hours in the day to get everything done. What I really liked about this cookbook was that these were recipes the whole family would enjoy. Two of my four children are extremely picky. Give them anything that is unidentifiable or looks too fancy, and they won't touch it. So I appreciate that all of the recipes were kid-friendly and featured ingredients that are commonly found in the grocery store. Busy moms will appreciate the fact that all of these recipes are simple to prepare, with ingredients they probably already have in their home. I give it 2 thumbs up. This is a cookbook that is going to see a lot of use in my house.

I love cooking! Sometimes though, my life starts to take over and making dinner can be pushed down the list of "things to do." I'm not even a mom! I am just a working wife. At this point, I don't understand how moms do what they do. Whether you are a mom or not, being a woman can get hectic! Thanks to Jane Doiron all of that can come to an end! Jane wrote this cookbook to help busy women provide delicious homemade meals despite a busy schedule! Make-Ahead Meals For Busy Moms is designed to help you prepare for the busy times. These make-ahead meals can be frozen ahead, assembled ahead, or cooked ahead and reheated! These recipes will help the holidays or a dinner party not seem so draining. Save time and still eat deliciously! This week I had one free night. The rest of the week I would not be home at dinner time but I wanted my husband to still eat well. I gave him the cookbook and let him pick out what he will eat. Then I spent a few hours and prepared TONS of food with the help of Make-Ahead Meals for Busy Moms. Here is this week's menu: Teriyaki Chicken I stuck it in a ziplock bag and put it in the fridge. I will cook it after it marinates. I also had the option of freezing it for up to 3 months! I think what I will end up doing it is cooking it and sticking it in the fridge. Then my husband can warm it up when he is ready. Beef Stew YUM! This is going to be good! The first thing my husband said when he walked in was "OOO! Something smells GOOD!" This stew can be frozen in containers for up to 3 months! Chicken Parmesan Normally for this recipe you would prepare the bread mixture before hand and then cook right before eating. I don't think my husband would take the time to cook it so he will get to warm it up and throw it over precooked noodles for dinner! Baked Chicken Chimichangas These were quick and easy! The guts of these can be prepped ahead of time and frozen for up to 3 months. I baked mine and then my hubby can just warm them up. Honestly this will feed my husband for way more than a week but that is why this cookbook is so great! I can make it and FREEZE it. There are more recipes then just dinner entrees and soups. There are appetizers (dips, pizza bits, stuffed mushrooms, etc), breakfast and brunch (breads, muffins, quiche, etc), desserts (cakes, cookies, bars, pie, fudge, etc), and side dishes (casseroles, salads, veggies, etc). This is a PERFECT cookbook for busy women of all kinds!

Being a busy single mom, this cookbook was a Godsend! By the time I get home after picking my daughter up from school it is already 6:00! This cookbook has allowed me to make meals ahead of time and they still taste great after warming them up! The recipes in this book are a wide variety and there is something for everyone! I'm not a Mushroom or Pumpkin person, so those recipes to me were not desireable, however, friends that I've mentioned them too who loves these asked me to send them the recipes. Said that they were a hit with their family! The Honey Mustard Chicken Fingers were a big hit with my daughter! This book is definitely a must have for your cookbook collection!

So far I've tried out the recipe for the mini cheesecakes and the Chicken Cannelloni. DELICIOUS!!! Both items were fantastic even after being frozen and reheated. They definitely had dinner on the table earlier at my house and prevented me from resorting to something unhealthy like DRIVE-THRU!

Title: Make-Ahead Meals For Busy Moms Author: Jane Doiron ISBN: 978-1-4327-2086-5 Publisher: Outskirts Press, Inc. List Price: $17.95 Make-Ahead Meals For Busy Moms is a short, but concise cookbook of several recipes that can be prepared in advance. These make-ahead meals are truly a blessing and time saver for busy mothers. As a new mother myself, I found it very helpful as I made some of these meals. I work part-time, so preparing meals in advance and freeing up some time is definitely a tremendous help. The recipes cover everything...appetizers, breakfast and brunch, main dishes, sides dishes, desserts and even soups. Also included is a chapter of helpful tips as well as measurement equivalents. The recipes are truly delicious and very easy to follow. The ingredients are not extensive either. It is a pleasure to prepare these meals, and they taste oh so good!! Jane Doiron, is an elementary school teacher and a mom of two boys herself. Her years of experience raising her boys and experimenting with different recipes and advanced meal prepping led her to write this helpful little cookbook to assist other busy mothers as well. My favorite was the Chicken Marsala with a Twist; and for dessert - Brown Cookies and Tiramisu. Hope you enjoy Jane Doiron's recipes as much as I have. Preparing make-ahead meals frees up my time on very busy days, and definitely has had an impact on my life. These recipes allow my day to run a little smoother. I have tried 5 of the recipes from this book so far: mini meatloves, calzones, chicken strogenoff, cheesy ham/pea pasta and one more that I can't remember, but they are all delicious. My freezer is currently stocked with meals that I can heat up in minutes...such a time savers!!!

Make Ahead Meals For Busy Moms has been classified as "The new approach to meal planning that will simplify your life," and I have to agree with that. Ms. Doiron's goal was to put forth a book that would help make meal times easier and quicker and she has done just that. The book is filled with tips and recipes that are based on the idea of preparing ingredients or the entire meal ahead of time and then being able to quickly pop it in the oven when you are ready to eat. The book contains 140 recipes that span every aspect of a meal to include appetizers, breakfast and brunch, main dishes, side dishes, soup, and desserts. The food ranges from traditional quick meals like sloppy joes to more elaborate recipes such as stuffed cornish hens and tiramisu. The book is easy to read and the recipes are diverse to offer something for everyone. I particularly like the tips that Ms. Doiron has at the beginning of each recipe. These comments add a little special touch as she relays a personal note that helps add individuality to each recipe. Although I do not have children, I have an hour commute to and from work each day and this cookbook is the perfect addition to my life. Over the past few weeks, I have used Ms. Doiron's method and recipes and have found that I do in fact have more time when I get home each night, I have stopped using the drive thru as often, and realized that I can have a large variety of delicious meals with very little effort throughout the work week. I can't choose just one recipe that I have found to be my favorite as there are many that I love. However, the breakfast burritos have been the best addition to my daily routine. I can prepare these on the weekends and grab one out of the freezer each morning to quickly pop in the microwave and eat on the way to work. I urge anyone looking for a new cookbook to check this one out, I can guarantee you won't be disappointed. You can also check out the website for the book at for additional information and a great newsletter.

I have wrote about my barely there cooking skills, but with money being tight now especially with the holidays coming up, I am trying to cook more. My problem though is with two kids who are the most active in the afternoon; it is hard to prepare a nice dinner. So dinnertime for us is usually me piecing together a meal as my husband walks through the door or having him pick something up. We also have about the same 10 meals constantly, so we definitely need a change in our meal selection. Well thanks to the book "Make-Ahead Meals For Busy Moms" by Jane Doiron, dinnertime has come to be something that I no longer dread. In Jane's book she breaks it down in to Appetizers, Breakfast & Brunch, Dessert, Main Dishes, Side Dishes, and Soup. She also includes a Helpful Tips and Measurement Equivalents section. The book even includes a recipe index so you can quickly find your favorites. What I love about Make-Ahead Meals is that all the recipes include instructions to make the meals a day ahead and freeze if possible. Her recipes are all easy and use normal ingredients. By normal ingredients I mean some of the items I actually have. I hate when recipes call for ingredients that I don't even know what they are, let alone where to find them! I am super impressed with the recipe selection too in the book. As a picky eater, I am not usually open to trying new things, and this book contains so many meal ideas that I would actually eat. I haven't yet made a meal ahead, but I have made a few for dinner (yes I found the time) and our favorite is her Chicken and Spinach Stuffed Shells recipe. I love the idea though of making meals ahead to save time and money. The author also words it best by saying "Imagine opening your freezer to pick our a family favorite appetizer, main dish or dessert, and all you have to do is thaw and heat it!" The only drawback to the book is there are no pictures, which I usually rely on, but the quality of the recipes makes up for it! Overall, this book is a new favorite of mine and I highly recommend checking it out. Oh and did I mention the author is of course a mom who also leads a busy life! It would also make a great gift for Christmas! Disclosure: I was given this book to review but the review is 100% my opinion. You can read more reviews (and enter giveaways) at

I found Make-Ahead Meals for Busy Moms full of easy to prepare and kid-friendly dishes. I tested the Chicken Stroganoff recipe which was easy to follow, tasty, and well received! The baking/dessert section is another rich resource with recipes for Coffee Cake with Apple Pie Filling, Cranberry Lemon Cake, Lemonade Cake, Cherry Bars and Tiramisu. I'd recommend this cook book to someone looking for straightforward and kid friendly recipes. Publisher: Outskirts Press (August 17, 2009), 229 pages. I have used many different make ahead cookbooks. I think this one would be great for someone who is just getting into this kind of cooking because the variety of recipes gives you a good idea about the types of foods that will hold up well in the freezer or overnight in the fridge. I did find some new-to-me recipes that my husband and I enjoyed including the chicken meatballs/burgers, the chicken parmesan, and the panko breaded pork medallions (our favorite of the bunch). The recipes are quick to put together and require relatively few ingredients. Additionally, the ingredients are ones you would likely have in your pantry/fridge regularly. Also, as a Weight Watchers follower, it was easy for me to substitute certain ingredients to lighten up the recipes even more, if I wanted to.
