About the Author

Dr Steven Segal is a Senior Lecturer in Management at the Macquarie Graduate School of Management where he has been teaching and researching since 1999. Prior to this he was a Lecturer in the Department of Education, the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa. He was awarded his PhD from 'Wits' University in 1997. Over 30 years of teaching and research, his focus has been on the importance of existential philosophical experiences in professional development. Along with a number of articles, he has published two books, one of which was translated into Mandarin. Together with Dr Claire Jankelson, he developed a group research supervision process. Called the hermeneutic circle, it enables new researchers to develop their research practices. By focusing on the roller coaster ride of the lived experience of research, it enables PhD researchers and early career researchers to develop their own voices as researchers.
