Mindful Intelligence: and the Making of You

In the introduction, meet Delores, the elderly lady who gave the author a hard time in the 90's. Her lack of self-awareness inspired this book.

Mindful Intelligence: and the Making of You has one main goal: to convince you that you could know much more about your own thoughts, feelings, and actions. With mindful intelligence and illustrative cartoons, learn to work with thoughts and emotions, "in the moment" during everyday actions and reactions.

Part One of this book illuminates the wonders of Mindfulness and how they relate to "the making of you." Part Two shows how to work with over fifty attitudes and actions/reactions, each with a two page spread, with illustrative cartoon on the left, and description with practices on the right. The 52 topics help you think about how to evolve both inwardly (inner self) and outwardly (in relationships/actions). Cartoons are illustrated by the author to show the most important thing she learned about each topic, during 25 years of mindful practice.

You may also choose an attitude or reaction to work on, and use more suggested practices in the back of the book. This book is a companion to the 'Mindful on the Move' app that goes further into the topics, and how they can be worked with during everyday life. Go to mindfulintelligence.net, for details.

Mindfulness helps you build a strong sense of self by encouraging you to develop thoughts, feelings, and actions from the inside-out (proactive), instead of the outside-in (reactive). It reminds you to keep an eye on the medium your life is being filtered through: you. Ultimately, mindful intelligence helps you fully appreciate life while noticing how the self interacts with, and creates that life.

About the Author

Tracy Rowan has been a Counsellor since 2006, and is also an Acupuncturist. Teaching mindfulness is an integral part of her practice because the reality of the self, and what's important in life, becomes clear with mindful attention. Tracy has practiced mindfulness for 25 years. She's been interested in people's ability to self-reflect since working at a Retirement Home as a teenager, where it became clear that many people reach the end of life without having become fully acquainted with themselves.
